The Role of Training and Development of Employees in Crisis Management in Nigerian Business Organizations

Crisis management requires a skilled, knowledgeable workforce with employees' who are adaptive, flexible, and focused on the future. The paper concentrates on training and development of employees as an effective weapon to control crisis in Nigerian business organizations. The survey research design was used for the study. The sample for the study comprised fifty (50) employers of labour and one hundred and fifty (150) employees. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire. Two research questions were posited for this study. Two hypotheses were formulated and tested at 0.05 level of significance. Crisis Management in Secondary School: The Roles of Stakeholders

It is very difficult to solve the educational crisis or problem with ease, particularly a dynamic society like Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State. Crisis incidents other forms of homicide cult case, sexual harassment, workplace violence or natural disasters which result or might result in death of staff, emergency service are trained to deal with such events on one level. But such service cannot have detailed knowledge of local context and needs and not having the resource to handle prevention and long term follow-up planning.

Personal, Social and Environmental Correlates of Sports Participation among Varsity Student-Athletes in Insurgency Ridden Areas of Northern Nigeria

Purpose: An understanding of the personal, social and environmental factors as correlates of sports participation among varsity athletes in insurgency ridden areas in Nigeria will allow for the optimizing of student-athletes participation and minimize morbidity. The purpose of this study was to discuss the personal, social and environmental factors that affect varsity student-athletes in northern Nigeria, an area ridden with insurgency for the past six years. Personal factors in this study include the demographic attributes of the student-athletes such as cognition, motives and interests. Social factors include parents, teammates, course mates, lecturers, coaches, media, policy, security and legislature. Environmental factors identified include weather, air quality, playing surfaces, proximity to safe facilities. There are evidence in research that demonstrates that sports programmes provides many positive benefits for students especially when sound educational policies and quality leadership are in place. There has been copious literature that supports the use of sports in improving personal, social and environmental factors of sport participants. Some of these include; improvement in motor skills, enhancement of normal physical, social growth and maturation, improvement of socialization, self-esteem, self-perception and psychological wellbeing. Method: Student-athletes (N= 637; male= 386 and females = 251). The mean ages of the student-athletes were (24 ± 1.2). These student-athletes were selected from the five (5) universities domiciled in the three states that are ridden with insurgency in the northern Nigeria. The student-athletes were sampled using the simple random sampling technique. Coaches in the respective universities served as research assistants and assisted in the collection of data for the study. The respondents were served a 57-item questionnaire that elicited information on personal, social and environmental factors as correlates of sports participation. Instrument's reliability index for personal factors (r= 0.92), social factors (r= 0.95) and environmental factors (r= 0.87) were ascertained using the Cronbach's alpha. A factor analysis using the principal component method of extraction with varimax rotation was performed on the student-athletes' rating of different subscales. Results: Data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (PPMC) with Correlation Matrix at 0.05 level of significance. Significant relationships were examined between personal factors and sports participation (r= .451, p <0.05); social factors and sports participation (r=.372) and no significant relationship between environmental factor and sports participation (r=.028). Furthermore, Multiple Regression was run on the three independent variables. The overall regression model was significant. Meaning there is significant relationship between personal, social and environmental factors in sports participation among student-athletes in Northern Nigeria Insurgency ridden areas. Sports participation by students is drastically affected by fear of attack by unknown persons on sport arena.

CRISIS MANAGEMENT IN PUBLIC SECTOR (A CASE STUDY OF ENUGU NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT, ENUGU

Since independence (196) till date, the Nigeria society has been undergoing transition with unavailable and unusual step by transformation process that effects all sectors of Nigeria society. The public sector organization been deliberately and hurriedly reformed to avoid the pit falls of the past. Recently, erratic decision are been made, new programmes are established and the old ones are re-established with new strategies in an effect to receive a new social order. In achieving this social order, a number of reforms are introduced into the public sector organizations and these (reforms) tend to be prone to one form of organizational crisis to another, regard to Nigeria public sector. These crises arise out of uncertainties or inadequacy of organizational resources. These could be as a result of power disorientation of employees in an organization and the employee rejection of management and authority's reform. Any such crisis is capable of disturbing the realization of the organization objectives. An important step is to ensure success in the realization of public sector organization and to understand the dynamics of crisis in public sector are always involved in the crisis management. In conclusion, we can see that there are no effective tools for crisis management in Nigeria public sector. For this singular reason, the Enugu North Local Government (ENLG) was chosen to give a clear picture of public sector organization whose administration have not been able to act as autonomous part of the central government in Nigeria. In this study, were have been able to identify few of the numerous crisis that could hit the ENLG and ranked them in the order to profitability in developing a crisis management more for use by organizations in the public sector of the Nigeria economy. The researcher used historical research, survey and descriptive static in computing the data for this study.

Competency Assessment on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Among Senior High School Students of Um Digos College

The Philippines is geographically located in the Pacific ring of fire, making the country one of the most vulnerable countries to natural disasters. With this, proper mitigations such as disaster preparedness and awareness among the citizens are essential to minimize the casualties whenever disaster strikes. Thus, this study aimed to assess Senior High School Students' competency level (SHS) on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) topics. A descriptive-comparative quantitative design was used to attain the objectives of the study. Moreover, an adopted questionnaire was used in this study. A total of twohundred twenty-two (222) Senior High School Students from the University of Mindanao-Digos participated in the survey. The study results revealed that Senior High School Students' DRRM competency level needs improvement and showed no significant differences when analyzed according to their grade level, strand, and age, except for the topic, "Application of DRRM Concepts," when analyzed by age. In contrast, it was found that there is a significant difference in students' competency according to their sex. Therefore, the findings of the study implied that there is a need for curriculum enhancement and training programs for teachers to address the gaps pertaining to DRRM.

Vocational Skill Development and the Reduction of Insecurity in Niger-Delta Region of Nigeria

This study sought to relate vocational skill development to reduction of insecurity in Nigeria. To achieve this, two research questions were raised and two null hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. A correlational survey design was adopted for the study. YOUTH AWARENESS AND EMPLOYMENT POTENTIALS OF SPORTS IN EBUTE METTA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF LAGOS STATE

Sports has proved to be an appropriate means to profitably engage the growing population of the unemployed youth as it provides variety of job opportunities. Hence, this paper examined youth awareness and employment potentials of sports in Ebute Mette Local Government Area of Lagos State. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 150 respondents from three geographical zones Ebute Mette Local Government Area. Stratified sampling technique was adopted to select sample for the study. A structured questionnaire drawn on a 4-point Likert scale was used to collect data from the respondents. The result showed that awareness of the youth of employment potentials of sports will reduces unemployment in Ebute Metta and that employment potentials in sports industries will significantly reduce unemployment in Ebute Metta. It was further established that professional sports career has substantial financial gain to influence the reduction of unemployment in Ebute Metta. Based on the findings, the study, it was concluded that a significant relationship exists between employment opportunity in sports industry and unemployment in Ebute Metta Local Government Area of Lagos State. Also, there is a significant relationship between employment opportunity in sports industry and unemployment in Ebute Metta Local Government Area of Lagos State. Therefore, the study recommended first, that sports career opportunities should be made accessible to the unemployed youth through community-based programmes. Secondly, the study recommended that the government, through the national and state association, should properly and objectively promote and market sports so as to lure private sectors to sponsor sporting events at grassroot. Finally, the study recommended that the government and all sporting bodies should identify strategies of engaging and empowering the unemployed through sports opportunities being made available to the youth.

Counsellors’ Competence in Managing School Related Crises in Southwestern Nigerian Universities, Nigeria
