Abstract
In this article I will look at one episode in the long history of the interaction between the Sanskrit and Tamil grammatical traditions and draw from it some — largely tentative — conclusions in the hope that they may help to cast some light on larger processes at work. The episode in question is quite a clear-cut case of conceptual borrowing.
