Analysis on Emotional Intelligence Levels of Physical Education and Sports Students in Sports

The purpose of this descriptive study is to compare the emotional intelligence levels and demographic attributes of students enrolled in different departments of Balıkesir University School of Physical Education and Sports during the 2018-2019 academic year. The research population was composed of 865 students receiving education in different departments of School of Physical Education and Sports, while the sample is composed of randomly selected 304 students among this population. The study utilized "Emotional Intelligence Inventory in Sports" developed by Schutte et al. (1998), revised and adapted by Lane et al. (2009) for use in sports with Turkish reliability and validity performed by Adiloğulları and Görgülü (2015). α=0.927 was established as the reliability coefficient of the inventory. The Anova test, Kruskal Wallis test and Jonckheere-Terpstra test were used in data analysis. All analyses were performed with SPSS v17.0 (SPSS Science, Chicago, IL, USA). The study concluded emotional intelligence levels of the participants differ in the variable of age in the dimensions of using feelings, in the variable of department in the dimensions of evaluating one's own feelings and social skills, and finally a difference existed in the variable of age concerning life satisfaction. Moreover, no relation was ascertained between the emotional intelligence of the participants and their life satisfaction.

This study examines the mental abilities of the student athletes and examining their emotional intelligence levels. The sample comprised 213 student athletes studying in the Bartın University. The data was collected with the Ottowa Mental Skills Assessment Tool (OMSAT-3'), Schuette emotional intelligence scale and personal data form. In conclusion, a significant difference was found in favor of the males in the stress reactions variable according to the gender (p<0.05). It was also showed that there was a statistically significant difference in the goal setting, commitment, imagery, mental practice, and self-confidence sub-dimensions of mental skills assessment tool for monthly income level of the participants (p<0.05) but no statistical significance was found according to the gender between the total scores and sub-dimensions of emotional intelligence (p>0.05). Additionally, a significant high correlation was reached between the monthly income level with the sub-dimensions of emotional intelligence and total scores, and between the mental skills assessment sub-dimension of the emotional intelligence and total scores (p<0.05). Lastly, when the mental skills assessment tool increase, the emotional intelligence score averages of the student athletes also increase.

The primary aim of this study was to examine the attitudes of secondary school students towards physical education and sports and their emotional intelligence levels. The study was conducted with 360 students. Data were collected using a personal information form and a voluntary consent form. Emotional intelligence was assessed with a 60-item measurement tool developed by BarOn and adapted into Turkish by Köksal. Students' attitudes were measured using the 24-item "Physical Education and Sports Attitude Scale" developed by Demirhan and Altay. The data were analyzed with SPSS 25 program. Normality tests revealed that the data were normally distributed, so independent sample t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used. The significance level was set at 0.05. Analyses revealed significant differences in physical education and sport attitude scores and emotional intelligence scores based on gender and participation in sport activities. In addition, significant differences were observed in emotional intelligence scores depending on the educational level of the parents. However, no significant differences were found in physical education and sport attitude scores depending on these variables. The findings were discussed in the light of the literature and recommendations were made.

At present, knowledge of physical and cognitive aspects is essential in the sporting context. Faced with this situation, the control and knowledge of emotions has a person on himself and on others, affects the sporting action. The aim of this work is to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and the practice of physical activity. Through a systematic review in databases such as the Web of Science and Scopus that contain the terms of emotional intelligence along with the parameters of physical activity and sport. Twenty-four articles comprised the sample for further analysis. By way of conclusion it can be said that the main field of study of emotional intelligence related to the practice of physical activity is educational. Likewise, emotional intelligence is a determining factor in the improvement of sports competences.

Given the orientation of the student-centered education, through our study, we aim to prove that the game of basketball can influence the development of the emotional intelligence in young people in order to achieve future professional performances and increase the quality of life. Emotional intelligence involves recognizing one's emotions and using them to make appropriate decisions in life. The purpose of this study is the influence of emotional intelligence education techniques on psychological well-being and aggression of athlete students at the Karadeniz University. The research type is quasi-experimental and it is plan is preand post-test with the control group. The contribution of the physiologic and cognitive processes is important for increasing the quality of the education and occupational productivity. The new researches done indicate that exercising frequency and emotional intelligence level have precious contributions on the occupational performances of the individuals. The purpose of this research was determined as evaluating the sporting situation and emotional intelligence levels of adults in different occupational groups. 586 individuals participated in the research, who works in various professions in Bartın Province. The information on the participant group and the other variables of the research was analyzed via descriptive statistic techniques. For evaluating the data, SPSS 21.0 package software was used and for analyzing the data, descriptive statistics, independent t-test and one-way variance analysis (ANOVA) techniques were used. As a result of the data obtained, no significant difference was encountered in the emotional intelligence sub-dimensions and total scores depending on the sporting situation of the participants (p > 0.05). As a result of the analyses done for the gender variable, significant differences were obtained on behalf of the women and it was seen that emotional intelligence total scores of the female workers are higher compared with the male workers (p < 0.05). For the finding where the relations between age variable and emotional intelligence was evaluated, it was seen that there is a significant decrease in the emotional intelligence level with the increase in age (p < 0.05). This decrease was tried to be explained with occupational exhaustion. At the same time, the finding was arrived that the total emotional intelligence scores of the participants who work as teacher, compared with the other professions, is higher with a significant level compared with the other profession groups (p < 0.05). The findings of the research were discussed in the light of the literature and recommendations were offered for contributing to the new researches to be made.
Emotional Intelligence: A Review of Student-Athletes at Physical Education Program

The student-athletes of the physical education study program at Bengkulu University felt great emotional pressure. They were burdened with competing when they faced the opponent athletes from certain big campuses that had great achievements in sports. This feeling makes them feel afraid of losing the match. As athletes, the students must be able to overcome the emotional stress. So, they must have emotional intelligence. Moreover, the emotional intelligence of athletes in the physical education study program at the University of Bengkulu is needed to be researched. So, the purposes of this study are: 1) to determine the level of emotional intelligence of athletes in the physical education study program at the University of Bengkulu, and 2) to differentiate the emotional intelligence of athletes based on the sports where they participate in. To achieve the research objectives, a quantitative descriptive research method was used. A total of 109 student-athletes in the physical education study program at Bengkulu University were included in this study. The athletes are from 16 branches of sport athletics, weight lifting, wrestling, football, badminton, gymnastics, karate, basketball, volleyball, futsal, tae kwon do, Takraw, swimming, Pencak silat, table tennis, and hockey. The instrument was an Emotional Intelligence Self-Assessment questionnaire with a Likert scale. The data was analyzed by using one-way ANOVA. The results of the study show that: 1) the level of emotional intelligence of student-athletes is in the high category. Student-athletes from wrestling had the highest level of emotional intelligence. Student-athletes in badminton, Tae Kwon Do, Takraw, swimming, and hockey had moderate levels. 2) There is no difference in the emotional intelligence of athletes based on the sports they participate in. The results of this study contribute to coaches determining the level of emotional intelligence of their athletes.
Emotional intelligence and learning outcomes: Study in physical education

The correlation between emotional intelligence and learning outcomes of elementary school students in physical education is still minimal. Therefore, a deeper exploration in this study is carried out to reveal it. This study aims to analyze the correlation between emotional intelligence and students' physical education learning outcomes in elementary schools. This correlational study aims to analyze the relationship between emotional intelligence and elementary school students' learning outcomes in physical education. The ANOVA correlation between emotional intelligence and physical education learning outcomes shows a significance value of 0.224, greater than alpha 0.05. It means that there is no correlation between emotional intelligence and students’ cognitive learning outcomes in physical education subjects.
