The Acceptance of MOOC in Teaching and Learning Process: A Case Study at Malaysian Public University

The aim of these studies is to investigate the acceptance of MOOC and factors that might influence the use of MOOC at Public Universities. A quantitative technique which is a survey method was conducted at the selected public university where data were collected from 400 respondents. The analysis was then conducted by using Smart PLS software. Meanwhile, the Technology Acceptance Model was implemented as to obtain the findings of this study. The results showed that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence and facilitating condition are factors influencing MOOC usage among students at the particular university. The findings also show that the acceptance level of MOOC learning at this particular university was substantial due to some factors might influence the usage and encouragement of these technologies. This chapter explores the implementation of MOOC in the Malaysian higher education system. Using the SWOT analysis, we examine the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats of Malaysian MOOC implementation based on the existing literature. The chapter first provides an overview of MOOC in the Malaysian higher education system context, followed by presentation of the SWOT analysis and recommends suggestions for research in MOOC.
Students’ Perceptions on MOOCs: An Exploratory Study

MOOCs are open, online courses that use information technologies to enhance the learning experience and attract various people from the entire world. The current study uses the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), as well as personal characteristics such as learning strategies, cognitive appraisal, and Kuhlthau’s (1991) model of information seeking as theoretical bases for defining factors that may influence students adopting MOOCs in their learning process, as well as describe their feelings during the learning process. The study was conducted in Israel during the 2014 academic year, and used both quantitative and qualitative techniques and involved 102 students who participated in a MOOC as part of the requirements in an offline course. Technology-based education methods have an interest in ensuring Malaysia's position in the global rankings. Furthermore, the government intends to raise the level of online learning globally. Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is a platform that allows the government's intention to be successfully achieved. This study aims to identify students' level of knowledge on the importance of use of MOOC and on the application of MOOC in teaching and learning. It also intends to identify the students' level of acceptance of MOOC and the level of its effectiveness in teaching and learning. A total of 247 users of MOOC from one of the public university were sampled in this study. The data were collected using a set of questionnaire and were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS version 21). Results showed that the level in knowledge, usage, acceptance, and effectiveness were high among the students. From the findings, some suggestions were made to future researchers and the parties involved in university management.

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) is a present technological innovation of teaching and learning in the modern higher education landscape. MOOCs have reformed the manner of instructional delivery by the educators as well as the way learners acquire their knowledge. For this reason, this study explores the definitions of MOOCs, its characteristics, benefits as well as drawbacks and MOOCs practices in Malaysia. We also look into the assessments and grading practices in MOOCs as well as factors affecting learners’ readiness to MOOCs. Challenges to Teaching and Learning Using MOOC

The Malaysian Education Development Plan (PPPM) 2015-2025 (Higher Education) strongly emphasizes the use of information technology and the transformation of the delivery of teaching and learning processes (T & L). The plan places the ninth shift in the global online learning which is intended to transform the education system by leveraging information technology in improving the quality of learning in Malaysia. This is in line with Education 4.0 which highlights the 21st century skills that are so important to be applied in education. Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are a platform introduced as a new approach to the T & L process. Although MOOCs have been found to improve teaching and increase student engagement, many previous studies have shown that students' readiness to use MOOCs is still at a moderate level. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify the major barriers to the use of MOOCs at one polytechnic in the Southern Zone. This quantitative study was conducted by administering the questionnaire to 213 students for feedback. Data were collected using a 1 to 5 Likert scale and analyzed using Statistical Package For Social Science (SPSS) by measuring the frequency and percentages. The alpha value of the questionnaire was, α = 0.887. The findings showed that internet/Wi-Fi coverage sources are a major obstacle to using MOOCs within the classroom even though students are committed and motivated towards using MOOCs.

MOOCs are the prominent trend in education. This initiative is aimed at facilitates larger group of learners specially for those who want to continue their education without choosing the traditional mode of education. This study is aimed at to examine the utility of MOOCs among the students of Allahabad university those are enrolled in professional courses and non-professional courses at post-graduation level. This study is descriptive survey in nature and the sample of 200 students selected by the random sampling method. Results of this study concludes that 67% students from the professional and non-professional group considered UGC MOOCs SWAYAM as a useful platform rest 33% student deny with the utility of this platform.

Recently, the use of technology in teaching and learning session has had a considerable impact. Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) is one of the platforms and mediums for online learning practiced by most universities and colleges. There have been many researches on the usefulness of MOOC in teaching and learning. However, there is a lack of literature on Malaysian students' readiness towards the use and application of MOOC. Due to this, this study intended to investigate Malaysian students' readiness towards the use of MOOC in tertiary level of education. The respondents of this study involved twenty university students from various public and private universities. The findings have gathered that students are prepared and able to utilize MOOC in their learning. They are efficient in using internet, computers and online technologies to communicate, work and perform tasks. This paper aims to assist current and future educators to manage a productive educational setting.
With the development of technology and internet, more and more public universities in Malaysia has put in their efforts and investment in MOOC. The benefits of MOOC cannot be maximized, as there is high enrollment but low courses completion rate. The aim of this paper is to explore the influence perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use and time spent towards MOOC continuance intention among Higher Education students. Data from 447 students in Malaysian Public Universities was collected and multiple regression approach was adopted. The results revealed that perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use have strong and significant correlation with MOOC continuance intention while time spent has weak and non-significant correlation with MOOC continuance intention. The findings provide insights to MOOC providers in planning improved continuance intention towards using MOOCs.
