Unemployment in Algeria

2019

This paper aims to clarify the social process of unemployment, in Algeria. Anchored in sociological methodology, it stands on the descriptive method which combines historical approach with the quantitative instrument majorly. Its tool is the documental research. The problematic question here is: What are the social strata affected by unemployment in Algeria? The hypothesis studied here is: (a) Unemployment in Algeria affected women. (b) All social strata are affected by unemployment in Algeria. Our findings suggest that this study has shown areas of excellence and areas that need from the government improvement and focus, because the government efforts have contributed little to reducing high rates of unemployment. Despite the enormous potential of Algeria, successive governments didn’t adopt an economy relying on productivity which would benefit the population. The broad movements in unemployment across Algeria explain the shifts in labor market institutions which have a direct significant impact on unemployment because of their broad impact on real labor costs.

Employment Policies in Algeria

Our findings, through the use of survey data and administrative source pave the way for a critical discussion on the visibility of the labour market.

According to the report of the Central Bank of Tunisia (2009), the unemployment rate had reached 13.3% in 2009. This rate had steadily increased from 12.5% in 2006. This is one of the major challenges of the Tunisian economy and many countries of the MENA region. The unemployment rate for this category of young people has recently grown dramatically from 16.9% in 2006 to 21.9% in 2009. This rate is expected to rise in coming years despite all the arrangements made for young graduates to insert them into the labour market. To understand the determinants of this type of unemployment, the paper is based on the diagnosis of the situation through a synthesis of the key findings of surveys conducted in 2005 and 2007 on the promotion of graduates in 2004. This diagnosis was supported by an eco...

The Impact of Workforce on Industrialization in Algeria with the Existence of Expenditure in Education as a Variable Mediator from 1970 to 2014

African Educational Research Journal, 2017

This paper discusses the role of labor force in industrialization in Algeria by entering the spending in education as a mediator variable. From a theoretical point of view, there are good grounds for believing that labor force can play an important role in promoting industrialization, but if education had been incorporated in manufacturing, this will facilitate the conduct of manufacturing operations. At this, the authors will use the method of Path Analysis in order to calculate the impact of the labor force on industrialization in Algeria with the presence of education expenditure as a variable mediator during the period from 1970 to 2014. It is therefore concluded that education expenditure plays an important mediator role in the enhancement of workforce’s capacity to strengthen manufacturing in Algeria during the study period.
