Examining the Teachers, Administrators and Parents’ View on Drawbacks of Technology Use in Education

As the growth of technology application in the classroom continues to grow, educators and researchers speculate as to how effective the use of technology is. Over time, several researchers have done studies, and conducted observations on technological aids and devices being used in the classroom. Some results were measurable, and others observable, but mixed results were found. The current research explores the drawbacks of using the technology in education. The purpose of this study is: to show the negative effects of using technology in teaching, to see and understand opinions, experiences, and perceptions of teachers, administrators and parents with educational technologies, and to draw conclusions on the drawbacks of using technology. The research is carried out through mixed methods, respectively quantitative and qualitative methods. Quantitative data collection includes questionnaires prepared for: teachers, administrators and parents. The teacher questionnaire contains 5 questions, the questionnaire for administrators 5 questions and the parent's questionnaire 5 questions as well. The research includes 70 teachers throughout Kosova and 10 administrators of Kosova elementary schools and 60 parents whose children attend the elementary schools where the research was carried out. The results from this research indicate that the use of technology has a positive effect because it encourages students to acquire new knowledge in almost all subjects. However, it is believed that using technology has also its drawbacks. Technology can disconnect students from social interactions, it can distract students from learning, interpersonal interactions are few and far between, it is a resource that not all families can afford, it can create issues of privacy, it can make it easier to cheat etc.

This study seeks to understand the effects of technology on education: teaching and learning. All the data used in this study comes from secondary sources. Information was gathered from several sources, including peer-reviewed journal papers, published and unpublished dissertations, online and print textbooks, and encyclopaedias. Findings: Evidence on the effects of technology is contradictory, according to a review of the relevant literature. Thanks to information technology developments, classroom collaboration between teachers and students is more efficient than ever. It broadens their academic and intellectual horizons, making students more versatile in the classroom. Due to the internet's accessibility, remote learning may now be supported by technological means. Students can use search engines to conduct research. Hardware failures, software incompatibilities between home and school, or non-existent internet connections, and outdated program versions are just some of the dependability problems that students and teachers face in the classroom. Technology and its impact in the classroom
Recent findings have shown that at-risk students in grades k-12 are being deprived of challenges and of the chance to use complex thinking skills. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect that the level of computer technology use in the classroom has on at-risk students' grades and attendance. A teacher technology survey is used to measure teacher use, student use and overall use of technology in the classrooms. The sample for this study consists of teachers from a Northwest Ohio high school. Results of the study indicate that teachers' technology use, students' technology use, and overall technology use have no significant positive effect on the grades and attendance of at-risk students. In addition the study finds that technology use is low among the teachers in the sample. These results suggest that for technology to be effective and make changes in at-risk students' grades and attendance, schools must be prepared for technology use in the classroom. Leaders need to develop a model that would include a shared vision, entire school community involvement, specific training for staff and time for the training, a full time technology director and time for the staff to communicate and share among peers for technology to be an effective tool in the classroom curriculum. #

The Impact of Digital Technologies on the Elementary School Classroom

This paper examines the impact of digital technologies on an elementary school classroom. The following topics are addressed: (1) how classrooms were physically adjusted to incorporate new digital technologies; (2) the context and content areas in which students used these technologies, based on observation, teacher interviews, and teacher responses to a final survey; (3) and teacher and student attitudes towards increasing use of digital technologies in the classroom. Teachers used computer-assisted instruc .on in nearly all subject areas for drill and practice, simulations, and word processing. The teachers felt that students responded positively to instructional activities on the computers. Students liked working on their own with the computers; they specifically liked using computers for games, iaformation searcl.es, programs that rewarded a good score on a drill by a playing a game, and looking up definitions while reading. When asked how to improve instructional applications of technology in the classroom, teachers suggested more computers, more training, and more software. Based on this observation of the school, within a supportive and collaborative environment, it is concluded that teachers are interested in using digital technologies in their classrooms. Until relatively recently, the norm in a school, high school or university class was for the teacher to enter the classroom and begin to give the lesson with a view to a theoretical exam. This is known as teaching or rote learning. The student must retain in memory the knowledge on which he is going to be examined after some time. But with the massive integration of Digital Technology (DT) today, which is very present in almost all areas of life, this methodology is becoming somewhat outdated (1). This does not mean that it is necessarily obsolete, but that it must be adapted to the circumstances prevailing in today's world. But all change entails risks, and in some cases, these can get out of hand. We must learn to coexist with technological progress without it having a pitiful impact on the most sensitive fiber of society and on the most economically disadvantaged sectors. A balance must be sought between technology and education so that they do not harm each other.

Technology in the Classroom: Implications on Education, the Educated, and Educators The interrogation into the implications of technological pervasiveness on educational practice from the perspective of teacher and student remains volatile territory in which research is often prohibited as it occurs within the very institution it seeks to critique. With a broader push for technology integration into secondary and post-secondary classrooms, such interrogations become increasingly necessary prior questions and help to justify, explain, and predict the effects of such integration. Using a theoretical interpretation of American education system development, this analysis seeks to initiate such interrogation through a critical application of Jean Baudrillard’s theory of simulations to two independent studies conducted on educators in order to reach a stark conclusion about the true reality of technology in the classroom.
