IT CAPABILITIES ON SUPPLY CHAIN PERFORMANCE: MEDIATING ROLE OF SUPPLY CHAIN AGILITY

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the IT capabilities affecting supply chain performance, explore the relationship among those identified capabilities to supply chain performance and, explore the mediating factors to the relationship with special reference to large manufacturing organizations in Sri Lanka. Systematic random sampling technique was applied as the sampling technique of the study. 200 questionnaires were distributed among executives in large manufacturing organizations to collect the primary data and 160 were used for the analysis. Gathered data were analyzed by SPSS software. Findings: Under the IT Capabilities, Flexible IT Infrastructure and IT Assimilation have a weak positive relationship with supply chain performance while strong positive relationship with supply chain agility. Supply chain agility has a direct strong positive relationship with supply chain performance and it is mediating the relationship between IT capabilities and Supply Chain Performance. 141 importance of considering supply chain agility as a mediator rather than using only IT applications or infrastructure. No research can be found in Sri Lankan context that explore the factors affecting IT capabilities and Supply chain performance relationship. Practical Implications: Future studies are possible to conduct surveys in different angles using various control variables. Comparison of factors between different industries will provide more insights for the practitioners and as well as the researchers on the study variables.

In complex business environment, most firms are facing pressures to respond proactively to the environmental factors rapidly and be innovative and effective in order to survive. Therefore, organizations are required to be agile, and have the right information at the right time to make better decisions. In this paper, we examine the linkage between information technology practices (ITP) and supply chain agility (SCA). This study also analyzes the moderating role of market, firm and supply chain factors on the relationship between ITP and SCA. The data collection instrument used was a questionnaire which was administrated to a total sample of 500 respondents from food and beverages industry in peninsular Malaysia. The number of questionnaire collected was only 130 (26%) and the number of usable questionnaire was 100 (20%). The analyses involved statistical methods such as reliability and validity tests, correlation analysis and multiple regressions. The result suggested that ITP have positive impact on SCA. These findings suggest that firm should consider ITP that can improve SCA.
Impact of supply chain risk on agility performance: Mediating role of supply chain integration

Supply chain literature highlights the importance of agility performance for firms facing supply chain risk. However, the literature explaining the ways in which companies facing supply chain risk organize the key elements of their supply chain to enhance agility performance provides space for more research. We use dynamic capabilities view to explain why supply chain risk may motivate companies integrate their supply chain to enhance agility performance. Structural equation modelling is used to test the hypotheses using data of 770 manufacturing companies obtained from the sixth version of International Manufacturing Strategy Survey. Empirical examination provides evidence that (a) a firm's supply chain risk has positive association with supplier and customer integration, (b) supplier, internal, and customer integration have positive impact on agility performance, though the impact of internal integration is weak, (c) supplier and customer integration mediate the relationship between a firm's supply chain risk and agility performance, and (d) supplier and customer integration mediate the relationship between internal integration and agility performance. The findings of this paper suggest that companies cope with supply chain risk by using integrative practices with suppliers and customers that enhance agility performance. Internal integration is the foundation for building up supplier and customer integration for agility performance. Future research may examine these relationships over time and in different industries and contexts.
Purpose-This study investigates the impact of environmental uncertainty and organizational ambidexterity on supply chain integration and its relationship between supply chain agility and organizational flexibility in the manufacturing firms. Design/methodology/approach-The data were collected from 526 managers in services and manufacturing industry in Kuala Lumpur. The partial least square (SmartPLS 3.0) tool was applied through the use of the structural equation modeling (SEM) technique. Findings-The results revealed that a strong relationship exist between environmental uncertainty and supply chain integrations including customer, supplier and internal integration. Organizational ambidexterity has a significant relationship with supply chain integration. Supply chain integrations were shown to have a positive impact on the firm's supply chain agility and organizational flexibility. Originality/value-The findings may assist to establish a set of key drivers for enhancing supply chain agility and organizational flexibility as a supply chain management initiative in the manufacturing and service industry.

Supply chain integration (SCI) has been widely discussed area in supply chain literature. Based on extended resource based view (RBV), and resource orchestration theory (ROT), our study was conducted to analyze the effects of SCI (i.e. information integration, process integration and measurement integration) on firm's performance (i.e. operational, business) in service industries in Pakistan. In addition, we investigate the contingency effect of IT use (i.e. Transaction management, order delivery and customer services, planning & control) on the relationship of integrative Supply chain practices and firm's performance. We follow step wise hierarchical regression approach by pair wise comparison of performance effect of IT use and each dimension of SCI. Survey data were collected from a sample of firms in food, hospitality, fashion, telecom, IT and retail industries in Pakistan. The empirical results indicate that IT use strengthen the effects of SCI on firm's performance by significantly moderating the aforementioned relationship. The results demonstrate best model fitted with pair wise interaction between IT use and SCI mechanisms. The study contributes to supply chain literature by analyzing pivotal role of IT use in integrating various supply chain activities in B2 B and B2 C markets. The research has implications for retail managers, service supply chain planners and distribution companies to use IT in integrating supply chain and materializing performance.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between information systems and supply chain agility in service industry. Using a sample of 96 (N= 96) top, middle and lower level staff of the Technical University of Kenya and a case study design, the research is conducted through interviews and survey by use of interview guides and questionnaires to collect data from the respondents. Interviews were carried out with top management in the supply chain and surveys from both the middle and lower level managers across Information systems and supply chain management-related departments. The data collected was analysed descriptively and inferentially using regression and confirmatory factors analyses through the Statistical Package for Social Sciences. The study was augmented by investigating the role of IS competence to achieve supply chain agility. A gap noted and filled by the study is that as to date most of the published literature in this stream of research has mainly focused on manufacturing industry leaving out the service industry. This research was an attempt to examine and analyze the use and value of IT enabled capabilities to promote supply chain agility in service industry. Agility capabilities are the strengths the firm needs in order to respond to the environment that are enabled through the agility providers of the organizations, people, technology and innovation. The study findings concurred with the views of most scholars that Information Systems (IS) have rapidly reshaped business processes and supply chain agility as an operational strategy, has been especially affected. From the F statistic test value of 26.551 and a small significance value of 0.000 that is P = 0.000 > α = 0.05, indicates that there is a regression relationship between the dependent variable (supply chain agility) and the predictor variables. For instance the study supports the importance of information systems service competence based on low response time to IS problems to enhance speed and efficiency and management skills based on network management enhancing collaborative abilities, data centre management to enhance virtual integration and contributing to quick service delivery in the context of supply chain agility. The R Square value of 0.956 shows that the variables account for 95.6% of the change in supply chain agility. From findings it can be concluded that IT Service Competence affects supply chain agility more in the institution followed by IT Services Management Skills as measured by the various items under each predictor.

The link between agile supply chain dimensions and business performance in the Iranian service industry is assessed in this study. A questionnaire covering important agility criteria identified in the literature was designed and administered to a sample of 420 managers and users of supply chain in service providers. The response rate achieved was 16%. Validity and reliability were statistically tested. Line regression analysis was also used and all tests confirm normal distribution of data. By testing the full supply chain related with agile practices, the findings indicated there was a significant connection between supply chain agility and business performance such as user satisfactions, information systems and advertisement.
