An analysis of farmers’ income in some Italian agritourism

2018

Galluzzo, N. (2018). An analysis of farmers’ income in some Italian agritourism. Bulgarian Journal of Agricultural Science, 24(4), 560–565 This study discusses the evolution of agritourism in central region of Italy such as Latium region and as the staying time in farm has had direct effects on the level of farmer’s income. This research has proposed three different scenarios in terms of staying time of agritourists (3.5 days, 5 and 10 days per person) in order to assess the total costs and the total revenue for farmers. Findings have pointed out as there is not a return to scale between staying time and total revenue. The growth of agritourisms in Latium region has been strongly supported by fi nancial aids and other payments allocated by the European Common Agricultural Policy even if the land fragmentation of farms and the aging of farmers are two main constraints in a mounting growth of agritourisms. Outcomes have pointed out a not signifi cant role of a most famous touristic ce...

An assessment of rurality in Italian farms using a quantitative approach

2019

Galluzzo, N. (2019) An assessment of rurality in Italian farms using a quantitative approach. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 25(3), 433–438 The Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN) is a dataset able to investigated in depth the income of farmers, the items of cost and also the impact of the Common Agricultural Policy subsidies in a sample of farms. The core purpose of this research was to assess by a quantitative approach the rurality index in Italian farms part of FADN dataset investigating also if the fi nancial subsidies and land capital endowment have impacted on the rurality. In fact, this quantitative approach has evaluated the cause-effect relationships among different items and endogenous variables correlated to the rurality. The methodology has used a non-parametric approach such as the Partial Least Square Structural Equation Model (PLS-SEM) due to a small numerousness of farms in the sample; furthermore, because of not being a general codifi ed and well consolidated methodology ai...

Preliminary fi ndings in Italian farms part of FADN dataset by the PLS-SEM

2018

Galluzzo, N. (2018). Preliminary fi ndings in Italian farms part of FADN dataset by the PLS-SEM. Bulgarian Journal of Agricultural Science, 24(6), 927–932 In Italy there has been a signifi cant decrease of farms with the consequence to marginalize rural areas. By some fi nancial subsidies allocated throughout the Common Agricultural Policy there has been a partial reduction of socio-economic marginalization in Italian rural territories. The purpose of this research was to assess by a quantitative approach which variables have acted on the rurality, management of farms and features of different unit of production since 2005 to 2015 using the dataset published in the Farm Accountancy Data Network. Findings have pointed out the positive role of the specialization of farms in terms of cultivated areas and fi nancial subsidies allocated by the European Union throughout the Common Agricultural Policy and the Rural Development Plan. The Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PL...

Income Levels and Farm Economic Viability in Italian Farms: An Analysis of FADN Data

Sustainability

In the European Union legislative proposals for the next Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) the income support remains an essential part of the CAP. This paper analyses agricultural income levels, the role of EU aids in ensuring fair levels of income and how different socio-economic and structural characteristics affect farms’ economic viability. Italian Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN) data have been processed and economic viability has been assessed by comparing Farm Net Income to a reference income and by estimating a profitability index to check whether the agricultural activities remunerate factors owned by the farmer and his/her family. After an explorative analysis, two multinomial logit models have been estimated to evaluate how structural and socio-economic characteristics affect the likelihood of a farm to be viable with and without EU aids. Both structural farm characteristics and farmer’s production strategies explain the likelihood of a farm to be viable in the short ...

Resource allocation in Italian farm households

We shall present results of a recent survey on ‘pluriactivity’ (multiple-job-holding) of farm households in three Italian study areas with the objective of describing and interpreting income diversification in farm households. The descriptive part of our analysis treats family labour allocation to a multiplicity of gainful activities, as well as allocation of total family income to different purposes.
