Effect of Family Environment on Academic Achievement of Adolescents'
Family, being the first and major organization of socialization has great influence on the development of a child. Studies have shown that most of the children who are successful or great achievers and well-adjusted come from the families where satisfying healthy relationships exist. Studies have further suggested that a good, supportive environment at home, school and neighbourhood could enhance child's scholastic achievement. This paper presents a study based on a sample of 200 students drawn from different schools of Shimla. The study was planned to evaluate the effect of family environment on the academic performance of High school children. A family environment scale evolved by Moos & Moos was used to assess the quality of family environment. The academic performance was determined with the help of report cards of the students besides other performance records taken from the schools.

Family environment involves both the socio-psychological and physical dimensions and both exercise reciprocal effect on each other. The main objectives of the present study are to find out the family environment among higher secondary school students; and find out the relationship between family environment and academic achievement among higher secondary school students. The population for the present study has been identified as the higher secondary school students who are studying in various types of schools in Thiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu state. Using simple random procedure from the list of schools the researcher collected 600 higher secondary school students from Thiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu state. Differential study regarding family environment shows that significant differences are found among the sub groups of father's educational qualification, fathers' occupation, mothers' educational qualification, mothers' occupation, and family annual income. One of the significant findings of the study is the family environment is positively correlated with academic achievement of higher secondary school students. Further studies can be carried out through replication of a similar study to other states in India to have a broader scope in terms of generalization of the study findings.

The present research aimed to study family environment and academic achievement of boys and girls studying in government and private senior secondary school. The study was carried out on a sample of 100 senior secondary students of district Baghpat in Uttar Pradesh drawn through Stratified Random Sampling Technique. Family Environment Scale (FES) constructed by Dr. Arun kumar and Sundeep Kumar Shrivastava (2016) was used for the collection of data. The findings revealed that there exists no significant difference between boys and girls on their family environment and academic achievement but there exists significant difference between government and private school students on their family environment and academic achievement. It was also revealed that positive correlation exists between family environment and academic achievement among senior secondary school students. It is found that more favourable the family environment, highly the academic achievement.

There could be various aspects of students' life which matter for them in academic performance. Family environment and mental health are analyzed with reference to academic performance in the present study to know the relationship between family environment and mental health, family environment and academic performance, and mental health and academic performance. A sample of 300 high school students has been taken for the study. Family Environment and Mental Health Scale have been administered to collect the data. For analyzing the data Chi-square test has been used in the study. Findings shows that there is found significant relationship between family environment and mental health, and mental health and academic performance. In another finding no significant relationship is found between family environment and academic performance. So it can be said that family environment can have significant relationship with mental health but not with academic performance. On the other hand both mental health and academic performance can have significant relationship.

It is essential for a healthy living, the best familyenvironment, irrespective of the age of the individual. The aim of the present study is to find out the relationship between family environment and academic achievement of higher secondary school students in Kanyakumari District. The sample selected for the study was 400 higher secondary school students. Stratified sampling technique was used. Family Environment Inventory was the tool used for the collection of data. The collected data were analysed through mean difference analysis and Correlation. The findings of the study revealed that there is significant difference in the family environment of higher secondary school students with respect to their gender and locale and there is significant correlation between family environment and academic achievement of higher secondary school students in Kanyakumari District.
A STUDY OF ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF ADOLESCENTS IN RELATION TO FAMILY CLIMATE
The purpose of the study was to understand the extent of relationship between academic achiev ement and family climate of adolescents. Present study was conducted on a random sample of 767 adolescents (460 female and 307 male) studying in 10+1 class in Govt. /Private Senior Secondary Schools of Punjab. There is positive significant correlation betw een family climate and academic achievement of adolescents. Thus highly satisfactory the family climate, higher is the academic achievement of adolescents. Significant difference exists in the academic achievement of adolescent due to highly satisfactory f amily climate and highly dissatisfactory family climate. It is also found that academic achievement of adolescent living in highly satisfactory family climate is higher as compared to their counterparts living in highly dissatisfactory family climate. Henc e on the bas is of these results hypothesis that there will be significant difference in the academic achievement of adolescent belonging to highly satisfactory family climate and highly dissatisfactory family climate is retained. As per the results of the present study significant difference is obtained in the academic achievement of male adolescents due to highly satisfactory family climate and highly dissatisfactory family climate. Significant difference exists in academic achievement of female adolescent s due to highly satisfactory family climate and highly dissatisfactory family climate.
A STUDY OF ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN RELATION TO HOME ENVIRONMENT OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
Parents are an essential part of their Childs environment. Adults need to have a positive view of them (self concept) and serve as role model for their children. Self awareness is another key part of child's development. This is why the parents' ability to provide wings is so important. In order to succeed, children need to gain confidence in their abilities and gain a sense that they can do things on their own. The precious time between birth and maturity gives parents many opportunities to balance roots and wings. Parents can lead the way in providing experiences that enhance their children view of themselves. This way parents can builds self esteem in their children and themselves in order to improve the quality of their lives and strengthen family relationship. Home environment not only influences the academic achievement but also affects the mental condition of a child. On one hand, congenial home environment supports a child to maintain a good mental health and uncongenial home environment forces her to develop several unpleasant mental conditions, like, tension, anxiety, stress etc., which leads to her poor academic performance. Effect of Family Environment on Student Academic Performance and Adjustment Problems In School

The study investigates the effect of family environment on student's academic performance and adjustment problems among year one students of school of health Technology Keffi, Nasarawa State. The study included 168 students made up of 77 males and 91 females from four Departments in the School, ranging between the age of 16-20 years. The results revealed that family environment has no effect on Academic performance of the student; also there is no gender difference in school adjustment and academic performance of the participants. However, in cons tract, family environment has effect on school adjustment. This finding suggests the need for parents to pay attention on their relationship with children while in school as it may has effect on them negatively.

Academic achievement and family relationship of 140 Higher secondary school students (Male=70, Female=70) was studied. Family Relationship Inventory (FRI) developed by Sherry and Sinha (2011) was used to study the family relationship and marks scored in the previous class were used to assess the academic achievement. Demographic information was collected and Mean, S. D., t test and product moment correlation of Pearson were calculated. Significant difference was found among higher secondary school students having Poor and healthy family relationship. Significant positive relationship was found between academic achievement and family relationship among higher secondary school students.
Academic Achievements of Adolescents and Family Functioning

This study is focused on academic achievement of adolescents and their relationship with family functioning. The study aims to reveal through several research methods the functioning of family ties (cohesion and flexibility) and the type of adolescents' families, their academic achievements, as well as the demographic characteristics of families based on their categorization by type of functioning. To realize the goals of the study were conducted measurements of family functioning in order to determine the type of functioning and through semi-structured interviews and conversations were revealed characteristics of families by type of functioning. The study sample consists of adolescents (N= 32) and their parents (N=27). It was found that the gender of the adolescent, being a resident for the last 15 years in the capital versus new arrivals, education of parents, the density of the apartment and the economic situation have positive correlation with family functioning, which in turn is positively related to family support in the aid in learning and academic achievement of adolescents. The study also found that low levels of family cohesion and family functioning are related mostly with newcome families in the capital these last 15 years. The study found that these families have much more difficulties and challenges to face compared to resident families. The author makes recommendations for further studies on families during the migration processes.
