Die filioque: Ekumeniese speelbal of reformatories teologiese noodsaaklikheid
HTS Teologiese Studies / Theological Studies, 1994
The filioque The current debate within the ecumenical movement about the filioque has its origin in the Greek Orthodox church’s demand that the Nicenco- Constantinopolitanum be accepted in its original form. Only if a universally acceptable symbol is found, can there be any hope of progress in the movement to unity. The choice put by the ecumenical movement is between unity and filioque. It is the contention in this article that this choice is a false one. From an overview of the most important historical aspects of the problem, the reader is confronted by the problem. This is followed by a discussion of the points of view of the orthodox church, the ecumenical movement and Protestant theology. This discussion shows the impasse which the choice between fdioque and unity creates. A discussion of the concept of models, as instrument within theological language, has as goal to show that this impasse can be solved. I f theological language uses models in its discussions, any talk about ...
“Here, leer ons bid.” Jesus se onderrig oor gebed volgens die Lukasevangelie
2007
Lord, teach us to pray." Jesus' teaching on prayer according to the Lukan gospel Prayer was a subject of great interest to the writer of Luke. In the third Gospel prayer features more largely than in the other Gospels. Two aspects are prominent -the example of Jesus' prayer life and his direct instruction on prayer. Although commentators had noted that Luke made many references to the subject little is said of the implications of this. In an attempt to fill this gap this article focusses on the latter of the above mentioned aspects by investigating Jesus' instruction on prayer. It is only Luke who gives us the extended teaching of Jesus on this subject, illustrated by parables and following the request of the disciples. het op gebed, naamlik de vomai 1 , dev hsi~2, i jnevw 3 , euvl gevw 4 en eujc aristvew 5 , kom ook in

A practical-theological reflection on coaching and equipping children for service as a way to emulating the attitude of Christ. The hypothesis for this research is that the youth is an inherent part of the church. The church, which includes the children, received spiritual gifts from God. The edification of the church is the main purpose in the utilisation of all the gifts. The church received a significant responsibility in equipping and convoying children to be obedient in their calling to be followers of Jesus Christ. Parents and children must use their gifts for their own diakonia. The word diakonia gives expression to the fact that diakonia must take place in accordance to the calling by God. In recent research the expression diakonia also received a more comprehensive meaning. The research field will be explored in four phases and, in doing so, try to come to grips with the current practical-theological situation. In phase one the authors tried to offer a descriptive reflectio...
HTS Teologiese Studies / Theological Studies, 2003
The world as likeness: A trajectory to find the middle term of “theology”In this article the different ways of bridging the gap between the concepts theos + logos in the word “theology” are investigated. This could either be done from above or from below. In order to conceive a workable definition of theology, both directions of departure are rather important. A meaningful way of doing so is to apply the concept of analogy. In the exposition of the article, this cue is followed from the classical Greek philosophers up to Barth with his unequivocal “no” to natural theology. The solution, however, is pursued along the line of the analogy of grace of Thomas Torrance. Against this backdrop, certain indispensable trends for our understanding of church in a postmodern society are designated, for example socio-cultural niches, identity-involvement dilemma, market orientation, public theology and service. Friedrich Mildenberger’s concept of basic God-talk (“einfache Gottesrede”) plays a dec...

The relationship between Christology and ethics in Colossians praxis for the postmodern believer and church In Colossians, there is a close relationship between Christology and ethics. This relationship provides answers to the many questions that face the postmodern believer and the church in the current secular world. Believers constantly battle to apply their faith in a practical way. The reason for this is that believers do not have a reference point from which to apply their faith in practice. The relationship between Christology and ethics in the letter to the Colossians presents such a reference point, namely the believers identity in Jesus Christ. This identity in Christ, and not nomalism, should determine all ethical decisions of the believer.

Leksikografiese behoeftevervulling
Lexikos, 2013
Africa has its own lexicographic needs and the fulfilment of these needs demands thorough planning and the employment of a sound and effective organisational theory. This paper focuses on a few priorities to meet the South African lexicographic needs. The contents of a dictionary as well as the presentation of the infonnation should be directed at a well-defined target user. Not only the linguistic needs of this target user but also his research skills should have an influence on the planning and compilation of any specific dictionary. Using a metalexicographic model this paper discusses different aspects of interest in determining priorities for the fulfilment of lexicographic needs. Lexicographers have to be familiar with components like dictionary use, dictionary criticism, the history of dictionaries and a general theory of lexicography. The importance of planning and a sound training is emphasised. Training should not only be aimed at lexicographers but also at dictionary users. It is easier to achieve the meeting of lexicographic needs in an environment where a well-established dictionary culture exists.

Is the Orthodoxy’s notion of the Fall inhibitory for the dialogue between theology and science? In this article it was argued that th...
Predikante opleiding: Roeping, keuring en legitimering

Training of Pastors: Calling, Testing and Ordination The profession of being a pastor is under pressure. The challenge for churches and seminaries is to rediscover what it means to be called, and more specifically to be called for full time ministry in a local church. Such a calling needs to be secularised in order to be recovered. In this process the job of the called one needs to be determined, at least to a larger extent, by the congregation or parish. The point in question here is the fact that such functions as pastors are being given by God for equipping the body (Eph 4:7-16). When this is a reality, testing for such a call asks for a commitment to what the call, training for the profession and retaining status imply. Such testing leads to new freedom and the discovery of the complex nature of ministry on the one hand, and giftedness for specific ministries on the other. While further research is needed, the intermediate questions are whether there are seminaries that are ...

Spatial and Temporal Lexicographic Deictic Anchoring. In this contribution attention is given to deixis as it is known in the field of semantics. The transfer of deixis to lexicography is discussed and the concept of lexicographic deictic anchoring is brought to the fore. It is shown how this anchoring can be executed in different ways. Lexicographers need to decide how to employ this procedure in a specific dictionary. Different types of text segments can be used to enable deictic anchoring. These segments that include items, item symbols and item parts are briefly discussed. The main focus of this article is on spatial and temporal lexicographic deictic anchoring. Different deictic markers and anchoring procedures are discussed. In this regard it is shown that dictionaries do not only employ single items but also item complexes and that these item complexes can have a uniform or a hybrid format. It is suggested that successful deictic anchoring often demands that dictionaries shou...

The securitisation of South African politics - a trend analysis The South Afr...
