Women Entrepreneurs in Bangladesh- Challenges and Determining Factors

The aim of this study is to find out the major challenges that hinder smooth operation of women entrepreneurs of Bangladesh. It also finds the reasons behind the success of the women entrepreneurship. Both primary and secondary data have been used to conduct the study. The questionnaire included questions about economic problems, family related issues, social constraints and other limitations faced by women entrepreneurs and the reasons behind their success. Women involved in various small and medium enterprises take on the challenge to work in a male-dominated society, competitive and complex economic and business environment. However, the identified challenges are inadequate capital, sales promotion, getting permission to start-up a business, gender discrimination, illiteracy and lack of knowledge among women, non-availability of training program and technical support, lack of managerial experience, in some cases young people make ill talk about the enterprise and so on. Personal qualities such as hard work and perseverance, management skills and marketing skills, support provided by their spouses or family are the main reasons behind the success of the women entrepreneurs. The level of participation of women in mainstream economic activities remains insufficient and the percentage of women in business is still much below than that of their male counterparts.

Factors Influencing the Development of Women Entrepreneurship in Bangladesh

The development of entrepreneurship in Bangladesh is very challenging and cumbersome especially for woman. It is barred by a number of factors concerned with social, economic, cultural, environmental, and personal in nature. Women who are enjoying favorable environment in this regard have the chance to be entrepreneurs. Hence, this study aims at identifying the factors that influence the development of women entrepreneurship in Bangladesh. The specific objective of this study is to identify the factors that help in developing women entrepreneurs especially in SME sector of Bangladesh. A thorough literature has been reviewed to identify the factors and based on it a model for the development of women entrepreneurship has been constructed. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were used in analyzing the data. Descriptive statistics were used to describe the situation and inferential statistics were used to identify the relationships among the factors. Factor analysis was conducted to separate the factors related to the development of women entrepreneurship while multiple regression analysis has been used to identify the significant factors related to it. The results show that there are eleven factors concerned with the development of women entrepreneurship in Bangladesh. The factors are: negotiation and bargaining skills, management of sales, self-awareness, long-term involvement in business, and training on business are significantly related to the overall development of women entrepreneurship in Bangladesh. This study suggests that the policymakers should focus more on the development of negotiation and management skills of the women entrepreneurs through different training programs that will also increase the awareness of the women entrepreneurs of Bangladesh.

Performance of Women Entrepreneurs in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) of Bangladesh

This study was cross-sectional research to find out the factors affecting the performance of women entrepreneurs in SMEs of Bangladesh. The specific objectives were to assess women entrepreneurs' business profiles and environmental facilities that affect the performance of their businesses. The performance of 375 women entrepreneurs was assessed in terms of capital invested, revenues earned, expenses incurred, profits made and employment growth. Face to face interviews and phone interviews were the predominant data collection method. In addition to this, the observation method was also used. The research found that women entrepreneurs were mostly young, married, literate, and experienced by ten to twenty years. They were involved mostly in sole proprietorship of small trades and services rather than in manufacturing. Most of them had been suffering from lack of starter capital, access to the capital market, collateral financing, theoretical knowledge, ICT skilled manpower, and organizational supports. The environmental factors were found to have adverse effects on their entrepreneurial success and most of the women entrepreneurs were found dismayed over the political situation, legislation and tax issues. Nonetheless, women entrepreneurs were found to be playing significant roles in reducing poverty and unemployment despite their struggle to balance business, social and personal lives.

Measuring the Factors of Problems to Develop Women Entrepreneurs in Bangladesh

The study is descriptive in nature and attempts to identify the factors of problems to develop women entrepreneurs in Bangladesh. More women entrepreneurs are getting involved in economic activities of the country especially in the small scale of business and more or less they are playing a significant role to boost up our economy. But, they have faced different problems where all of the problems nature is not same. As the nature of their problems we have tried to find out the different dimension of their problems. Paucity of fund is one of the major problems along with lacking of knowledge, lacking of sufficient information are other mentionable problems. Besides, institutional support from different government and non-government institutions is insufficient for development and growth of women entrepreneur. To accomplish the objective of the study primary data, based on structured survey questionnaire, were collected from 100 successful woman entrepreneur of Bangladesh. Considering the importance of women entrepreneurship issue, Government, donor agencies, NGOs, business community and all other relevant stakeholders should give a special emphasis through different interventions to ensure increased women's participation in formal economic sectors, especially in business and industry and promote women entrepreneurship in Bangladesh. This study will help us to find out the factors of their problems which will guide us to take necessary steps to overcome those problems. The Economic and Socio-Cultural Factors Affecting Performance of Women Entrepreneurs in Bangladesh: An Exploratory Study on Cumilla City

This study was designed to assess the economic and socio-cultural factors that affect the performance of women entrepreneurs of Cumilla city as well as Bangladesh. This article attempts to examine the small enterprise in three regions (Dhaka, Chittagong and Rangpur) of Bangladesh at two levels: the individual and the enterprise. This paper aims to investigate the constraints female entrepreneurs face during their initial stage and continued operation of their business, and the work-family conflicts they face. Women entrepreneurship has been gaining a prominent awareness among policymakers in contemporary economics, as it can hasten the rate of technological advancement and economic progress. The objective of this study is to determine the influencing factors of women’s entrepreneurial performance in a developing country like Bangladesh. "ENHANCING WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS' PERFORMANCE OF MICRO AND SMALL ENTERPRISES IN BANGLADESH: MEDIATING VARIABLE IS ENTREPRENEURIAL COMPETENCY."

This study aimed to analyze factors impacting women's success in micro and small businesses in Bangladesh and so add to the body of knowledge on entrepreneurship, particularly in developing nations. The study adopted a cross-sectional questionnaire to collect primary data as segment of an explanatory research design, which was then followed by a quantitative research strategy. 250 women entrepreneurs were randomly selected as a sample for the study. The results of this study showed that, on the one hand, entrepreneurial motivation, entrepreneurial orientation, adoption of technology, favorable framework conditions and state support are important for optimizing the performance of women in small industries in Bangladesh. On the other hand, access to finance turns out to be insignificant for the development of women's entrepreneurial capacity. Entrepreneurial competence is proving to be significant in increasing the business performance of women in Bangladesh. The study might be used as information by officials to take these aspects into account, promote an environment that helps women entrepreneurs perform better, and encourage women entrepreneurs to address the problems that are affecting performance and take steps to improve it.

Profit Influential Factors of Women Entrepreneurs’ Enterprises: A Case Study in Sylhet City, Bangladesh

In recent years, women-owned businesses have experienced rapid growth in certain industries of the world including Bangladesh. Entrepreneurship is an economic activity which is undertaken by an individual or group of individuals. Women are a part of the nation's manpower. This manpower of Bangladesh has already shown its immense potential in different socioeconomic sectors. The purpose of the study is to investigate the available support services & factors those affect the profit earned by female entrepreneurs. In this study, data were collected from different areas in Sylhet City of Bangladesh and used the Pearson's correlation since the questionnaires were employed to collect primary data from the field. The major finding of the study is training, easy finance in start up, family support are the major influential factors those affect profit of women entrepreneur's enterprises. The study also finds specific obstacles to women's entrepreneurship in Sylhet city: type of education, lack of role models in entrepreneurship, gendering of entrepreneurship, weak social status, competing demands on time and access to finance. Based on these findings, policy makers can increase the ability of women to participate in the work place. More generally, improving the contribution of financial institutions will expand benefits in terms of women's entrepreneurship in Sylhet city as well as in Bangladesh.

Motivational factors and the constraints of women entrepreneurship development in Bangladesh

The participation of women in business is now a contemporary issue through worldwide. This study was conducted on Bangladesh perspective for analyzing the empowering of women through entrepreneurship development. As women are bleaker in Bangladeshi they need monetary access to get respective position in family and society. This study has tried to find out the motivational factors to be an entrepreneur and the constraints that hinder their entrepreneurial abilities. To find out a justified result the study was based on both primary and secondary data. However the factors that have been revealed as a motivational tool for women entrepreneurs are helping husband, financial independence, availability of loan, social position, family support, creativity development, helping society etc. Beside that the de-motivating elements are less capital, limited market access, unavailability of raw material, lack of education and training, social value constraints etc. After justifying the situation of women entrepreneurs some recommendation has come up with practical solution.
