Use of Social Networking Sites by the Faculty Members of State University of India: A Study of Doon University

Research Problem: The present study revealed about the use of social networking sites by the faculty members of State University of India. Doon University has been taken for the study, which is situated at Shivalik range of Uttarakhand. Methodology Applied: A closed questionnaire method was applied for the study. 42 questionnaires were distributed amongst faculty members of Doon University and only 28 respondents replied. One faculty member is not using social networking sites. Results/conclusions: It is observed that majority of the faculty members of Doon University (DU) from all disciplines are aware of the SNSs and have accounts on them. 70.37% % faculties accessed Whats App through their Mobile Phones. 77.78% faculties accessed SNS through Desktop for accessing other social networking sites. 88.88% faculty members of DU are sharing information or knowledge through SNS. 62.97% faculty members of DU believed that SNS is used for staying up to date with community news. 40.74% faculties of DU used it once in a day and 59.25% members of DU are using it more than four years. 55.56% faculty members believed that SNS is reliable. 59.25% faculty members of DU are satisfied with SNS. Recommendations: Library of Doon University should use these social networking sites in promoting their services amongst faculty members.

Use of Social Networking Sites by Faculty Members and Students of NIT, Mizoram: A Case Study

The second generation of web (web 2.0) brings empowerment to the end users by actively create content and actively participate in web to share information to others. Social Networking Sites (SNSs) are one tool of web 2.0 technology which provides collaborative service platform and it is web based software that allows creation of online social networks for society who shares their interest and activities. The Social Networking Sites (SNSs) offer a variety of tools, techniques and services for the users. The present study is an attempt to analyze use of social networking sites by faculties and students of NIT, Mizoram. The findings of the study acknowledge that most of them were aware with the use of SNSs and they are using it for sharing information and communication. Poor internet facility, lack of time,lack of privacy, not allowed in departments and lack of technical knowledge are the main problems faced by the respondents.

Familiarity with and Awareness of Academic Social Networking Sites Among Lecturers of Umar Ibn Ibrahim El-Kanemi College of Education Science And Technology Bama

The study focused on investigating familiarity with and awareness of Academic Social Networking Sites among lecturers of Umar Ibn Ibrahim El-Kanemi College of Education Science and Technology Bama. Four research questions guided the study. Similarly, the study adopted a survey study design in which quantitative data were collected to answer the research questions. Findings reveal that ResearchGate, Academia.edu, Google+ and Google Scholar have ratings of 11 (23.4%), 14 (29.8%), 34 (72.3%) and 23 (48.9%) respectively, this means that the lecturers are aware of and familiar with these sites. The lecturers’ level of proficiency with Academic Social Networking Sites shows that most of the lecturer’s responses are dominated by “very incompetent” or “incompetent”. The only exception is Google+ which has a rating of 13 (27.7%). The findings also indicate that most of the lecturers 32 (68.1%) are using Academic Social Networking Sites for research. Finally, the most used Academic Social Networking Sites with a score between 10 (21.3%) and 21(44.7%) are Google Scholar and Google+ respectively.

Uses of Social Networking Sites among Postgraduate Students at University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh : A Study

This study aims to find out the use of social networking sites (SNSs) for educational purposes among the postgraduate students at the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. The study selects descriptive survey method and questionnaire tools for gathering the data. Findings of the study shows that students have a positive attitude towards the role of social networking sites for their academic purposes. Notably, the respondents mostly prefer Facebook which is the most preferable SNS among the others. Finding also demonstrates that majority of the respondents strongly agreed that SNSs help their educational field and it builds up a good relationship between their friends, family, educators, etc. This study reveals that respondents are strongly agreed that they get up-to-date information through SNSs and share their thoughts, information to the others. Impact of Social Networking Sites in Scholarly Communication by State Universities of Uttrakhand

This study finds out usage pattern of social networking sites (SNS) of academicians in scholarly communication in the Central Himalayan region of Uttarakhand state universities of India. The results revealed that 93 % faculty members of State universities of Uttarakhand were using SNS and sharing of information was the highest amongst them. 44 % were using SNS several times a day, 48 % faculty members thought that SNS information were reliable. 33 % faculty members believed that there was a possibility of fraud through SNS and 41.64 % faculty members believed that SNS had a little impact on their lives. 28.75% were using Facebook, which was highest in all SNS. The result indicated that the percentage usage by the faculty members in terms of the latest knowledge was 38.0%. Mostly faculty members were using the SNS from their homes. One very important factor responsible for this could be the lack of Wi-Fi facility available to them in all the campuses of the universities. Therefore the study recommends that Wi-Fi should be made available in all the universities, so that the faculties can use them in their academic pursuit, during their working hour in the campus, and this will further lead to an in depth use of SNS for academic excellence.

Use of Academic Social Networking Sites by the Research Scholars in the Universities of Dharwad City: A study

The study conducted by Nandez and Borrego (2012) reveals that the research scholars use the Academic Social Networking Sites (here after ASNSs) to get in touch with their peers, propagate research outcomes and follow other researchersThere are numerous Academic Social Networking Sites (ASNSs) which facilitate researchers stay in touch with the research / academic community in the similar fields of activity. The study conducted by Kenchakkanavar and Hadagali (2016) reveals that ResearchGate, Academia.edu and Slideshare are commonly used ASNSs. These ASNSs are mainly used to share jobs, education and research related information with their friends. Hence, the present study has been undertaken to determine the use of Academic Social Networking Sites by the research scholars of the two state universities.
