The Interactive Role of Couples' Self-Compassion in Cognitive Emotion Regulation of Themselves and Their Spouses: Actor-Partner Interdependence Modeling (original) (raw)
2022, فصلنامه روانشناسی کاربردی
The aim of this study was to determine the interactive role of couples' self-compassion in cognitive emotion regulation of themselves and their spouses using Actor-Partner Interdependence Model. Method: This study is of descriptive method and the design is correlational using structural equation modeling. The statistical population of the study included all couples living in Tehran in 2020, of whom a sample of 167 couples (334 participants) were selected via available sampling method. Short form of Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire Garnefski, Kraaij, 2006 and Self-Compassion Scale Neff, 2003 were used to collect the data. the data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Results: The results indicated that the path coefficient of the actor effect of self-compassion had a positive and significant relationship with adaptive emotion regulation strategies (p <0.01, β=0/83 for females, β=0/60 for males) and a negative and significant relationship with maladaptive emotion regulation strategies in females (p <0.01, β=-0/62) and males (p <0.05, β=-0/60). In terms of partner effect, there was a positive and significant relationship between males' self-compassion and adaptive emotion regulation strategies of their spouses (females) (p <0.05, β=0/19). It should be noted that, both conceptual models of the present research had goodness of fit. Conclusion: Based on the results, it can be said that self-compassion plays an important role in predicting cognitive emotion regulation strategies. Males' self-compassion also plays a role not only in regulating their own emotions but also in their spouses' adaptive emotion regulation strategies.

Introduction: Exposing infidelity has devastating and shocking effects on the family and it can be so severe and uncontrollable that it disrupts the daily functioning and concentration of family members and endangers the quality of marital life. Therefore, interventions to improve the marital quality of married couples affected by infidelity are among the most important actions of psychologists. To this end, the aim of this study was to compare the effectiveness of combined systemic couple therapy (Bowen) and emotion-focused therapy (Johnson) packages and integrated couple therapy on the quality of marital life of couples affected by infidelity. Methods: The present study is a quasi-experimental design with single-subject design in which A-B design was used. In this study, 12 measurements (4 times as baseline, 4 times during treatment, and 4 times as follow-up) were performed. Six couples (12 persons) were selected by purposive sampling from couples who experienced meta-marital relationship referring to Isfahan centers and clinics and were randomly divided into two groups: combined systemic couple therapy (Bowen) and emotion-focused therapy (Johnson) packages (3 couples) and integrated couple therapy (3 couples). Then, the intervention was administered for 15 sessions of combined systemic couple therapy (Bowen) and emotion-focused therapy (Johnson) for the first group and 8 sessions of integrated couple therapy for the second group. Research instruments included Quality Marital inventory. Data analysis was done by visual analysis of graphs using the percentage of improvement. Results: Both combined systemic couple therapy (Bowen) and emotion-focused therapy (Johnson) packages and integrated couple therapy had lasting effects on the quality of marital life of the married couples affected by infidelity. Discussion & Conclusion: Combined systemic couple therapy (Bowen) and emotion-focused therapy (Johnson) packages and integrated couple therapy can all play an important role in improving the quality of marital life of the couples affected by infidelity.
The relationship of attachment styles and mental health with marital adjustment in couples
Journal of Behavioral Sciences, 2011
Introduction: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship of attachment styles and mental health with marital adjustment in couples. Method: This correlation study enrolled 700 couples consisting of 350man and 350 women of 20 to 40 years old who lived in Ardebil city. To collect the data, Bartolommeo and Horvitz attachment style questionnaire, Mental Health questionnaire (SCL-90-R) and Spaniers Marital adjustment questionnaire (DAS) were employed. The data were analyzed using Pearson correlation coefficient and step-by-step regression. Results: Results showed that there is a positive correlation between mental health and marital adjustment in people with insure, preoccupied and dismissing attachment styles. However, there is a negative correlation between mental health and marital adjustment in people with fearful attachment style. Furthermore, we showed that mental health and attachment style explain roughly 13 percent of adjustment variance. Conclusion: These results can be used in premarital consultation, determining attachment style, or couple's mental health in order to predict their marital adjustment. Such practice will assist in training couples to improve their satisfaction and adjustment.

Objectives Spouse abuse against women is the most prevalent type of family violence, and its harmful consequences threaten both women's health and their well-being in family and society. It is very important to find the factors that eliminate these deleterious effects and protect women's health. The aim of this study was to explore the moderator effect of personality characteristics in the relationship between spouse abuse and symptoms of depression among women. Methods For this purpose, 300 married women were provided with questionnaires measuring spouse abuse, depression symptoms (Beck depression inventory) and personality characteristics (NEO-FFI). Results According to the results, depressive symptoms in women were correlated with spouse abuse. Agreeableness was found to serve as a moderator between spouse abuse and depressive symptoms. Conclusion From these findings, one can conclude that women who experience spouse abuse suffer from depressive symptoms. The battered women who were more agreeable experience less depressive symptoms.

A psychometric assessment of the Belbin Team-Role Self-Perception Inventory
Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, 1993
The aim of this study was to standardize and validate The Belbin Team Role Self-Perception Inventory (BTRSPI-9Roles). Participants include 360 employees of National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company, who were selected by classified random sampling method. The instrument consisted of BTRSPI-9R, Neo-FFI Personality Inventory and The Belbin Observer Assessment Sheet (OAS). Data were analyzed through Pearson correlation coefficient, test-retest, cronbach alpha and percentage rank methods. The range of validity coefficients, through different methods, determined between 0.28 to 0.63 and reliability coefficients from 0.59 to 0.88. Finally, results showed that BTRSPI-9R has an acceptable validity & reliability, and norms (cut off points) of the roles were computed using percentage ranks. Therefore, the BTRSPI-9R can be used as a reliable tool to help organizations and industries in the area of team working and improvement of team effectiveness.
