Caracterização Estrutural de Argilas Utilizando DRX com Luz Síncrotron, MEV, FTIR e TG-DTG-DTA (original) (raw)

This work describes the structural characterization of commercial clays Argel ® and Volclay ® using synchrotron x-ray diffraction. The x-ray diffraction peaks were indexed using the PDF-ICDD crystallographic card, identifying phases such as bentonite, illite, quartz and kaolinite. The most important phase for purposes of intercalation is Bentonite, in which the peak (001) shifts to lower 2 theta angles. Scanning electron microscopy images showed the presence of small crystals on the surface of Argel ® , which differentiated it from Volclay ®. Analytical data from energy dispersive spectroscopy permitted estimation of the chemical composition, while the vibrational spectra and thermogravimetric curves contributed to the characterization and differentiation of the two clays.
