Learning Arabic Communication Through the 'Takallam' Application: A Preliminary Study
Journal of Education and Practice, 2023
Advancements in technology and communication have had a great impact on language education, necessitating changes in the delivery method of the education system to compete with the demands of the 21st century. This qualitative research aims to design and develop a mobile application for Arabic language communication. The app focuses on improving oral communication skills, including various features such as conversation, vocabulary, grammar, reinforcement activities, and language-based tasks. The ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation) instructional design model was adopted for the development of the application, providing a systematic workflow. The findings of the study show the success of the developed mobile communication Arabic language application called 'Takallam'. Among others, this application is expected to benefit students and users in improving their mastery of Arabic language communication skills.
A Conceptual Framework for Mobile Application in Learning Arabic Language Proficiency
2018
Over the years, there are rapid development in complex devices and gadgets such as smartphones, tablets, PCs and laptops. Consequently, this leads to rapid development in mobile technology that has made us reliant to mobile applications in our lives. Mobile applications are becoming popular tools for education and business, as well as for entertainment and employment. This has sparked the development of innovative and interactive education applications that can be used to encourage and facilitate conducive learning. Therefore, this research is conducted to create a further understanding on the use of mobile applications to enhance learning. Here, it is believed that the use of mobile applications in education have many benefits. This is because applications enable students to visualize what being learned throughout their learning process which makes learning more effective for them. This study describes the use of an instructional design model to design and develop an application for learning Arabic language and improve its proficiency. The use of the combination of Kemp model and Gerlach & Ely model is proposed in developing the application.
The Impact of Mobile Applications on Arabic Language Acquisition: A Pedagogical Perspective
2024
The influence of mobile applications on the learning of Arabic as a foreign language from a teaching standpoint is examined in this paper which discusses how effective integration of digital means in language learning has been an unresolved issue. The researchers sought to investigate if mobile applications can help increase vocabulary for students who speak Arabic as their native tongue. Quantitative data collected through questionnaires and tests were combined with qualitative data from interviews and focus groups in a mixedmethods approach. The study found out that vocabulary retention and learner engagement significantly improved with mobile applications, providing a flexible and interactive platform for learning languages. In addition, the research points out that certain design features such as interface and content presentation are essential in promoting good learning experiences. This implies that there is potential for using mobile applications as supplementary resources in effective language teaching; hence these digital tools need to be integrated into conventional methods of instruction by teachers. Furthermore, future studies should examine how using mobile apps affects prolonged capability in addition to creating personalized ones which serve various learners' requirements.

In tandem with the development of technology, the use of multimedia in language learning is one of the best alternatives to make Arabic language learning more productive, effective and communicative. The use of multimedia applications has the potential to help students improve their mastery of the Arabic language, especially listening and speaking skills. However, teaching and learning Arabic language at UiTM are mainly focusing on the conventional methods where lecturers are utilizing textbook as the primary teaching resource. Some educators refuse to take advantage of technology in teaching because of the lack of multimedia learning materials and resources. Furthermore, the multimedia-based teaching materials that are currently available are not designed based on an appropriate instructional design approach which makes these educational materials irrelevant to the real needs of students. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to identify the problems and the needs of third language Arabic students at UiTM towards the development of an integrated exercise module for basic Arabic language through mobile learning application. This study is a survey based on a quantitative approach that uses a set of questionnaires as a research instrument. This questionnaire was distributed to 79 students out of 280 students who took Arabic as a third language at UiTM Shah Alam. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze this quantitative data. The findings revealed that most students agreed that learning Arabic in UiTM is only focused on the use of Arabic textbooks and the exercises provided in the books are not enough for them to master what they had learned. As a result, the students expressed the necessity of utilizing the additional multimedia learning materials in the classroom, not only to improve their Arabic language proficiency but also to perform well in tests and assignments.

Teaching and learning pronunciation has become a neglected issue because it is regarded as an abstract science, although it is a peripheral ingredient in English oral production. With the dawn of technology and its various tools, exploring pronunciation and its effectiveness in successful communication attracts a bunch of scholarly attention. The use of Computer Assisted Language Learning opens the gateway for the possibility to integrate other tools in language learning as mobiles and gives birth to mobile learning or free education. In this vein, the incentive behind the current research work is in twofold: to investigate the attitudes of both teachers and students towards the inclusion of mobiles in language learning, and to prove the effectiveness of this new approach in improving the listening and speaking skills of foreign language learners. To fulfill these aims, the researcher held an interview with 15 teachers teaching English at Dr Moulay Tahar University of Saida. The researcher also conducted a pretest and a posttest with 95 students of the second year from the same university. To this end, the findings revealed that both teachers and students have positive attitudes towards the introduction of mobile technology in language learning, even though some teachers still favor the traditional approaches of language teaching and learning. The results also demonstrated that the applications, used in the experiment, showed the usability of Mobile Assisted Language in learning English pronunciation.

In the new era of digital technology especially in the use of mobile learning among youth learners such as mobile gadgets, smart phones, I-Pads and so on, the learners are also affected by the mobile revolution in their learning preference of various educational platforms. As such, the implementation of learning management system (LMS) in a university through normal web-based platform should beexploring the potential use of mobile technology and gadgets in mobile learning platform. This paper aims to investigate the learners' preference of using mobile devices in learning Arabic in IIUM in order to explore their inclination towards using mobile learning technologies in a learning institution. The respondents were selected from an undergraduate learners in two sections of a course who were learning computer applications theoretically and practically in Arabic language for the Bachelor of Revealed Knowledge (Arabic Language and Literature) in International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). The respondents have been using both platforms of web-based and mobile-based LMS of IIUM I-Taleem for an academic semester in 2015 before responding to this online survey of 5 Likert-scale and an open ended questionnaire. General results of this study revealed that the learners are enjoying learning by using mobile devices although the web-based platform is still available. The use of mobile LMS among learners is found to provide extra learning support, motivation and self-learning option. Among the suggestions for improvement are improving the internet connection facility for student via Wifi and providing mobile devices for learners to use for better implementation of mobile I-Taleem in IIUM.
