The master's dissertation consists of an introduction, three chapters, conclusions to each chapter, general conclusions, and a list of references that includes 163 points and 11 applications. The paper amounts to 150 pages. One of the current problems of modern linguistic pragmatics is the study of the manipulative influence of humorous statements in public speeches of English-speaking politicians. Development of society is provoking more and more interest among scholars to study humor as a speech and social phenomenon covering linguopragmatic aspects of the humor functioning in English public speeches. The topicality is presented by the necessity of the complex study of humor in English public speeches with regard to their linguostylistic, linguopragmatic and translation specifics. The object of the study is an English public speech. The subject of the research is the linguistic and cultural features of the reproduction of the manipulative effect of humor in English public speeches by means of the Ukrainian language. The aim of the work is to identify the linguistic and cultural features of the reproduction of the manipulative effect of humor in English public speeches by means of the Ukrainian language through the study of linguistic and non-linguistic means of its implementation. Achieving this goal involves the solution of the following tasks: 1) to describe the concept of "public speech" and identify the main approaches to the classification of public speeches; 2) to provide a theoretical justification for the concept of "humor" and consider the main types of classification of humor; 3) to find out the linguistic and cultural features of English humor and the specifics of its translation; 4) to identify the main pragmatic aspects of the functioning of humor; 5) to analyze the means of expressing humorous statements in public speeches; 6 6) characterize the concepts of "communicative strategy" and "communicative tactics" and consider approaches to their classification; 7) to analyze the peculiarities of the functioning of communicative strategies and tactics in order to exercise manipulative influence on the material of texts of English public speeches; 8) to find out ways and means of expressing humor on the material of English public speeches in translation. The originality of the research lies in the comprehensive description of the implementation of linguistic and extralinguistic means of manipulative effect of humorous statements in public speeches and communicative strategies and tactics used in political speeches. The practical value of the research is that the study of humor and its translation specifics can be used in sociology, psychology, comparative linguistics, philosophy, pragmalinguistics. The obtained results can be used in covering the problems of translation of humorous statements in public speeches, as well as in writing scientific papers and as methodological materials in courses of text linguistics, psycholinguistics, linguoculturology, political science. The research material amounts to 335 fragments of public speeches, reflecting the linguopragmatic features of humor, and their translations into Ukrainian. Public speeches by politicians such as Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, Jeb Bush, George Walker Bush, and Barack Obama were used in the research. Research methods. To study the theoretical material, the method of analysis and synthesis was used to study the concept of humor and its main features. The structural method helped consider the system of both public speech and humorous utterance and define means and forms of its representation in language. The systematization method was used to create a classification of the main types of speeches and types of expression of humor in English public speeches. The analysis of different approaches to the classification of humor, its types, linguistic and extralinguistic means of expression was achieved with reference to the descriptive-comparative method and the method of induction. These methods were also used to describe the main approaches to the classification of 7 communication strategies and tactics. Quantitative analysis of the original and translated texts was used to determine the most common ways to reproduce the manipulative effect of humor in translation. Publications. The main statements and results of the dissertation research are presented in 3 publications, of which: 1 article in the scientific professional edition of Ukraine, 2 theses-in collections of materials of International scientific and practical conferences.
