Abstract

A survey of local amenity society attitudes to tourism in the UK is summarized. Amenity societies are voluntary organizations formed with the basic aim of upholding high standards of environmental management in their areas of interest. About 1000 such societies in the UK are registered with the Civic Trust and their aggregate membership is about 300 000.
