Invariants of welded virtual knots via crossed module invariants of knotted surfaces
Compositio Mathematica, 2008
We define an invariant of welded virtual knots from each finite crossed module by considering crossed module invariants of ribbon knotted surfaces which are naturally associated with them. We elucidate that the invariants obtained are non-trivial by calculating explicit examples. We define welded virtual graphs and consider invariants of them defined in a similar way.
An unknotting invariant for welded knots
Proceedings - Mathematical Sciences, 2021
We study a local twist move on welded knots that is an analog of the virtualization move on virtual knots. Since this move is an unknotting operation we define an invariant, unknotting twist number, for welded knots. We relate the unknotting twist number with warping degree and welded unknotting number, and establish a lower bound on the twist number using Alexander quandle coloring. We also study the Gordian distance between welded knots by twist move and define the corresponding Gordian complex. 2010 Mathematics Subject Classifications. 57M25, 57M27.

We study new skein invariants of links based on a procedure where we first apply a given skein relation only to crossings of distinct components, so as to produce collections of unlinked knots. We then evaluate the resulting knots using the given invariant. A skein invariant can be computed on each link solely by the use of skein relations and a set of initial conditions. The new procedure, remarkably, leads to generalizations of the known skein invariants. We make skein invariants of classical links, [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], based on the invariants of knots, [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], denoting the regular isotopy version of the Homflypt polynomial, the Kauffman polynomial and the Dubrovnik polynomial. We provide skein theoretic proofs of the well-definedness of these invariants. These invariants are also reformulated into summations of the generating invariants ([Formula: see text], [Formula: see text],...
An Invariant for Singular Knots
Journal of Knot Theory and Its Ramifications, 2009
In this paper we introduce a Jones-type invariant for singular knots, using a Markov trace on the Yokonuma–Hecke algebras Y d,n(u) and the theory of singular braids. The Yokonuma–Hecke algebras have a natural topological interpretation in the context of framed knots. Yet, we show that there is a homomorphism of the singular braid monoid SBn into the algebra Y d,n(u). Surprisingly, the trace does not normalize directly to yield a singular link invariant, so a condition must be imposed on the trace variables. Assuming this condition, the invariant satisfies a skein relation involving singular crossings, which arises from a quadratic relation in the algebra Y d,n(u).

We construct a new order 1 invariant for knot diagrams. We use it to determine the minimal number of Reidemeister moves needed to pass between certain pairs of knot diagrams.

We construct graph-valued analogues of the Kuperberg sl(3) and G2 invariants for virtual knots. The restriction of the sl(3) and G2 invariants for classical knots coincides with the usual Homflypt sl(3) invariant and G2 invariants. For virtual knots and graphs these invariants provide new graphical information that allows one to prove minimality theorems and to construct new invariants for free knots (unoriented and unlabeled Gauss codes taken up to abstract Reidemeister moves). A novel feature of this approach is that some knots are of sufficient complexity that they evaluate themselves in the sense that the invariant is the knot itself seen as a combinatorial structure. The paper generalizes these structures to virtual braids and discusses the relationship with the original Penrose bracket for graph colorings.
Skein module deformations of elementary moves on links
2002
This paper is based on my talks ("Skein modules with a cubic skein relation: properties and speculations" and "Symplectic structure on colorings, Lagrangian tangles and its applications") given in Kyoto (RIMS), September 11 and September 18 respectively, 2001. The first three sections closely follow the talks: starting from elementary moves on links and ending on applications to unknotting number motivated by a skein module deformation of a 3-move. The theory of skein modules is outlined in the problem section of these proceedings (see ).

A self-linking invariant of virtual knots
Fundamenta Mathematicae, 2004
This paper introduces a self-linking invariant for virtual knots and links, and relates this invariant to a state model called the binary bracket, and to a class of coloring problems for knots and links that include classical coloring problems for cubic graphs.
