Background: Headache is one of the most common maladies which affect humans. However, headache has not been sufficiently studied as a cause of morbidity in the developing world. The present study was conducted to study the demographical, etiological and clinical profile of headache patients using guidelines of International Classification of Headache Disorders , in a tertiary neurocare centre. Methods: The study included 500 patients with complaints of headache attending the Patients underwent thorough clinical examination and psychiatric evaluation and clinical investigations were done as and when required. Results: Among the 500 patients with headache, primary headache (87.8%) was the most common type, with migraine found in 45.6 % of cases, and tension-type headache (TTH) in 36.4%. Among the secondary types, the most common was headache caused post sinusitis (48%) followed by ICSOL (36 %). Both types of headaches were significantly more common in women and younger age groups. Conclusions: Since more than 85% of headaches seen in practice are primary headaches, it is to be realised that matters have come a long way in the last decade and these is now enough evidence to prove that primary headaches are a genuine potentially treatable biological problem. This study would help in identifying the significant gaps in headache care and in strengthening existing health systems so that they better recognize headache disorders.

Frequency of Headache Disorders in Neurology Outpatients at Yalgado Ouedraogo University Teaching Hospital. A 3-Month Prospective Cross-sectional Study

To determine the frequency of chronic headache in a population of patients attending to neurology consultation. This prospective cross-sectional study was carried on patients with chronic headaches attending at neurology consultation of YOUTH. This study was conducted in 3 months in the Neurology Department of Ouagadougou YOUTH from October 10, 2017 to January 10, 2018. One hundred and two patients (mean age 41.2 ± 16.1 years, 61.8% of women) with headache were included during study period. The majority of patients (56.9%) had previous medical or nursing consultations. Of them, 76.5% had received prior medical treatment. The most common past medical history was cranial trauma (21.6%) followed by hypertension (18.6%) and dental diseases (16.7%). The mean duration of headache was 52.5 ± 32.7 months (ranges 3-273 months). The majority of patients (85.4%) had episodic headaches. Primary headaches were the most common cause of headache (52.9%), including tension-type headaches (51.8%) and migraine (38.9%). Headache had major impact on the quality of life of patients with migraine (44.5%) and patients with TTH (54.2%). Headache was frequent in Neurology Department. Primary headaches are the most common types of headache dominated by tension-type headaches and migraine.

Pattern of Presentation of Headache among Attendees of Health Centres Attached to a Tertiary Care Hospital, Dharwad

Introduction: Despite that headache is felt, at some time, by nearly everybody, it is not known how, or how many of the populations of the world, or how healthcare and other resources are utilized to mitigate their effects. Globally, it has been estimated that prevalence among adults of current headache disorder is 47% in general. This study was conducted to know the pattern, factors triggering and associated with headache. Materials and methods: A time bound cross-sectional study was conducted for a period of two months. Using convenient sampling individuals10 years and above and had at least one episode of headache in last one month were interviewed. Results: Mean age presenting with headache was 29.26 +/- 12.13 years. Predominant age at onset was <20 years (55.7%). Monthly frequency (47.54%), bilateral location of headache (54.1%) and throbbing nature (59.01%) were more common. Most common triggering factors were sleep disturbance (63.9%) and stress (55.7%). Worsening was seen by any form of exertion (32.8%) and relieving factors included medication (54.1%) and rest (41%). Conclusion: Headache mainly affects the working population (18-40yrs) which reduces their working efficiency. Hence measures have to be taken to prevent and reduce the frequency of headache.

Etiological Evaluation of Headache Patients in a Tertiary Care Hospital

Original Research Article Background: Headache is a very common complain amongst patients attending inpatient and outpatient departments of Medicine and Neuromedicine. In this study an attempt has been made to evaluate the etiological and clinical pattern of headache in our populations. The results of the study will help prompt and early diagnosis of headache patients. Methods: This study was conducted in the department of Medicine and Neuromedicine of SSMC and Mitford Hospital from 1 st July, 2014 to 31 st December, 2014. This is a prospective observational study. Sample size is 100. Qualitative purposive sampling has been done. Sample has been selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Proper history taking, thorough physical examination and necessary investigation have been done to find out the etiology of headache. The data has been recorded in a structured format and analyzed by computer software SPSS. Result: In the study mean age of the respondents was 39.8±26.66 (at 95%CI). Male and female ratio was 0.72:1.This study revealed that out of 100 patients 60 patients had Tension type headache (TTH), 11 patients had migraine, 15 patients had Mixed cranial headache (MCH), 1 patient to Cluster headache (CH) and 13 patients had secondary headache. It was seen that most patients (87%) suffered from primary headache with TTH being the commonest diagnosis. Females were more affected than male in all groups except secondary headache. There was decline in primary headache with advancing age as the number of secondary headaches increased. Investigations were needed in a very small group of patients. Conclusion: It is very important to differentiate the different types of headache. Knowledge about etiological pattern of headache will help clinically in prioritizing the patients, in planning investigations, early diagnosis and prompt management and prevent complications of the patients.

Study of Prevalence of Headache and its Various Facets among 200 Medical Students of SBKS MI RC Sumandeep Vidyapeeth

Aim: The aim of study is to study the prevalence of headache and its various facets among 200 medical students of SBKSMI & RC. Objectives: 1) To find out the common causes of headache among medical students. 2) To find out gender difference in prevalence of headaches among medical student. 3) To determine the severity and frequency of headache. 4) To find out various relieving factors used by medical students for headache Materials and Methods: Cross-sectional study was carried out among 200 medical students of SBKS MI & RC. The questionnaire forms were distributed among 200 medical students studying in 2 nd year, 3 rd year or Final year MBBS. They were asked to fill up the forms with their consent and then were collected. Data analysis was done and results and conclusions were reported in the report. Results: Our study demonstrated headache prevalence among 200 medical students of which 110 were male and 90 were female. Prevalence of headache was at least 2 days per month in 37.5% students (75 students). From these students 55.5% (111 students) take medications for relieving. Most common type of headache seen among medical students was Tension type headache in 55% students (110 students) due to exams. Conclusion: The result in this study demonstrate that most common type of headache among medical students of SBKSMI & RC was Tension type headache due to exams and more than half of the students take medications to relieve headache and most of the students suffer headache at least 2 days a month.

Frequency, character and predisposing factor of headache among students of medical college of Karachi

To evaluate the frequency, predisposing factors and symptomatology of headache among medical students. The cross-sectional study was conducted from September to December 2013 and comprised students of two medical colleges of Karachi. International Classification of Headache Disorder-II criterion was used to diagnose and classify headache. SPSS 17 was used for statistical analysis. Of the 413 medical students studies, 326(79%) had tension type headache, and 87 (21%) had migraine. Headache was more frequent among females than males, with a ratio of 6.5:1. Both types of headache were significantly associated with self-reported disturbed sleep pattern, stress and various triggering factors (p<0.05 each). Both types greatly influenced individual's daily life with significant association with avoiding academics, extra-curricular activities, family and friends (p<0.05 each).
