Texila International Journal of Public Health, 2023

HIV remains a significant global public health challenge, having caused the loss of 40.1 million lives to date, with ongoing transmission in all countries worldwide (World Health Organization, 2023). By the end of 2021, there were approximately 38.4 million people living with HIV/AIDS (World Health Organization, 2023). HIV/AIDS education targeted at young individuals plays a crucial role in ending the AIDS epidemic on a global scale. In Malaysia, by the end of 2021, an estimated 81,942 people were living with HIV (PLHIV) (Ministry of Health, 2022). 600 Penang students between the ages of 15 and 17 participated in the study, which had three sessions total-a pre-test, an intervention, and a post-test. The findings were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 software. The results revealed a positive change in the respondents' knowledge following the implementation of the intervention process. This study demonstrates that early health education can effectively reduce the risk behaviors associated with HIV/AIDS among young adolescents. The aim is to ensure that they lead a better quality of life and maintain their overall well-being.

A randomised controlled trial of peer-adult-led intervention on improvement of knowledge, attitudes and behaviour of university students regarding HIV/AIDS in Malaysia

Singapore medical journal, 2009

The aim of this study was to investigate the knowledge, attitudes and behaviour of university students regarding acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). A randomised controlled trial of 530 university students was done using peer-adult facilitators. Participants completed a questionnaire before and after the intervention, which was a four-hour group session. A prevention programme was developed by local experts, health educators and peer facilitators. The peer-adult-led programme was designed to provide a conceptual model of HIV risk reduction through information, motivational and behavioural skills, a harm reduction module and health promotion theme. The main outcome measured was the level of knowledge, attitudes and behaviour scores. The results suggest that relative to the control group, participants in the intervention group had higher levels of knowledge (30.37 vs. 25.40; p-value is 0.001) and a better attitude (12.27 vs. 10.84; p-v...

The mean(SD) post-test (12.78[0.93]) HIV/AIDS knowledge score was significantly higher than pre-test (8.98[2.71]) score (p<0.001). The perceptions were restrictive and solutions perceived were extreme. Linkage between HIV and immoral conduct was not highly perceived by the students. P3.381 Knowledge and Attitude Towards HIV/AIDS Among Post-Secondary School Malaysian Urban Youths

Sexually Transmitted Infections, 2013

The study was conducted in 2004 and repeated in 2011 to compare the contact-tracing success rate of the partner notification services routinely provided by the community-based youth health centres in Uppsala County, Sweden. Objective The study had two goals, (i) to compare the number of sexual partners routinely reported by each diagnosed index case with CT and the success rate in tracing and testing these partners for CT infection in 2004 and 2011 (ii) To compare the notification practises in reporting the number of cases of unsuccessful contact tracing to the CMO in 2004 and 2011. Successful contact-tracing is defined as the confirmed attendance of a sexual contact within 12 months of the contact with the index case. Results The number of CT cases diagnosed by the youth health centres during 2004 was 463 (299 females/164 males) and 529 (339/190) during 2011. The females reported 660 male sexual contacts 2004 and 861 in 2011 and the males reported 386 female contacts in 2004 and 494 in 2011. Successful partner notification was achieved for 73% of all sexual contacts in 2004 but only 64% in 2011. 164 (74 females and 90 males) unsuccessful partner notifications were reported to the CMO in 2004 and the corresponding numbers for 2011 were 288 (105 females and 183 males). Conclusions Between 2004 and 2011 there has been an increase in the mean number of sexual contacts among young adults in Uppsala County. Successful partner notification was significantly reduced. When asymptomatic, genital CT infection spreads among sexually active young adults with multiple, unidentified sexual partners, appropriate methods of partner notification are not sufficient to achieve its aims at the population level. Novel strategies are needed.

Open Journal of Nursing, 2020

Introduction: Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) are among the most complex health problems of the 21 st century. Young people aged 15-24 years are the HIV/AIDS at risk group. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational interventional program on knowledge on HIV/AIDS among adolescent students of higher secondary school in Kathmandu, Nepal. Methods: The study was the pre test-post test experimental study design with an experimental and a control group conducted in the randomly selected eighteen higher secondary schools. The intervention, educational package on HIV/AIDS, was provided to all grade twelve students in the intervention group from 1st September, 2017 to 2nd January, 2018. In total, 321 from the intervention group, and 283 from the control enrolled at baseline and over 95% of these were followed up at posttest. The data were collected from self-administered questionnaires in English version and analyzed by using independence t-test and paired t-test. Results: Overall pretest knowledge of both intervention and control groups was comparable with 27.58 ± 4.05 and 28.53 ± 3.77 mean ± standard deviation respectively. But statistical analysis showed significant higher knowledge (P = 0.03) among control group. After the educational intervention, the mean knowledge score of control group increased by only 0.47, whereas the same score increased by 11.57 and reached 39.15 ± 3.7 in post-test for intervention group. The difference in post-test score was statistically highly significant (P < 0.001). The finding indicates that the educational intervention was effective in changing the HIV/AIDS knowledge How to cite this paper:

This study aimed to determine the determinants of knowledge of SMA 6 Bandar Lampung students about HIV/AIDS. Methods: An observational study with a cross-sectional design is the approach that this research method takes. Students enrolled in the 12th grade at SMA Negeri 6 Bandar Lampung made up both the population and the sample for this study. Results: According to the findings of this study, the majority of students are female (62.7 %), with the majority also being over the age of 17 (97.1 %), and 89.2 % being Muslim. Only 24.5 % of respondents get their health information from health workers, despite the fact that 81.4 % of students are aware of HIV/AIDS.
