Background: In March 2020, the WHO declared the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak a global pandemic. Although the number of infected cases is increasing, information about its clinical characteristics in the Middle East, especially in Iran, a country which is considered to be one of the most important focal points of the disease in the world, is lacking. To date, there is no available literature on the clinical data on COVID-19 patients in Iran. Methods: In this multicenter retrospective study, 113 hospitalized confirmed cases of COVID-19 admitted to university affiliated hospitals in Shiraz, Iran from February 20 to March 20 were entered in the study. Results: The mean age was 53.75 years and 71 (62.8%) were males. The most common symptoms at onset were fatigue (75: 66.4%), cough (73: 64.6%), and fever (67: 59.3%). Laboratory data revealed significant correlation between lymphocyte count (P value = 0.003), partial thromboplastin time (P value = 0.000), international normalized ratio (P value = 0.000) with the severity of the disease. The most common abnormality in chest CT scans was ground-glass opacity (77: 93.9%), followed by consolidation (48: 58.5%). Our results revealed an overall 8% (9 out of 113 cases) mortality rate among patients, in which the majority was among patients admitted to the ICU (5: 55.6%). Conclusion: Evaluating the clinical data of COVID-19 patients and finding the source of infection and studying the behavior of the disease is crucial for understanding the pandemic.

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was introduced by the World Health Organization as a pandemic and emergency for human health. This study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics of patients infected with COVID-19 in Guilan Province, Iran. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted on 1,000 patients with a definitive diagnosis of COVID-19 pneumonia admitted to six hospitals in Guilan Province, Iran, from April 13 to June 14, 2020. This study evaluated the patients' clinical information, demographic characteristics, laboratory results, and chest computed tomography scans. Background. The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) dates back to December 2019 in China. Iran has been among the most prone countries to the virus. The aim of this study was to report demographics, clinical data, and their association with death and CFR. Methods. This observational cohort study was performed from 20th March 2020 to 18th March 2021 in three tertiary educational hospitals in Tehran, Iran. All patients were admitted based on the WHO, CDC, and Iran’s National Guidelines. Their information was recorded in their medical files. Background: Pulmonary Manifestations and damage are one of the most serious problems in COVID-19 patients. Objectives: This study aimed to describe the epidemiological, clinical, and imaging characteristics of patients infected with this virus in the first wave of the COVID-19 epidemic. Methods: By census approach, data were collected from two coronavirus referral hospitals in Ahvaz, the capital of Khuzestan province (southwestern Iran), from June to August 2020. Background and Purpose: COVID-19 is a new infectious-disease first identified in December 2019 in China, and since it spread globally, it resulted in a Pandemic. Here, we review clinical features of COVID-19 patients with different severities.Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed in Imam Reza hospital, Mashhad, Iran, during February-April 2020. COVID-19 patients with typical computed tomography (CT) patterns and/or positive reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) were included. Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection has been widespread. Objectives: We aim to investigate the demographic and clinical characteristics associated with COVID-19 infection between January 24 to June 10, 2020. Methods: All data related to tested patients (positive and negative cases) were extracted from the integrated health information system (IHIS) between January 24 to June 10, 2020. Background: The outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has led to a major concern for those who are more vulnerable to infections. Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the most important risk factors for severe COVID-19 pneumonia. Methods: This retrospective study included information on clinical and epidemiological features of 105 patients with severe COVID-19 pneumonia hospitalized in Tajrish Hospital, Tehran, Iran. Initially, the medical records of the patients were investigated, and an interview was conducted based on a pre-prepared checklist to seek information about symptoms, past medical history, medication history, and behavior before hospitalization. Results: Out of 105 participants, 76 (72.5%) cases were male, and 54 (51.4%) patients were older than 54 years old. Epidemiological and Clinical Risk Factors Related to Severe COVID-19 in Iran: A multi-center study
Background: Iran was one of the first countries to be affected by COVID-19. Identifying factors associated with the severity of COVID-19 is useful in disease management. This study investigated the epidemiological and clinical features and factors related to severe COVID-19 in Iran's less-privileged area. Methods: In a multicenter study, all patients admitted to Zahedan University of Medical Sciences hospitals located in southeastern Iran were investigated from February 29 to April 31, 2020. The demographic, epidemiological, and clinical data of patients were extracted from medical records. To explore the risk factors associated with the severity of COVID-19, bivariate and multivariate logistic regression models were used. Results: Among the 413 patients, 55.5% were male, and 145 (35.10%) were in severe condition at admission time. Multivariate analysis showed that the adjusted odds of the disease severity increased in patients with older age (OR 3.51; 95% CI, 2.28-5.40), substance abuse (OR 2.22; 95% CI, 2.05-5.78), and at least one underlying disease (OR 3.45; 95% CI, 1.01-1.32). Conclusions: COVID-19 was more severe in older patients, patients with a history of substance abuse, and patients with at least one underlying disease. Understanding the factors affecting the disease severity can help for the clinical management of COVID-19, especially in less privileged areas where fewer resources are available.
