Enhancing AODV Routing Protocol to Eliminate Black Hole Attack in MANET
MANET is an open wireless system that includes several mobile nodes to form an arbitrary and temporary network. As the lack of infrastructure network, the mobile nodes send the routing packets to each other in the network when they want to communicate. So, the nodes use the routing protocols. However, as the lack of security mechanism of the routing protocols, MANETs are facing various severe attacks. Black hole attack is such types of attacks and can carry great damage to the network. As a result, an efficient and simple routing algorithm for MANET is very important. This paper presented a simple approach to find and eliminate the black hole attack for MANET. The proposed system slightly modifies ad hoc on-demand distance vector (AODV) routing protocol by adding two tables and packet type alarm. The proposed mechanism removes the malicious node and chooses the reliable node by using these tables. When the malicious node is detected, the proposed system is automatically sending out the alarm packets to all nodes in the network.
A Modified AODV Routing Protocol to Avoid Black Hole Attack in MANETs

Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) are composed of a set of stations (nodes) communicating through wireless channels, without any fixed backbone support in which nodes are allowed to join and leave the network at any point of time. MANETs are generally more vulnerable to information and physical security threats than wired networks, so security is an essential requirement in MANETs to provide secured communication between mobile nodes. One of the most common attacks against routing in MANETs is the Black Hole attack. A black hole is a malicious node uses the routing protocol to advertise itself as having the shortest path to the node whose packets it wants to intercept. In this paper, we attempt to focus on improving the security of one of the popular routing protocol for MANETS, namely the Ad hoc On Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol to avoid black hole attacks. The proposed Intrusion Avoidance System (IASAODV) can be considered as modification of the AODV protocol and can be used to detect and avoid the black hole attack. The conducted experimental results using Network Simulator NS-2.35 show an improvement in Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR), Normalized Routing Load (NRL) and throughput using the proposed protocol compared with AODV routing Protocol in the case of existing black hole attack.
A Survey on Security Solutions of AODV Routing Protocol against Black Hole Attack in MANET

Ad Hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol is among the efficient routing protocols in Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET). Because of its routing features AODV has gained popularity compared to other routing protocols, but this protocol lacks a security features which make it more vulnerable to malicious attack particularly black hole attack. A single or cooperate black hole attacks when present in a network can deny any packet from source to reach the destination. This paper aims at presenting the current existing security techniques that are used to prevent and detect the black hole attacks in MANET.

Black hole attack is a serious hazard, in this attack a malicious node add spoof route and advertise shortest path to destination node and absorbs all data packet in it. In this paper, we have surveyed and compare the existing solution to black hole attack on AODV protocol and their demerit.
Enhanced AODV Protocol for Detection and Prevention of Blackhole Attack in Mobile Ad Hoc Network
Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) is a kind of wireless network that has the most challenging network infrastructure. It is formed using the mobile nodes without any centralized administration from the security perspective and is a self-configuring fastest emerging wireless technology, each node on the MANET will act like a router which forwards the packets. Dynamic nature of this network makes routing protocols to play a prominent role in setting up efficient route among a pair of nodes. Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) and Ad-hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (ADOV) is a reactive MANET routing protocols. Most of the attacks on MANETs are routing protocol attacks. Attacks on routing protocols, especially internal attacks will cause the damage to MANETs. Sinkhole and black hole attacks a re a type of internal attack which is affected by attempting to draw all network traffic to malicious nodes that fake routing update and degrade the performance of the network. The black hole nodes should be detected from the network as early as possible via detection mechanism and should also guarantee the higher detection rate and less cross-over error rate. In this paper, we studied the characteristics of black hole attack and how it will affect the performance of the distance vector routing on demand routing protocol such as (ADOV) protocol, which recognizes the presence of black hole node from packet flow information between nodes and isolates it from the network via applying AODV protocol that one of popular routing protocol. We have evaluated the performance of the system using widely used simulator NS2, results prove the effectiveness of our prevention and detection method.
Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANETs) can be set up dynamically anywhere and anytime without the need of infrastructure. MANETs consists of a set of wireless nodes. These nodes move randomly and communicate with each other via a wireless communication links. MANETs routing protocols are vulnerable to several types of attacks, the most famous and common is Black Hole attack .This research simulate the behavior of Black Hole attack on Ad-hoc On-Demand Distance Vector (AODV) Routing Protocol using Network Simulator (NS2.35). Moreover, the black hole node(s) have been eliminated completely using the mechanism proposed in this research. The proposed approach is named as Anti-Black Hole Attack mechanism for AODV (ABHMAODV) Routing Protocol. The proposed mechanism maintains the performance of the protocol while handling Black Hole attacks.
A mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) is very receptive to security attacks due to its open medium, dynamically changing network topology, lack of centralized monitoring. These vulnerabilities are nature of MANET structure that cannot be removed. As a consequence, attacks with malicious intent have been and will be devised to exploit these vulnerabilities and to cripple MANET operations. One of the well known attack on the MANET is the Black Hole attack which is most common in the ondemand routing protocols such as AODV. A black hole attack refers to an attack by a malicious node, which forcibly gains the route from a source to a destination by the falsification of sequence number and hop count of the routing message. This paper represents an enhanced AOMDV routing protocol for avoiding black hole attack in MANET. This routing protocol uses Ad hoc On-demand Multipath Distance Vector (AOMDV) to form link disjoint multi-path during path discovery to provide better path selection in order to avoid malicious nodes in the path using legitimacy table maintained by each node in the network. Nonmalicious nodes steadily isolate the black hole nodes based on the values collected in their legitimacy table and avoid them while making path between source and destination. The effectiveness of our approach is illustrated by simulations conducted using network simulator ns-2.34.

Prevention for Black hole attack in MANET using AODV Protocol: Review
Black hole attack is one of the active DoS attacks possible in MANETs so has got lots of attention by the researchers. Research focus mainly given to securing existing routing protocols, developing new secure routing protocols, and intrusion detection techniques. Researchers have proposed various techniques to prevent black hole attack in mobile ad-hoc networks. Many studies on MANET focus on the protocols used their security issues such as data encryption, authentication, trust, and cooperation among nodes, attacks on the protocols and proposed solutions or preventions.
Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) are self organized networks whose nodes are free to move randomly while being able to communicate with each other without the help of an existing network infrastructure. MANETs are suitable for use in situations where any wired or wireless infrastructure is inaccessible, overloaded, damaged or destroyed such as emergency or rescue missions, disaster relief efforts and tactical battlefields, as well as civilian MANET situations, such as conferences and classrooms or in the research area like sensor networks.
