2018

Abstract

The 21st century has witnessed, to date, a dramatic resurgence in the forces of nationalism, but nationalisms taking new forms, and engaging gender and sexuality in innovative and transformational ways. This book explores the shifting and complex relations between nation/alism, gender and sexuality, with a particular focus on contemporary case study analyses. Drawing on examples from Europe, North and South America, South and South-Eastern Asia, Oceania, and the Middle East, the book offers empirically grounded, theoretical informed explorations of the variable intersections of nation/alism, gender and sexuality. In their different ways, each case study serves to trouble conventional understandings, opening up new avenues for future empirical research and theoretical enquiry.
