The outbreak of COVID-19 in China has affected the lives of many. It has not only affected the people economically/ professionally but even mentally and emotionally. Level of anxiety and its association with social media exposure among middle-aged adults was assessed during this outbreak, there was excess use of social media which can increase the anxiety. Objectives of the study were: To assess the levels of anxiety and social media exposure, to identify the co-relation between levels of anxiety and social media exposure and to associate the levels of anxiety and the social media exposure with selected demographic variables during COVID outbreak among middle aged adults. A correlational study design was employed on 35 middle aged adults at rural area of Tirupati by using Nonprobability Convenient Sampling technique. The level of anxiety was assessed using a standard GAD-7 scale and social media exposure was assessed by using a structured questionnaire. The results were out of 35 sample 11.40% had mild anxiety, 40% had moderate anxiety, 42.90% had moderate severe anxiety and 5.70% had severe anxiety (31.9±3.03) and 91.40% had average social media exposure and 8.60% had above average social media exposure (10.2±3.54). Based on the obtained findings this study demonstrated that there is moderate positive correlation between the level of anxiety and social media exposure. There is correlation between the level of anxiety and social media exposure with the demographic variables. There is significant association between the health status with level of anxiety and with social media exposure at p<0.05 level.

The role of social media during the widespread outbreak of Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is associated with significant effect on psychological well-being of people. This corona virus has become a black swan event for all and affected people’s life in numerous ways such as physically, mentally, financially. To prevent the spread of this virus, the effective and powerful measure is social distancing. All over the world have been practicing this social distancing since this virus keeps its footstep into this world. While practicing social distancing, quarantine; people are facing with mental health related problems such as depression, anxiety, stress, suicidal thoughts etcetera. Social media is playing an effective platform to keep connected with all people when people are engrossed into this social distancing. It seems social distancing is the ultimate need and social media has become the necessity during this pandemic. This study aims to justify the influence of social distancing and social media on people’s mental health. Snowball sampling method was used to choose 150 statistical population for this study. Web-based questionnaire was prepared, and data were analyzed through SEM-PLS model using Smart PLS. Composite reliability, Cronbach’s alpha and discriminant validity have meet all the threshold for this research. The finding implies that social distancing has significant impact on mental health whereas social media proves insignificant impact on mental health.
Social Media Exposure and Mental Health During COVID-19 Outbreak

To investigate relationship of social media exposure with prevalence of depression and anxiety among general public in Lahore, Pakistan during the COVID-19 outbreak. METHODS: A web-based cross-sectional study was conducted via Google forms in June-July 2020 among Pakistani citizens aged ³18 years. Purposive convenient sampling was done. The questionnaire constituted sociodemographic data, information regarding social media exposure, and scales to assess depression and anxiety. Social media exposure was measured by a questionnaire based on previous literature while depression and anxiety were measured by WHO-Five Well-Being Index (WHO-5) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) scale respectively. Differences in depression and anxiety between groups and their associations with their social media use were examined through Chi-square test. RESULTS: Out of 516 participants who completed the questionnaire, 447 (86.6%) had frequent exposure to social media. Facebook (n=345; 66.9%) and WhatsApp (n=224; 43.4%) were the most used platforms to obtain COVID-19 related news. The prevalence of depression, anxiety, and combined depression and anxiety in the sample was 46.3% (n=239), 45.5% (n=235), and 29.7% (n=153) respectively. Statistically significant association was observed between depression and social media exposure (p<0.001) and the combination of depression and anxiety and social media exposure (p<0.05), but not with anxiety. About 56.0% (n=289) participants believed that publishing more COVID-19 related news leads to fear and panic. CONCLUSION: People with frequent social media exposure during COVID-19 experienced detrimental effects on mental health. The awareness about limiting social media exposure during the pandemic and psychological support is required to safeguard their well-being.

As in all cases, individuals' psychological reactions differ from each other in critical processes such as in pandemic. It is important to determine which factors are more threatening to individuals' mental health. In this context, in the study it is aimed to measure the depression, anxiety and stress responses of individuals during the COVID-19 pandemic process in Turkish society and to research whether there is a significant difference according to some variables such as gender, age, marital status, time spent at home during the pandemic process, social media usage level, whether a relative is positive or not, and whether the workload increases or decreases during the pandemic process. Methods: In this research, a descriptive method has been used in the relational screening model. The sample consists of a total of 881 participants, 484 of which are women and 397 men. The personal information form has been used as a measurement tool, and the DASS-21 scale has been used to determine the levels of depression, anxiety and stress. Since the data do not show normal distribution, non-parametric analysis methods have been used. Results: In the study, it was understood that gender, marital status, age, duration of social media use, a COVID-19 positive relative, staying at home and increased workload had significant effects on psychological reactions. Suggestions are given in the light of the research findings.
Social Media, Anxiety and COVID-19 Lockdown Measurement Compliance

The aim of the present research was to analyze the effect of anxiety levels during the COVID-19 pandemic in the use of social media and compliance with lockdown measures during the confinement. A total of 1723 participants (32.1% males and 77.9% females; 32.6 ± 9.2 years) were interviewed by a Spanish version of the Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. From the results obtained, the sample was divided into two 50th percentile groups, a high anxiety group (HAG) and a low anxiety group (LAG). We found how the LAG had lower use of social networks such as Facebook and Twitter during confinement. Also, this group presented a higher rate of leaving home during the confinement and higher values in people with whom they had lived with during confinement than high anxiety group. Social media has a significant impact on people's daily lives and spread widely. Unrestrained usage of social media could have worsening consequences on mental health. The majority of COVID-19 users who were exposed to social media learned about numerous facts, which made their anxiety and depression-related mental health disorders worse. This study aims to determine how social media usage affects users' mental health during the COVID19 pandemic. Through surveys and expert interviews, this study collects both quantitative and qualitative data. Total number of respondent involved was 106 with average age group of 18-41 year old. Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine how the use of social media during the COVID-19 pandemic and what social media had to do with mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research method used in this study is the research library, which is considered effective during the COVID-19 emergency status. Social media is one way that is considered effective to overcome the boredom of being at home. Social media can keep us connected with people who are separated from us. However, the use of social media must be fortified with knowledge and wise thoughts, because not all information we receive through social media is true. We cannot panic quickly with the information we get. We should first check the information we receive. This is very important to do to maintain our mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic.
