The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of isokinetic training on muscle strength and gymnastic performance when added to traditional gymnastic training on handspring vault in preadolescent female gymnasts. Twenty female gymnasts with a mean age of 10.50 ± 1.19 years, height 125.50 ± 4.52cm, and body mass 27.30 ± 2.58 kg volunteered to participate in this study. A Cybex II Isokinetic dynamometer was used to measure the peak torque of the knee joint in extension at angular velocities of 60°/sec and 300°/ sec. A Casio EX-F1 (Tokyo, Japan) high speed video camera was placed perpendicular to the optical axis of springboard and vaulting horse. The subjects participated in 10-weeks training for three non-consecutive days per week, 2 hours per day, and separated into two equal groups. The experimental group (EG) followed a specialized training program (technical preparation and muscle strength via Cybex II), whereas the control group (CG) followed the traditional training program (technical preparation and muscle strength). Results showed no significant interaction was found for gymnastic score; however, a significant main effect was found for the time. No significant interaction effect among the three independent variables (group, time, side) was found for the knee extension at 60°/sec. However, the EG had a significantly higher mean values compared to the CG in the post-test. The interaction among the three independent variables with respect to the knee flexion at 300°/sec was not significant. However, the interaction between sides by group was significant. The 10-week isokinetic training added to the traditional training improved the knee strength, which consequently improved aspects of the vault, but did not affect other technical aspects of the handspring performance. Furthermore, results of our study support the claim that optimal performance is the result of a complex interaction of several factors.

This research main goal is to determine differences in maximum upper knee musculature torque moment of judo, football and handball players. For the needs of the research, 30 respondents were tested, of which 10 were football, 10 handball players and 10 judo athletes. Testing was conducted in Isokinetic Diagnostic Cabinet of the Provincial Institute for Sports and Sports Medicine in Novi Sad on the isokinetic dynamometer “Easytech prima DOC”. Significant differences were noted in the maximum torque moment of both legs extensors force (PTQR, PTQL) between judo athletes and football players, in favor of judo. Obtained results between observed groups can be attributed to the various sports branches training processes specificities, i.e. performing certain techniques in the sport itself
The investigation of isokinetic knee strength and muscle balance of taekwondo and wrestling athletes

Taekwondo and wrestling are two different Olympic combat sports that need lower extremity strength in different ways. During the training process that lasts for many years, the harmony in the leg muscles may be dissimilar. This study aims to determine (1) the knee extension and flexion strength values of elite taekwondo and wrestling athletes with similar physical and demographic characteristics and (2) the muscle balances formed after long-term taekwondo and wrestling training. The Role of Isoinertial Training in Improving Lower Limbs Strength

The role of isoinertial training in improving lower limbs strength is the aim of this study, because, although the place and the role of isoinertial training is still debated in specialized literature, in practice it is gaining more and more consideration. Methods. We used the CMJ test from Optojump as a measurement method, and the intensive training was carried out over a period of 12 weeks with Romanian sprinters (N=10). As a way of comparison, the test, retest method was used. During the training, modern devices were used to monitor the training of Romanian sprinters, by introducing a device that acts mainly on the eccentric strength. The data were processed using the SPSS program. Significant statistical differences were found in the value of the height of the vertical jump (CMJ), (Z= 3.51, p=0.00).

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of two training protocols on the isokinetic performance of athletes. The study was conducted in 38 athletes, (age 23.3 ± 3.6 years) participating in national level leagues of different sports, whose initial concentric hamstrings-to-quadriceps (conH/Q) torque ratio was lower than 0.5. During seasonal testing, an isokinetic measurement of knee extensors and flexors was performed at 60º/s. The athletes were divided into two groups. Nineteen athletes performed the isokinetic training protocol (IT) while the second group of 19 athletes followed the isotonic training protocol (RT). Both protocols lasted 4 weeks. After completing the training protocols, both groups underwent a final isokinetic testing. The isokinetic data revealed significant increases after training in measures of peak torque in both extensor and flexor muscle groups, in both the IT and RT study groups (p < 0.05). There were significant increases (p< 0.05) in conH/Q ratio in both groups after the implemented protocols, but greater in IT group. Consequently, applied IT protocol induced changes in working muscles, thereby restoring detected asymmetry to an acceptable balance more efficiently compared to RT protocol.
Specificity of Training on Computer-Obtained Isokinetic Measures

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of 7 weeks of isokinetic training on knee extension and flexion peak torque, torque acceleration energy, average power, and total work, and to observe the relationship between the increases in each of the isokinetic measures. Seventeen intercollegiate lacrosse players served as subjects and were assigned to an exercise or control group. lsokinetic training consisted of 3 sets of 25 repetitions at 270°/sec, 3 days per week for 7 weeks on an orthotron isokinetic dynamometer. All subjects were tested on a CybexdE isokinetic dynamometer at speeds of 60, 180, and 270 O/sec pre-and post-exercise or control condition. Results showed a significant training effect at 270°/sec for knee extension peak torque, torque acceleration energy, and average power, and knee flexion torque acceleration energy. High correlations were observed between the increases in peak torque, average power, and torque acceleration energy. These findings suggest that increases in average power, peak torque and instantaneous power may be expected as a result of isokinetic exercise training in healthy athletes.

The aim of the present study was to determine the relationship between vertical jump performance and the isokinetic strength of the knee extensors in professional soccer players at the end of the of the competition period, after the detraining period (before the initiation of the preparatory period) and after the completion of the preparatory period. Eighteen professional soccer players participated in the present study. The peak jumping height (of the squat and counter movement jumps on an Ergojump device) was used as indicator of vertical jump performance. The subjects also performed three submaximal and three maximal isokinetic efforts of the knee extensors at angular velocities of 60 and 180 • /s. Pearson product moment correlation analyses were conducted to determine the relationship between isokinetic strength and jumping parameters. The significance level was set at p < 0.05. The analysis indicated that jumping height was moderately correlated with the knee torques at the test velocities after the competition and preparatory period.
Analysis of isokinetic knee strength in soccer players in terms of selected parameters

Purpose: The aim of study is to analyse isokinetic knee strength in soccer players in terms of selected parameters. Methods: A total of 30 subjects, 15 soccer players and 15 controls, were included in the study. Isokinetic knee strength measurements at angular speeds of 60°sec-1, 180°sec-1 and 240°sec-1 and pro-agility tests were conducted on the subjects. A body analyser was used for height, weight and body mass indexes (BMI) values. The training ages of the subjects and the positions of the soccer player group were recorded on personal information forms. Results: When the agility parameters were compared between football and control groups, a statistical difference was found in favour of the soccer player group (p < 0.05). When the effects of body composition and isokinetic knee strength on agility were analysed, negative significant correlation was found between weight and agility, BMI and agility and 240° right knee extension strength and agility (p < 0.05).
