Development of Mass Rapid Transit System-Necessity of Lucknow City: A Review
IRJET, 2022
With rising traffic demand, the idea of coordinating the development of numerous modes of transportation, with public transit as the dominant option, has gained traction. Many big cities are working to establish three-dimensional urban rail transit and build a public transportation system using urban rail transit as the backbone. Medium volume traffic is preferred by many cities due to its low volume and flexibility in route choices. Based on the study and analysis of several intermediate-mass rapid transit systems, this article develops a complete decisionmaking model for the system using the DEA data envelopment analysis approach. The adaptability of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit (ART), and Rail Transit were analyzed and graded using Yongxiu County in Jiangxi province as a case study. Meanwhile, this article looked at the system selection for the mass transit system. The population grows geometrically over time as a result of the city's development as well as accompanying infrastructure expansions such as traffic and transportation. The mobility strength and mode have both been found to have enhanced. As a result, we saw the necessity for a transportation system that could move a large number of passengers in a short amount of time. The solution to this problem is the Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS). MRTS, which may be based on rail or bus, is popular across the world and must be a long-term transportation solution.
URBAN GROWTH AND MASS RAPID TRANSIT SYSTEM (MRTS): A STUDY OF DELHI METRO IN METRO CITY OF DELHI
The Indian Geographical Journal, 2017
Delhi is the second largest metropolitan city of India after Mumbai which is still growing. In any city smooth traffic movement is a prerequisite for its development but it is very difficult to achieve because of increase in population, commercial and industrial activities. Besides this high vehicle ownership and poor supporting public transport facilities cause serious problems of transport. Primary data related to user satisfaction is collected through a structured interview done in the area of Hauz Khas metro station in Delhi in June 2018. It is seen in the study that there is rapid growth of population in Delhi i.e. 5.64% average annual growth rate between 1981 and 2011 and the number of vehicles and road length also increased during this period but increase of length of road is not as much as the increase in the number of vehicles. Vehicles increased with about 49% annual average growth rates whereas length of road increased at about 4% annual average growth rate. It is found in the study that people are satisfied with the service as it provides a safe, secured and fast mode of transport.
State of Art Literature: Feasibility Study of Urban Mass Transit Facility for Dahod City
2019
In recent years, traffic congestion, traffic accidents, and deterioration of the environment because of growing population, increase in urbanization, and increase in car ownership have become serious problems in the urban cities of India. Urban transport crisis is faced by almost every Indian city, of all sizes. All cities face the ever-increasing problems of congestion, traffic accidents, air, and noise pollution despite investments in road development and infrastructure, and plans for land use and transport development. There is an increase in growth of personal vehicles and different forms of intermediate public transport provided by the informal sector which are struggling to meet the mobility demands of city residents. Thus, there is a need to provide a suitable city bus service system or urban mass transit system for towns which are growing at a rapid pace and are also a part of urban area. This urban mass transit system should be convenient, affordable and accessible. Therefo...
Metro Rail Transit System in Various Indian Cities-A Preliminary Study
2016
With the increase in vehicular trips by two wheelers and cars that results in congested traffic situations, increase in air polluting contents and lethal mishaps has turned into a noteworthy purpose of worry in metropolitan cities. Heavy or light capacity metro rail transit systems are being considered to put a stop to this pattern. In the most recent a quarter century, Chennai, Gurugram, Kolkata and Delhi have intensely put resources into rail based mass transit systems. This paper concentrates on the arguments and methodology used to legitimize the execution of these systems. This paper likewise evaluates the operation of Delhi metro in terms of effective travel time, maximum capacity and ease of access to the system there by reflecting commuter's experience.
Travel demand estimation through corridor level analysis for hyderabad metro rail
International Journal of Engineering & Technology, 2018
Urbanisation around the world is occurring in a rapid manner. Due to which peoples’ lives are in measurable situation like damaging the environment via increase in usage of private vehicles. In this line, transportation engineering plays a vital role in terms of sustainable development. Sustainability is the term used for balancing the three main components like social, environment and economic; not to trouble much of natural resources so as to preserve them for the future generations. To address the problems related to the transportation like traffic congestion, increase in pollution etc., Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) is the best alternative. To plan the MRTS in urban areas, it is necessary to estimate the travel demand, so as to fulfil the financial viability criteria.Corridor level analysis is performed to estimate the travel demand for Hyderabad Metro Rail, India. Multinomial Logit model (ULOGIT) is used to obtain the probability of MRT desired upon various modes. The result...
Potential of Personal Rapid Transit System to Meet the Urban Transport Deficit
INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL FOR TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORT ENGINEERING, 2016
There is a rapid increase in the use of personal modes of transport over public transport. In spite of tremendous efforts to promote public transport by the authorities; the personal mode users still prefer their own vehicles for transportation. The personal mode users resist the public transport for various reasons like comfort, waiting time, sense of privacy and access-egress trips. This study focuses on the access-egress trips and how Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) can be used to meet this deficit in the urban transportation system. PRT is an efficient rapid transit system which provides the last mile connectivity to the users with high level of reliability and comfort. It is a demand responsive system that ensures uninterrupted point to point journey between origin and destination. Dwarka, New Delhi, in India has been taken as the case study area to study how a PRT system effects the accessibility of public transport in an area. Primary and secondary data has been collected to understand the characteristics of the existing mass rapid transit system (Delhi Metro) and city bus services (DTC) in Dwarka. A PRT network of 18 km has been proposed in Dwarka which forms loops around the existing MRTS line and passes through the neighboring residential, commercial and institutional areas. Further, the impact of introducing this network on the accessibility levels in the area have been studied. The Public Transport Accessibility Level (PTAL) methodology developed by the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham has been adopted for calculation of Accessibility Index.
