Knowledge and Anxiety Level on Labour Process among Primigravida Mothers in a Selected Hospital, Kamrup (M), Guwahati, Assam: A Descriptive Study

Introduction: Many Indian women are unaware about the changes that occur in their body during pregnancy and labour, as a result many mothers suffer physiologically and psychologically, hence education is needed for mother especially to primigravida mothers. Aims and Objectives: The aim of the study is to assess the level of knowledge and level of anxiety on labour process among primigravida mothers who are attending antenatal OPD at a selected hospital. Methods and materials: A descriptive survey research design was used and purposive sampling technique was used for obtaining sample for the study. Study was undertaken on 100 sample primigravida mothers at Maternity and Child welfare Hospital of Guwahati, Assam. Results: The finding shows that majority i.e. 53% had inadequate knowledge, 44% had moderately adequate knowledge and only three (3%) had adequate knowledge on labour process, majority of the respondents i.e. 58% had moderate anxiety and 42% had severe anxiety. There was association between the knowledge level and selected demographic variables such as age, education, trimester of pregnancy and any prenatal counselling given. Also with anxiety and selected demographic variables such as education, occupation and any types of prenatal counseling attend. There was moderate negative correlation (-0.310) between knowledge and anxiety scores on labour process among primi gravida mothers. Conclusion: This study shows that primigravida mothers had lack of knowledge and moderate anxiety on labour process. Therefore health personnel need to conduct the education programmes to improve the level of understanding as to reduce the level of anxiety on labour process.

Level of Anxiety, Intensity of Labour Pain and duration of first stage of Labour in the Primigravida Mothers

Background: Labour is the most exciting and most painful situation for the women. A woman may feel happy and sad at one time. Happy feeling are due to the delivery of baby and sadness due to pain and prolong labour process. The purpose of this study was to assess the level of anxiety, intensity of labour pain and duration of first stage of labour in the primigravida mothers. Objective: to assess the level of anxiety, intensity of labour pain and duration of first stage of labour in the primigravida mothers. Methodology: Study was conducted in CLR, Nehru Hospital PGIMER Chandigarh, from 18th July to 8th September. Thirty nine primigravida mothers were selected by total enumeration sampling technique. The mother were introduced to the investigator and explained about the research project. The primigravida mothers was assessed for the level of anxiety and routine care was given. First assessment of labour pain was done at 3-4 cm. dilatation of cervix, second assessment done after 2 hours of first observation and third assessment was done after 2 hours of second observation in the subjects. Duration of active phase of first stage of labour was assessed by partograph from 3-4 cm. to full dilatation of cervix. Results: Average anxiety level should be in the range of 20-40 score of STAI Scale but Study result showed that there is high level of anxiety, in the range of 40-80. Intensity of labour pain measured by Numeric Pain Raiting scale (mild;1-3, moderate;4-6, and severe;7-10) intensity of labour pain was in the study subject mostly moderate (61.5%) to severe (33.3%) type of pain during first observation. and average duration of active phase of first stage of labour is 6 hours in primigravida mothers, study results showed 51.3% mothers had duration of 3-6 hours and 43.6% mothers had > 6 hours of duration of active phase of first stage of labour. Conclusion: Study concluded that high level of anxiety of primigravida mothers may increase the intensity of pain and also may increased the duration of labour. So nurses and other health personnel should give psychological support and explained the labour process to the primigravida mothers either before onset of labour or during antenatal.

Knowledge relationship of pregnant women Primigravida and completeness of ANC visit with anxiety levels of mothers facing childbirth

Routine pregnancy checkups are very important so that problems experienced by pregnant women can be found as early as possible and can be overcome, before they develop into a danger to both the mother and the baby. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between knowledge of primigravida pregnant women and the completeness of ANC visits with the level of maternal anxiety facing childbirth. The type of research used is a cross sectional study. The sample in this study were pregnant women in the third trimester who experienced anxiety during the fasting month as many as 59 people with purposive sampling technique. Based on the results of the chi-square analysis, p = 0.012 is smaller than = 0.05, which means Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Thus there is a relationship between knowledge and the level of maternal anxiety facing childbirth. Based on the results of the chi-square analysis, p = 0.024 is smaller than = 0.05, which means Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Thus, there is a relationship between the completeness of ANC visits and the level of maternal anxiety facing childbirth. It is hoped that they can improve services and skills in dealing with anxiety facing childbirth and midwives can take prompt 10185 and appropriate action in accordance with their standards and authority.

This research aimed to identify the correlation between Knowledge Level and Anxiety Facing Childbirth in Primiparous Mothers at Panembahan Senopati Hospital Bantul. This study was quantitative research with a descriptive-analytic design using the cross-sectional approach. The population in this research consisted of 145 primipara mothers, with purposive sampling of 59 respondents. The data were collected with a questionnaire and analyzed with the Spearman Rank Correlation Test. The respondents' knowledge level belonged to the 'good' category, 96.6%, while the anxiety level among the primipara mothers belonged to the 'moderate' category, 79.7%. The analysis of the correlation between the knowledge level and the anxiety level among Primipara mothers in Panembahan Senopati Hospital Bantul resulted in a p-value = 0.001 with a Rho-Spearman correlation value of-0,415. There was a moderate correlation between knowledge and anxiety levels among primipara mothers in Panembahan Senopati Hospital Bantul.
