The population densities of spider mites and their natural enemies on protected strawberries in Aydm province The aim of this study was to determine the population densities of spider mites and their natural enemies on protected strawberries in Aydin province. This study was conducted in Sultanhisar and neighborhood areas, which have a big potential for strawberry production, during the growing seasons of 2000, 2001 and 2002. Surveys were carried out in every fifteen days from August, when seedlings were planted, to February, when tunnels were covered with polyethylene nylon. Additional surveys were also conducted once a week from February to June, when the harvest was completed. The results of study indicated that the population dynamics of spider mites began to increase generally in February-March, reached the maximum in April-May and started to decrease in early June. In this study, population levels of natural enemies were also determined. It was found that the population level was not high enough for controlling spider mite, this probably due to excessive use of chemicals against spider mites in commercial strawberry fields in this region.
