Attitude towards language is a construct that explains linguistic behaviour in particular. Attitude is one of the key elements for learning a language (Starks, D. & Paltridge B. 1996), (Karahan, 2007). Attitude is a variable thing and it can be viewed from various dimensions and its relation with language learning can be measured in numerous ways as well. Attitude can also be changed governing to many external as well internal personality factors of a person. Wenden gives a new dimension to attitude concept by dividing into three elements, namely: cognitive, evaluative and behavioral which all works together (Wenden 1991) while learning a language. Later on, Ladegaard points out mainly three factors of an attitude that affects language learning the most. They are ‘knowledge’, ‘emotion’, and ‘behaviour’ (Ladegaard 2000). Each factor has different recognizable parameters and experiment to elicit attitude changes and results of English language learning. The present study seeks to explore how these factors and parameters of attitude affect the essential language learning of English Medium High School Students of ‘Bengali’ Origin

Participants showed negative attitudes towards English in term of behavioral and cognitive attitudes, while showed positive attitudes in term of cognitive aspects .The researcher has found out through her research that this might be the main cause of their low aptitudes in English because the cognitive abilities might not be achieved unless learners hold positive behavioral attitudes and relish procuring particular language .The researcher has presented data through the exhibition of tables and graphs .The collected data has been detailed, tabulated and shown graphically with the help of bar charts. Future research must modify the research strategy, taking into consideration the limitation of the study.
Language Attitude and English Language Learning in Pakistan
The arrival of English language in India had many facets of its influence on society but the linguistic impression has been an everlasting one. Even after 69 years of independence, proficiency in English is considered a symbol and a benchmark of high social status and professional competence. At the same time, a Pakistani variety of English language has evolved. The class-ridden society has different attitudes towards English language on the basis of their social and economic standing. The same is reflected in ELT classrooms, where English language is taught with different objectives using different methods, techniques and materials.

The research paper aims at studying the attitudes of the students of Islamic Learning and Education Faculty towards English at the University of Karachi. It is based on testing the hypothesis that the students of Islamic Learning Faculty have less positive attitudes towards English as compared to the students of Education faculty through a survey on first year students of both faculties. A five-point Likert scale was used to conduct a survey on 151 students of the Islamic Learning faculty and 135 students of the Education faculty. The results were calculated using an independent t-test and standard deviation which reveals that there is a minor difference in the attitudes of the student of both faculties. The students of the Education faculty showed more positive attitudes when asked about the importance of English as compared to the attitudes of the students of Islamic Learning Faculty. However, the difference in their attitude is negligible. As the results reveal a minor association between the attitudes of the learners and their faculty, the study; therefore, proves the null hypothesis which says that there is no significant difference between the attitudes of the students of both the faculties.

This causes them to be unwilling to learn English and develop target language skills. The researcher made use a questionnaire to obtain data about the learners' attitudes and analyse them. The random sampling technique was used. All the first-and second-year students at English department of the college in Private Universities were selected randomly for the study. The English department had 214 first-and secondyear students. The study revealed the fact that students have negative attitudes towards learning English in terms of emotional, behavioural and cognitive aspects. Thus, the first hypothesis is supported. As there is a statistically significant difference in Private Universities students' attitudes towards learning English language by gender, the second hypothesis is supported. The third hypothesis is supported by the fact that there is a statistically significant difference in Private Universities students' attitudes towards learning English language according to the duration of the study. According to the correlation test, the researcher came to the conclusion that there is correlation between three attitude factors: cognitive, behavioural and emotional. According to the correlation test, the researcher found out that cognitive has negative correlation (r=.-.249 **, p<0.01) with Behaviour. Concerning the negative of the linear relationship is moderately strong between cognitive and behaviour, cognitive has negative correlation (r=.-.330 **, p<0.01) with Emotional.
