Teacher Educators Attitude Towards Information And Communication Technology Competencies And Usage: An Empirical Study

The present study is a kind of survey about teacher educators competencies and their Information and communication technology usage in their courses. In order to better facilitate professional development for teacher educators and better prepare tomorrow's teacher educators it is necessary to effectively and successfully integrate ICTs in their classrooms and therefore it has become necessary to examine teacher educators attitude towards ICT competencies and their uses of ICT in their respective courses being taught. The objectives of the present study ids to find out whether there is any significant difference in the attitude between male and female, graduate and post graduate, trained and untrained, rural and urban teacher educators towards information and communication technology competencies and its usage. A random sampling method was taken and a sample of hundred teacher educators was taken from four different teacher training colleges of Aligarh district. A self-constructed questionnaire was developed by the researcher and was used for the collection of data. The results of the findings indicate that most of the teacher educators expressed positive attitude about integration of ICT into teacher education programs as well as a positive and healthy attitude towards ICT competencies and its usage. The findings of the results revealed that the attitude of the teacher educators towards competency and usage in ICT is not affected by their gender, qualification and ICT training but it is affected by locality. The teacher educators who are belonging to rural and urban areas have been found to have significant difference in their attitude towards ICT competency and usage. This is probably one of the main reasons for the inadequate academic, professional and pedagogic preparation and insufficient level of knowledge and skills of the faculty. The teacher educators therefore need to acquire new knowledge and reliable and authentic information about the use and implementation of ICTs in the teaching leanring process.

Rapid communication plus increased access to ICTs in the schools, home, at work, and in educational establishment, could mean that learning becomes a truly lifelong activity-an activity in which the pace of technological change forces constant evaluation of teaching process itself. Daniels (2007) noted that ICTs have become within a short time, one of the basic building blocks of modern society. Agreeing with that, Pernia (2008) defined Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as technologies used to communicate in order to create, manage and distribute information which includes computers, the internet, telephone, television, radio and audio-visual equipment.

Twenty first century is the century of technology; and it is being used in every sphere of life including education. For spreading technological knowledge many developed countries of the world have introduced technology in their whole educational system and those countries are now reaping the fruits of technology integration. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the competencies and frequencies of use of MS-Office and Internet, in teaching learning process by the prospective teachers and Teacher Educators, of GECEs in Sindh Pakistan. The research design was descriptive survey. Data was collected through closed-ended questionnaires from teacher educators and prospective teachers. Data was analyzed through percentages. Findings of the study showed that teacher educators and prospective teachers had admitted that they had good knowledge of MS-Word and MS-PowerPoint, but use of MS-Word, MS-PowerPoint was not very frequent, MS-Access and MS-Excel were most negligible software, no one used them. However,, Internet 232 good infrastructure, and facilities. But the only deficiency was the proper use.

An analysis of Teacher Trainees’ Attitude towards ICT in Education and their Perception of Computer Attributes in Mizoram

Teacher training is an important activity as the result affects the quality of teaching. Quality teaching has the ability to change the whole nation in a positive way. With the advent of computers and allied technology, there is even more opportunity for teacher education to grow and improve. But in order to make use of this technology, teachers themselves have to be acquainted with and be able to deal with it. The present study was undertaken so as to find out the extent of teacher trainees' understanding of digital technology. For this, two teacher training institutes were selected, Aizawl and Sechhip DIETS to be exact. It was found that teacher trainees had a rather low competence towards technology. It was also found that those who had low competence also had a negative attitude towards technology.

Digital technology and teachers' competence for its application in the classroom

The subject of the research is focused on questioning teachers' attitudes in reference to using ICT competencies in the classroom, considering the gender, years of service and education, while the problem of the research concerns the question: What are the teachers' attitudes in reference to using ICT competencies in the classroom? Regarding to the previously defined subject and problem, the aim of this research is to question the attitudes of teachers-reflective practitioners in reference to using ICT competencies in the classroom considering the gender, years of service and the education. The teachers' attitudes in reference to using ICT competencies in the modern teaching, in the teaching practice research and for self-development were examined by using the Likert scale which consists of 31 items, especially constructed for the need of this research. The research included 100 primary school teachers with various years of service from the city of Nis (N=100). The results showed that there are no statistically significant differences in reference to the variables: gender, years of service and the education concerning the teachers' attitudes towards importance of using ICT competencies in the classroom. They are mostly considered to be insufficient. Thus, the respondents recognize the need and the importance of using ICT in preparation and teaching realization and they consider it as an important part of their professional development.

This paper aims to present perception of teacher on using ICT in classroom in context of Kailali District. For the purpose of the survey, ten teachers teaching in secondary level were selected and questionnaire was used to collecting data. The finding of the research shows that even though majority of the teachers are equipped with electronic gadgets like laptop and desktop computers and have access to the reliable internet both in school and at home, they cannot use ICT in their teaching because of lack of sufficient knowledge about web-based and game-based teaching tools and they have not received training related to ICT use in the classroom teaching.

The study sought to find out the teachers’ views in the use of ICT in curriculum implementation in Bindura urban District. In this study the descriptive survey design was used in this study. One hundred and ten teachers participated as research subjects. Questionnaires were administered to one hundred teachers and ten were interviewed .Data were qualitatively analysed. Analysis was made basing on the trends and patterns emerging from summarized data. The study revealed that teachers are well aware of the benefits of ICT in curriculum implementation. Teachers lacked relevant knowledge on how to use ICT in teaching and learning. The study also revealed that there is lack of ICT infrastructure in schools and teachers did not have access to computers. Perception towards Information and Communication Technology among the Higher School Teachers

The major objective of the study was to find out the level of perception towards information and communication technology among the high school teachers. The investigator has employed the survey method for this study. The investigator selected the questionnaire as the tool for the data collection. In this study, all the teachers teaching at the high school level at various schools irrespective of the nature of management located in the Tuticorin district were taken as the population for the study. For the study, a sample of 250 teachers was selected using random sampling techniques. Their findings of the study are there is no significant difference in the perception towards ICT of male and female students.
