ABSTRACT To better _derstand the multiphase hydrodynamics in flotation deinking processes, we have used gamma densitometry to measure local and global gas holdup in bubble columns with aqueous suspensions of recycled newsprint. Flow systems included air rising through stagnant suspensions and cocurrent flow of air and pulp. We examined suspensions of several consistencies, including pure water, with a variety of injected air flow rates. The effect of surfactant was also examined.
