Assessing the Spatial Distribution of Rainfall and the Effect of Altitude in Iran (Hamadan Province)
Air, Soil and Water Research, 2017
Atmospheric phenomena have an enormous influence on natural resources and human life. Lack of sufficient information and knowledge in regard to the management of natural areas and ecosystems will bring about a huge cost. Hamadan province according to the topography, geomorphology, and soil condition is known as a particular area. In this region, intense rains have brought about hillsides, runoffs, and floods annually destroying a large amount of foundations and eroding fertile soils. This study was conducted using rainfall average data from 35 synoptic stations and rain measurements between the years 1982 and 2012 (30 years). Geostatistical techniques are applied for zoning, such as kriging, co-kriging, inverse distance weighting (IDW), radial basis function, global polynomial interpolation, and local polynomial interpolation. For comparing and evaluating geostatistical methods, cross-validation and statistical parameters such as correlation coefficient and mean absolute relative er...

Floods are amongst the most catastrophic natural disasters, having enormous impacts on both infrastructure and humans. Between 1998 and 2017, this detrimental phenomenon afflicted more than two billion individuals globally. The present investigation utilized two phases of spatial analysis and spatial statistics from ArcGIS in order to precisely assess the hazard of flooding in the Darab watershed, Iran. Following a survey of literature and case studies, seven criteria for flood risk were recognized to be effective: dem, slope, drainage density, NDVI, land cover, geology, and rainfall. The initial phase was operated using fuzzy logic and AHP in order to overlap layers. In order to prepare of flood hazard mapping, kernel density and zonal statistics were used to compute flood hazard density and flood hazard zoning. In flood hazard zones, spatial statistics in ArcGIS Pro were applied to detect high-and low-risk clusters. An innovation in this study is the use of local data to detect hi...

Climate extreme events such as floods and droughts in any area have a significant impact on human life, infrastructure, agriculture, and the economy. In the last two years, flash floods caused by heavy rainstorms have become frequent and destructive in many catchments in Northern Iraq. The present study aims to examine flash floods in the Erbil region, Northern Iraq using Remote sensing (RS), Geographic Information System (GIS), and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) for geomorphic data. PCA results revealed that 12 geomorphic parameters exhibited a significant correlation with two different statistical components. To facilitate practical application, ranks are assigned based on the calculated parameters for flood susceptibility mapping. Out of the 24 basins in the current study, three basins (16, 3, and 14) have the highest geomorphometric values (36–39), indicating the zone most susceptible to flash floods and making up a maximum area of 38.58% of the studied region. Six basins (4...
Estimation method of spatial geostatistical data : Application to rainfall data
International Journal of Advanced Statistics and Probability
Restriction of water resources for agricultural and non-agricultural purposes has caused major difficulties and rainfall is considered as one of the most important water resources. Therefore, predicting rainfall and estimating its rate monthly or annually for each region as one of the most important atmospheric parameters, is of particular importance in optimized usage of water resources. In this paper in addition to the presenting application of novel statistical methods, prediction of rainfall amount has been performed for the entire map of Iran. In this analysis, data of average rainfall of 108 pluviometry stations in different cities of Iran have been used and zoning of rainfall has been prepared for the country.

The study of precipitation climate in any region is important from the view of agricultural production, drainage of urban and agricultural lands, erosion, flood, drought, water resources and civilization. In the present study the regionalization of Iran's precipitation climate was considered. Since the use of various type and number of variables may lead to different boundaries in the resulting precipitation climates, it is helpful to select those precipitation related variables, which represent most of the information from all candidate variables. The selected variables were then used to regionalize Iran's precipitation climate using factor analysis and clustering techniques. Data from 77 weather stations in Iran were used from 1956 to 1998. Twelve variables were selected from the 57 candidate variables, using Procrustes Analysis. The H and Z-statistics, which are based on the L-moment technique, were used to test the homogeneity of each region and select the distribution which best-fitted annual precipitation records- in that region. The countrywide area was divided into six regions with homogeneous and one with heterogeneous precipitation climates. Growth curves, for dimensionless annual precipitation, are illustrated for each region.
