Human resource management and firm performance
2012
This research has focuses on human resource management and its relation to firm's performance. This issue causes the interest of many academics and business executives. Most studies suggest that human resource management is related to firm performance, although many researchers believe that matter is still debateable. The purpose of this research is to present the modern concept of human resources management, to express the scholars' views whether human resource management can affect firm's performance and to explore this relation in the Greek business sector. The survey was based on the model of Beatty, Huselid and Schneier and the data collection was conducted by using a questionnaire. The results showed the progress of Greek businesses regarding how their human resource are managed and the alignment of human resources management (skills, practices, systems) with firm's strategy. Despite this, it is noticed that the factor human resource management it is not clearl...
Econometrics and Healthcare – the Model of the Greek National Primary Healthcare Network (Pedy)

Introduction: Nowadays, the development of econometric techniques has important applications in the health sector. Econometrics facilitates the understanding of the environment where health agencies function so that they can make decisions in order to improve their performance. Moreover, the evaluation of the efficiency of health organizations contributes to the health system. This study included
Impact of Supply Chain Integration on Business Performance: A Review
2022
The present study attempts to confirm and expand the existing theory in the field of Manufacturing Strategy. A conceptual framework that examines the relationship between supply chain, manufacturing-based competitive capabilities, strategic alignment and business performance is developed, based on a synthesis of previous theoretical and empirical studies. The validity of the conceptual framework is tested, using a newly developed questionnaire, in a sample of 131 companies that operate in the Greek manufacturing sector of foods and beverages. The empirical data are analyzed using the "Structural Equation Modeling" technique. The results contribute in the existing scientific knowledge in two ways: (a) they demonstrate the direct and positive effect of the supply chain and the strategic alignment on the competitive capabilities and business performance, and (b) they underline the key role of the competitive capabilities in mediating the above relationships. Finally, a number of important managerial implications are discussed, while the main study limitations and suggestions for future research are highlighted.

Knowledge Management (KM) is a contemporary research field of high interest for both academics and practitioners. For more than 15 years, successful companies have used KM as their most valuable source of competitive advantage. The present study attempts to confirm, analyze and extend the existing empirical approaches, by focusing on the process of knowledge management and its diffusion throughout the organisation. The newly developed conceptual framework adopts a four step approach, highlighting four areas of interest that have never been collectively examined before: (a) knowledge antecedents (innovativeness, inter-functional coordination, organisational climate), (b) knowledge management process (socialization, externalization, internalization, combination), (c) knowledge management outcomes (KM satisfaction) and (d) organizational outcomes (organizational commitment, job satisfaction, job performance). The proposed conceptual framework was tested, with the use of a structured qu...
Διαχείριση υγείας και ασφάλειας στις επιχειρήσεις εξόρυξης μαρμάρου στην Ελλάδα και διεθνώς

The Greek marble quarrying industry is characterised by its rich history, its long term sustainability and by the reputation of its products in the international market. The quarrying operations of ornamental and building stones, in case of non-implementation of prevention measures and measures for the protection of the safety and health of workers, have a high degree of risk, which proves the inextricable link between the viability of the industry and the wider field of occupational safety and health. The object of the present diploma thesis is the analysis of this connection through the combination of bibliographic and research approach. The first chapter provides a historical overview, firstly of the broader field of occupational safety and health and then of the field of metallurgy and mining technology, and introduces basic concepts of safety and health in the mining sector. In the second chapter, certain aspects of safety and health are analysed in depth, Greek and international data are presented and the correlation of the health and safety sector with the principles of sustainable development is studied. In the third chapter, the marble industry, as well as the exploitation methods and the performance indicators of the Greek industry are elaborately presented. The fourth chapter categorises and describes the main types of hazards encountered in marble quarries. The fifth chapter attempts to present a series of findings from studies carried out in countries outside the European Union regarding the hazards associated with working in marble quarries. The sixth chapter introduces the data collection methodology regarding the performance indicators of the Greek marble quarries, while the seventh chapter presents and analyses the answers obtained from the above method. The epilogue of the thesis is presented in the eighth chapter, through the conclusions and the proposal for future research involving the safety and health management in marble quarries.
New Product Development Process and the factors that affect its Performance
The implementation of new product development (NPD) models can improve firms' competitiveness. In this paper, the factors that form an effective new product development model and inhibit its effective implementation are presented. Further, any changes in firm's environment derived from the implementation of an NPD model are also identified. Data from 230 firms was used to statistically test the proposed model. Confirmatory factor analysis, regression analysis and reliability tests were performed to examine the consistency and adequacy of the data. The results of this research do not confirm the traditional relationship between management involvement and the new product development roadmap. In fact, the most significant factors that mediate this relationship are culture, strategy and the personnel's ability. Approaches that improve manufacturing firms' performance via machinery investments
2012
In recent years, numerous approaches have been proposed to improve operations performance. Three in particular, just in time, supply chain management, quality management, and environmental management have received considerable attention. While the three are sometimes viewed and implemented as if they were independent and distinct, they can also be used as different prongs of an integrated operations strategy. This study empirically examines the extent to which just in time, supply chain management, and quality management are correlated, and how they impact business performance. It also examines how all these factors affect the investment decision making process, as well as their impact on machinery and equipment investments and on business performance. Results demonstrate that at both strategic and operational levels, linkages exist between all factors, which are viewed by organizations as part of their operations strategy. The sample frame for this study consisted of Greek firms th...
