Reflux esophagitis in children, the role of endoscopy (original) (raw)
Reflux esophagitis (RE) in children may not always correlate with symptoms or histology, highlighting the importance of upper endoscopy in its diagnosis. This multicentric study involving 150 patients sought to define the indications for endoscopy in cases of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). Results indicated that while endoscopic grades of inflammation often appeared mild or absent, severe histological findings were common, demonstrating the critical role of biopsies in detecting underlying disease. The study also evaluated serum markers related to acid secretion, suggesting that G-17 levels could aid in diagnosing GERD regardless of H. pylori status.
