Desenvolvimento Socioeconômico em uma Região Periférica da Amazônia: Tocantins (original) (raw)
2014, Revista de Economia da UEG, v10, n.2 (2014)
The central objective of this paper is to characterize the indicators of socioeconomic development in the state of Tocantins, a peripheral region of Amazon, in the first decade of this century. The used data are from Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística- IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), the State of Tocantins, and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). Used data were birth rate, crude death rate and infant, Human Development Index, literacy rate, fertility rate, and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita. Results suggest that Tocantins occupies the median position in socioeconomic development in the Brazilian North region and showed progress on some indicators but still has long way for reaching satisfactory standard of economic development.
