Effectiveness of Google Classroom: Teachers’ Perceptions

Technology has gained importance in all stages of education yet educators have been unable to figure out which of the many available technological tools best fit their classroom practices. Google Classroom is one such tool that is free of cost and has gained popularity within a short span of time. The main purpose of the study is to assess teachers’ perception on the effectiveness of Google Classroom. The study is carried out through a qualitative research design. The sample of the study, which uses semi-structured interview method, consists of 12 higher education teachers who have implemented Google Classroom for at least one semester in their classroom. The data acquired has been put through a comprehensive analysis by coding and categorizing the data through NVivo. English Teachers’ Perception on Using Google Classroom

Online learning has become an alternative for schools and any other education programs, since the unexpected situation due to the pandemic. Various online tools are provided for this virtual learning. One of the most popular tools used by the teachers is Google Classroom. This research was aimed to determine teachers' perception on using Google Classroom as online learning platform at Pondok Pesantren Sumatera Thawalib Parabek. The type of this research was descriptive quantitative. The data were teacher's responses on the interview questions, checklist, and questionnaire. These data were collected from 5 teachers of second grade students at Pondok Pesantren Sumatera Thawalib Parabek. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The finding shows that 71% of teachers' perceptions are categorized as positive percentage. This finding indicated that teachers' have positive perception on using Google Classroom at Pondok Pesantren Sumatera Thawalib.

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF GOOGLE CLASSROOM AS AN INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA: A CASE OF STATE ISLAMIC INSTITUTE OF KENDARI, INDONESIA

This study aims to explore the effectiveness of Google Classroom in the learning process at the State Islamic Institute of Kendari. The research method used in this study is a qualitative method, in-depth interview. Data collection was done through interview sessions with students from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. The findings showed that the use of Google Classroom was effective with various limitations: (1) not all students got an account what was provided by the lecturers because they did not have a smartphone, (2) Wi-Fi availability in the campus was limited and (3) the students did not have enough mobile data plan during the time of online discussion and even some students submitted their assignments using their friends' account. Applications of this study: The study will allow future initiatives to take into consideration the issues and challenges related to accessibility, connectivity and affordability among the users of the platform, in this case the students. Novelty/Originality: This study provides valuable insights into the initiatives taken by the institutions of higher education in Indonesia that lack a proper platform for implementing e-learning. Issues and challenges found in this study contribute to making important strategic decisions when designing and implementing such initiatives in the future.

To study the impact of Google Classroom as a platform of learning and collaboration at the teacher education level

The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of Google Classroom Platform of learning at the teacher education level. Web-Based Learning Environment Inventory (WEBLEI) (Chang and Fisher 1998, 2003) and Google Classroom Evaluation Survey was used in this study. The sample of 60 students consisting of both males and females was collected from one college of education in Jammu city, where teaching-learning process was being conducted using the Google Classroom setup. Data analysis revealed that students could access the learning activities easily, they could communicate with other students in their subject electronically, they could decide when they wanted to learn, and they could work at their own pace. Results also showed that the students could regularly access online resources and they had the autonomy to ask their tutor what they did not understand. Students experienced a sense of satisfaction and achievement and they felt at ease in working collaboratively with other students. The students were also happy to print lectures and exercise materials from resources uploaded by their teachers. Responses to the Google Classroom Evaluation survey showed that the teachers were able to give better individual attention and students developed a group feeling in such a classroom setup. Students also felt that learning through the Google classroom was not boring and it was not a waste of time. They found it to be an effective medium of studying.

Perception of Students on the Use of Google Classroom for Educational Purposes

This study investigated the Perception of students on the use of Google Classroom for educational purposes. Four research objectives, four research questions and three hypotheses guided the study. The population of the study used all education students in the Faculty of Education, University of Port Harcourt. A sample of 300 students was used for the study. Purposive and stratified random sampling techniques were used for the study and the instrument used to collect data was a structured questionnaire titled Perception of students on the use of Google Classroom in Tertiary Institutions (PSGCTI) with 40 items. A reliability coefficient of .74 was obtained for the structured questionnaire administered to students. Mean scores, Z-test and Anova, were used as the statistical tools for the study. It was found that the Google classroom platform helps students organize their assignments and it fosters better communication between teachers and students. It was also found that Google classroom makes online learning exciting and it creates creativity and critical thinking and makes students highly motivated. Based on the findings, it was recommended that Google classroom is a useful tool that every educator should use for teaching online. Furthermore, it was also recommended that teachers should use the Google classroom tool to bring about paperless communication in the classroom.

Google Classroom as Educational Communication Media (Study at SMA Negeri 2 Percontohan Karang Baru)

This study aims to determine the role of Google Classroom as an alternative media in SMA Negeri 2 Percontohan Karang Baru. Google Classroom is an example of new media that is now widely used in education. This Google Classroom also has many features that make it easier for users to carry out the learning process even though it is not face-to-face. Teachers and students who use Google Classroom also find it helpful to have features that make the learning process easier at SMA Negeri 2 Percontohan. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach, with research data collected through observation, semi-structured interviews with several informants, and documentation. Teacher's Perspectives Toward Google Classroom as a Tool for Improving Elt Classroom Interaction

Google Classroom as a tool that connects teachers and students which encourage interaction with each other through a virtual online class that offers various features. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of using Google Classroom in the ELT class for improving classroom interaction through the teacher's perspectives. By using the phenomenological qualitative research with a sample of one private junior high school teacher in Yogyakarta, data collected were obtained using open-ended and semi-structured interviews. The analysis was done by reading each transcript, rereading, and looking for common words that fit the category. The result revealed that the use of Google Classroom in ELT class is beneficial in the learning process, it can increase students' attention. However, some students did not pay attention to the learning process, and the students used English to communicate if the teacher asked them in the learning process.

Learning Management System (LMS) is gaining prominence in how education is delivered today due to the increased popularity of remote and online distance learning and the unimaginable COVID-19 pandemic that stuns the world. The Use of Google Classroom to Support the Learning Process

The purpose of this study is to assess the students' skills in creating virtual classrooms using the Google Classroom (GC) application through a 30 item questionnaire. In addition, the study used a Likert scale and an interview to explore students' perceptions towards GC. The sample consisted of 26 Master's students in the College of Education at Al Ain University in UAE. Data was generated from analyzing the questionnaire, and the Likert scale and the interview were used to answer the research questions. The results revealed that the degree of Master's students' skills in creating virtual classrooms was weak, and there are no statistically significant differences between students' skills based on gender and specialization.
