Introduction to a study on the relationship between Josemaría Escrivá and the Real Patronato de Santa Isabel in Madrid: The following study is made up of three closely related parts: firstly, the ties between St. Josemaría Escrivá and the Real Patronato de Santa Isabel, during the years 1931 to 1945, initially as acting chaplain and later on, as rector and administrator; secondly, it presents a documented history of the Real Patronato, a religious and educational trust founded by Philip II; and finally, available sources are listed for further studies regarding the founder of Opus Dei and the Real Patronato de Santa Isabel.
Evolución histórica de la Biblioteca de la Catedral de Salamanca
The library of the Cathedral of Salamanca possessed an extraordinary collection, thanks to the donations it received from private individuals. This is the rea¬son why it was necessary to build a new storage facility to adequately host this legacy in a large room attached to the primitive Capilla de Santa Catalina. There it remained until the last third of the 16th century, coexisting with many other activities that took place in the same room, which probably led to a constant loss of manuscripts from the collection. The disappearance of the position of master of the library was concurrent with the move of the few books left in the collection to the rooms of the Cathedral’s archive. The new emplacement of the archive was built in the high cloister in the second half of the 18th century. In 1830 the donation of the canon Huebra stipulated that a new ca¬binet be built in the space contiguous to the historical archive. The donations of other canons during the 19th century complete the collection of ancient books that the Library of the Cathedral of Salamanca preserves nowadays.
Studia et Documenta, 2009
On February 14, 1943, Saint Josemaría Escrivá discovered the juridical formula that would permit priests to enter Opus Dei, officially forming the Priestly Society of the Holy Cross. Years before, during the Second Spanish Republic, he had established a weekly meeting with priests who shared the spirit of Opus Dei, in the hope that they would be united both in supernatural and apostolic ideals. In this essay, the authors present a short biography of those priests who participated in the reunions and explain the origins of the meetings in 1932, their evolution over three years and the reason why they ended in early 1935. This paper is based primarily on published documents, but also includes unpublished documentation to supply biographic details on the above-mentioned priests.
