The relation of hearing loss degrees and oral stereognosis in 5-year-old children
Audiology, 2012
Background and Aim: Oral stereognosis is the ability to recognize the objects placed in the mouth; this plays a significant role in speech sounds production. Since the children with hearing loss have articulation disorders, this study aimed to clear the relation of hearing loss degrees and oral stereognosis in 5-year-old children. Methods: In this cross-sectional non-invasive study, 40 children of 5-year-old (30 children with different degrees of hearing loss and 10 normal children) were involved. Oral steriognostic test was done for all of them and the Mann-Whitney U was used for statistical analysis. Results: There were significant differences between the mean of oral stereognostic ability between the normal children and the children with severe (p<0.01) or profound hearing loss (p=0.05). There was no significant difference between the mean of oral stereognostic ability among the children with moderate, severe and profound hearing loss compared with together. Besides, there was no significant difference between the mean of the time of diagnosis among all of hearing loss and normal children. Conclusion: The study shows that the children with moderate, severe and profound hearing loss have inefficient oral stereognosis in comparison with the normal children.
Behavioral Problems Among Kindergarten Children in Jordan From the Mothers' Point Of View
Dirāsāt, 2022
The study aims to reveal the correlation between patterns of family nurturing and behavioral problems among kindergarten children from the point of view of their mothers. The sample consisted of (70) mothers, who were chosen by the available random method. The researchers used two tools: behavioral problems scale, which included the two dimensions (aggression and hyperactivity), and the family nurturing scale, which included two dimensions (authoritarian and democratic). The results indicated that there is an inverse and strong correlation between the scores of the scale of the behavioral problem and the sub-degree of the (tolerant style) scale. Moreover, the study indicated that there is a direct and strong correlation between the scores on the scale of the behavioral problem and the sub-degree of the (authoritarian style) scale, and this indicates that the higher the score on the authoritarian style scale, the higher the level of behavioral problems. It was also found that there are statistically significant differences related to the gender on the scale of behavioral problems as a whole in favor of males at a level. The results also showed that there were differences in the tolerant style of nurturing in favor of females and there were differences in the authoritarian style of nurturing in favor of males and it was found that there were differences in the total degree of behavioral problems attributed to the style of family nurturing in favor of the authoritarian style. Keywords: patterns of family nurturing, behavioral problems, children in the kindergarten stage.

Abstract Anthropometric indices are of the best indicators for growth monitoring during neonatal period. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to determine the association ofanthropometric indices in Iranian and Afghan infants with maternal indices. The study was conducted in 230 mothers who had health profiles in the Eqbaliyeh health center, Qazvin during 2013. Data were collected through the records in mothers’ health profiles. Data were analyzed using T-test and Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Of 230 infants, 119 (51.7%) were male. Mean weight and head circumference were significantly different between Iranian and Afghan infants. The Iranian mothers were older and had higher weight and height during pregnancy compared to the Afghan mothers and the difference was statistically significant. There was positive significant correlation between mothers’ age, weight, hemoglobin, and hematocrit and infants’ birth weight. There was also positive significant correlation between moth...

Background: Proposing an appropriate model of feeding behavior to mothers plays an important role in creating an accurate child feeding conduct. Studies have shown that mothers have low level of knowledge and practice regarding their childrens' nurishment. Newsletter is an educational media providing families with easy access to information resources. Group discussion is one of the best ways to change behavior. Aim: This study aimed to compare the effects of training mothers by either newsletter or discussion groups in nutritional quality of preschoolers. Methods: In this study, 192 mothers having preschoolers were selected by a convenient method and randomly assigned to discussion, newsletter and control groups. A newsletter was sent for 4 weeks. The discussion group was trained with similar educational content one hour per week. Data were collected immediately after the intervention and then one month later using a Healthy Eating Index (HEI). Data analysis was performed with Repeated Measurements. Context validity index and test re-test (r=0.82) was used. Results: There were no significant differences before the intervention, and between the HEI (Healthy Eating Index) score groups. HEI scores after education and one month later were significantly higher in the discussion and newsletter groups compared to control group (p<0.001). No significant difference was found between the discussion and the newsletter groups regarding HEI score after education and one month later (p>0.005). Conclusion: Effect of maternal training with newsletter and group discussions on children's nutritional quality was equal. Given the ease of use of newsletter as an effective alternative method, it can be utilized in preference to group discussions.

Background: Malnutrition is a common clinical problem in critically ill patient at ICU. It has irreversible consequences for patients and causes heavy health care costs for the healthcare system. Nurses are the main responsible for providing nutritional care to patients, but studies show that nurses' compliance with standards in patient care is very low. Therefore, it is important to determine the quality of nursing care in the field of nutrition of patients for behavioral at the individual and organizational level and to develop a guide for evaluating these standards. The present study was designed to compare the quality of nursing care of tubal nutrition with standards in patients admitted to intensive care units of educational hospitals affiliated to Qazvin University of Medical Sciences. Methods: This is a descriptive comparative study. The research population included all nurses working in intensive care units. According to the number of nurses working in the intensive care unit and considering three observations for each nurse, a total of 495 observations were recorded. The data were collected using standard feeding tube checklist. Then, data were analyzed using SPSS v.21 using statistical tests. Results: The results of this study showed that 38% of nurses had a moderate performance and 62% had a good performance in nursing care and the difference was 4.8 in nurses' average performance (p<0.0001). There was a significant relationship between the findings of the quality of tubal nutritional care and sex, marital status, and the level of graduate and postgraduate education. (p<0/001) Conclusions: The low level of nurses' performance in standard entrnal feeding nursing care is potentially a serious risk to ICU patients. Because proper nutrition for patients has a direct consequence of the patient's recovery process. This factor can be influenced by the lack of attention to the existence of an effective educational program and the lack of attention to the implementation of the nursing care process in feeding standard patients by nursing managers.
