Collaborative Project Management Software
Project Management (PM) principles are rapidly changing due to business globalization and information technology (IT) advances which support distributed and virtual project teams. Traditional PM focuses on a single project at a single location and is more concerned with project inputs and outputs than with the project work itself . Traditional PM emphasizes scheduling, planning and tracking . The PM paradigm has begun to shift due to the increasing number of distributed projects involving team members from different sites, organizations, and cultures . Current and future PM will be more concerned with project work and processes, and collaboration will become essential for success. Academics and practitioners have begun to discuss project management in terms of collaboration; however, there is little agreement as to a definition or interpretation of collaboration.
An Application to Select Collaborative Project Management Software Tools

In an increasingly competitive market the use of project management techniques can help controlling scope, time, and cost in an efficient way. Either due to size or complexity that may exist in a project, it may be essential to use project management software tools. Some projects involve teams of people who may be geographically dispersed, being essential to exchange information among project stakeholders, hence the need for collaborative tools, best known as groupware. In this paper, we present an overview of project management and collaborative project management techniques and tools. Next, we present a framework, based on ISO 9126 and ISO 14598, to classify collaborative project management software tools. Finally, we present a model and an application to help on the selection of this type of tools.
Software Tools for Project Management – Focus on Collaborative Management

Today, projects involve members from different geographical areas more than any other time in history. Thus, adequate Collaborative Project Management Software (CollabPMS) solutions are needed to enable individuals and organizations to manage, communicate and work together across time and space barriers. This article describes a set of managerial and collaborative functionalities that a CollabPMS should provide to support the complexities of a distributed project effectively. Out of hundreds software packages available in the market, four were selected, ProjectLibre, Redmine, Microsoft Project 2013 and Clarizen, to assess if they have the described functionalities. Clarizen can be considered the best software for managing distributed projects, because it provides, by default, all the managerial functions and the collaborative features that support the coordinated collaboration level. ProjectLibre was the software that less stood out in this evaluation, although it provides the majority of the outlined managerial functionalities it doesn't support any level of collaboration.

This paper presents an approach for collaborative project management. The focus is on the support of collaboration, communication and trust. Several project management tools exist for monitoring and control the performance of project tasks. However, support of important intangible assets is more difficult to find. In the paper a leadership approach is identified as a management means and the use of new IT technology, especially social media for support of leadership in project management is discussed.

Research Project Management Process, implies the allocation of important human and financial resources to guarantee fulfilling of the goal by respecting the pre-defined schedule, under the conditions of expected quality. Considering that, informatics is looking for solutions to support the teams to develop complex projects. In this paper we propose a new software for project management, along with a new approach but at the same time complying to the requests formulated by the TenStep methodology. This application software, manages schedule, changes, quality control, risk and budget for the projects. Research Project Management -RPM software is our proposal for a complete integration of all project management processes in a unique application that offers procedures to coordinate people and activities in a project. It will help during the phase of design and supervise of a project, as well as changing the initial configuration when the project doesn't develop as planned.

Traditional PM focuses on a single project at a single location according to R. Evaristo and PC van Fenema (1999) and is more concerned with project inputs and outputs than with project process by JR Turner (2000). Management in the past implied projects were conducted with a top down view by KJ Cleetus et al.(1996).
Project Management Software-An Overview
Project management software is a term covering vast types of software, including estimation and planning, scheduling, cost control and budget management, resource allocation, collaboration software, communication, quality management and documentation or administration systems, which are used to deal with the complexity and different aspects of large projects. Since the project management is one of the core functions of a business organization, the project management function should be supported by software. Before software was born, project management was fully done through papers. This eventually produced a lot of paper documents and searching through them for information which was not a pleasant experience. Once software came available for an affordable cost for the business organizations, software development companies started developing project management software. This became quite popular among all the industries and these software were quickly adopted by the project management community.

Project Management is an application area well supported and covered by on the market software and open source solutions. However the focus has been on intra enterprise solutions. Innovative and internet based solutions are needed to promote project management, especially for distributed organizations, not so well covered by existing solutions. Large scale engineering projects are typical examples of distributed projects. The COIN project has identified requirements for development in the area of Collaborative Project Management. Future success in large engineering projects builds on the combination of two paradigms; fully automated and IT supported engineering process and totally networked and efficient global operation. The COIN project develops a Project Alignment Booster for Shared project management and Delegated management responsibility.
