Basic skills that to be possessed by a research person

The aim of this study was to identify the basic skills expected of researchers in the public and private sectors. In order to identify the skills, a postal survey questionnaire was designed, including the main basic skills. The questionnaire was sent to the heads of the research sections of 150 purposefully selected public sector organizations and 100 purposefully selected private sector organizations. There were variations in the observed facts and skills of the researchers at the responding institutions. Chisquare analysis showed that there were significant (P<0.05) associations between the two sectors and industries that the organizations are involved in. The educational qualifications, selected computer packages, and English knowledge were significantly associated. There was a significant relationship between the two sectors and the research person's skills. The need for computer literacy for the researchers and skills on basic research techniques had no significant association with the sectors. The study revealed that basic skills such as research design, data collection, data analysis, report writing, seminar presentations, literature studies, and basic computing skills related to these activities are expected of research personnel in both public and private sector organizations involved in manufacturing, selling, education, research and development, public service, consulting, electronic media, housing, advertising, management, and financing industries and services. Therefore, these can be included in a curriculum designed to provide basic training for the researchers. Finally, the research skills among the researchers in both sectors were low.

Soft skills refer to a broad set of skills, competencies, behaviors, attitudes, and personal qualities that enable the person to interact and present effectively, work well with others, perform well, and achieve their goals. These skills are broadly applicable and essential as these complement other skills such as technical, vocational and academic skills. 2. BENEFITS OF THE SOFT SKILLS: In today's era soft skills plays major role for the organizational growth and sustainability, without these the organization is unable to move and develop. The individuals having the tact of handling the situations with a good communication and capability can lead to the development of whole enterprises. When an employer is self motivated and is able to understand the problems of the employees than he can easily make them satisfied and relax apart from the various disturbances. People will prefer the one who is pleasant enough and is willing to listen to you and is able to answer firmly without impatience and anger. Ethics, emotional intelligence and positive attitude keep a person intact & help in moving ahead on the path of career. Individuals and organizations must be smart enough to develop and utilize new soft skills by providing training in order to maintain the competitive level.

Advancement in technology has brought about a great change in the life of human beings. The need to form meaningful connections with others has never been felt so much as in this present age. Ironically distance between geographical boundaries have been reduced due to the electronic media but the same kind of closeness has not been witnessed in human connections. Conversations are the lifelines to nourish relations but through the electronic mode of instant gratification, real connections are now disappearing. Nevertheless, the dynamic professional and social set up needs such tools to communicate that can reduce the chasms separating interpersonal communication. The awareness of this need has brought about a whole lot of change in not only professional field but also personal field. The present century needs a whole new set of skills to make communications meaningful and connections more fruitful. This study takes into account latest research that suggest how crucial soft skills are to save our communication from becoming extinct in the present scenario. The thrust of the paper is on core soft skills which will be instrumental in defining success in personal and professional area. The study is based on literature review and psychological research that leads to study the required traits for a balanced work-life situation. The study is based on literature reviews and its findings. In the conclusion some suggestions to enhance soft skills are also pointed out.

According to studies, workers at the workplaces must learn soft skills in addition to their domain knowledge that can help them advance in their careers. Soft skills are essential for a successful career and also for social interaction. These skills are highly valued by employers looking to recruit new graduates too. The primary aim of this study was to assess how students viewed soft skills in relation to their education and employment. This paper suggests several methods for improving students' soft skills that can aid in their careers.
