Providing high quality of products not covered by defective products is an important part of the supply chain between the manufacturer of the automotive parts and the final assembly company. The paper presents the results of research related to determining the effectiveness of quality control in a company producing plastic components for automotive industry at separate levels. Upon detection of nonconforming products at his plant, recepient according to the contract asked the supplier to launch the Controlled Shipping Level 1 procedures. As a result of the lack of significant improvement, there was run in the supplier’s plant the Controlled Shipping Level 2 procedure realized on an outsourcing basis by specialized external company. If your suitcase is accepted, it is scanned, and possibly physically inspected nevertheless. Now look at this container. This is a steel box that can be locked and that is virtually waterproof: it can float. The introduction of this piece of steel has led to a technological innovation that has reshaped the world of international trade. Part of it, anyway. The Overlooked Dependencies of Material Flows on Quality and Quality Assurance

The flow of materials is a major constituent of in-plant logistics and similar factors govern resource requirements and material flows. In particular, quality factors and the configuration of the quality assurance-the inspections' system. Nonetheless, no study considers the association between and the dependencies of material flows on quality levels and the configuration of the inspections' system. The configuration of the inspections' system affect the structure of the material flow network by adding nodes-inspection stations, to it and changing the paths, accordingly. In addition, the quality levels, the configuration of the inspections' system, and inspection error rates significantly affect the volumes of material flows. These effects are quantified, demonstrated and discussed in this study.

In the business era, when all the organizations are competing with each other on every aspect, it has become very important, not only to adapt with advanced technologies in manufacturing, material handling, sales and other Supply Chain processes, but also pay a huge amount of attention towards customer satisfaction. Two major factors that can bring a hike w.r.t customer satisfaction are cost and quality. This paper explores a specific dimension of improving quality of products and services that is Failure Analysis (FA). A failure inhibits a product to perform the function it was intended to do. Failure Analysis is a process of investigating such a failure. Basically, it analyses the failure modes by using optical, electrical, physical and chemical analysis techniques. Too often, jumping into statistical data analysis leads to flawed results and erroneous conclusions. Failure analysis is a key tool in answering those questions. This paper will cover the basics of FA and the process of carrying it out, and lastly will discuss about few case studies in detail and come up with a meta-analysis.
Managing quality decisions in supply chain

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop an optimization model to better allocate cost of quality (COQ) in the supply chain (SC). In addition, the paper provides a roadmap based on COQ that allocates limited given budget among the SC entities. Design/methodology/approach This paper presents a comprehensive SC model while introducing six different scenarios, where each scenario minimizes fixed costs and COQ of the SC. Findings The results showed that the highest portion of the COQ should be allocated at the retailer echelon while the lowest portion should be kept at the manufacturer echelon. The findings also presented that the retailer should always maintain the highest quality level (QL) compared to the manufacturer and supplier. Quality control of supplier defects in a precision industry: a case study approach
This research paper analyzes the quality performance of a supplier providing components AV3, AV4, and AV5 to the high-precision manufacturing industry. Defect analysis by category reveals common issues across the components, emphasising the need for stringent quality control measures. The defects analysis per period identifies patterns, such as higher rejections in the second quarter of 2020 and 2021, and a higher number of defects in AV5. Specific actions, including the 8D report, quality control reports, quality control plan, and report of improvement actions, have been requested from the supplier. Adherence to VDA 6.3 and IATF 16949 standards is recommended. By implementing these actions, the aim is to mitigate defects, improve component quality, and strengthen the supply chain. Emphasising data analysis and statistical process control enables proactive requests for action to assure the quality of components supplied.
Highly effective companies in supplier quality surveillance practices: a quantitative analysis

Results presented are part of a larger mixed-mode study on supplier quality practices focusing on the cross-analysis of interviews, focus groups, and a questionnaire, which collected actual data about timing, costs, practices, and non-conformances associated with purchase orders (POs) from Engineering Procure and Construct (EPC) projects for four material types considered relevant to projects built by EPC contractors based in the United States. The present discussion specifically focuses on the analysis of the non-parametric dataset obtained from the POs to investigate a subset of companies labelled as highly effective companies (HECs). This contribution is unique as it used a mixed-mode approach to collect data beyond construction sites and investigate the product/supplier side of construction processes to advance knowledge of how materials can be sent to construction project sites free of defects and rework and indicates practices that contribute to this goal. When compared to other companies in the dataset, HECs engage in more hours of observation in suppliers' facilities, communicate more often with suppliers, put more effort and time in the planning stages of the project, use more practices related to supplier quality surveillance and supplier quality management, and find non-conformances earlier in the project.

Purpose The paper concerns supply chains. It aims to identify the essential improvement actions that manufacturing companies expect their suppliers to take in the future rather than selection requirements already used in the assessment process. Within those improvement actions, the goal is to determine whether the size and management methods used in assessing companies affect these future expectations. Design/methodology/approach: Hypotheses were developed regarding the expectations of manufacturing companies and the factors influencing these expectations. Data collected from 118 companies from the Polish automotive, metal and chemical sectors were used to verify them. For this purpose, the U-Mann Whitney test was applied.
