Murraya Koenigii is a multipurpose plant. Its belong to the rutaceae family. The plant is commonly known as Curry Leaf/Kari pataa or Meethi neem. The plant is a native of India. It is distributed/found in tropical and subtropical regions in the world. All parts of plant is useful for treat and cure various diseases and useful for preparation of pharmaceutical formulations, cosmetic preparation. The plant contains many major phytochemical compounds, Vitamins, Nutrients. it is also a rich source of nutrient and minerals (K, S, Ca, Zn, Fe, Mg) due to the presence of these major chemical compounds the plant contains many pharmacological activity like anti-inflammatory, anti-pyretic, hypoglycaemic, anti-ulcer, wound healing, hypocholesterolemic, anti-oxidant, useful for memory enhancing and some other uses includes insecticidal, anti-microbial, anti-fungal etc. The main goal of this study was to convey the information about plant benefits/use for pharmacological and nutritive purpose.

Murraya koenigii (Curry tree) is a common culinary plant, its leaves are used from ancienttimes as a spice or merely as garnishing or seasoning and they not only enhance the flavor butalso increase the nutritional value of food. Besides being a valuable ingredient curry plant hashigh medicinal value, it is being used since ancient times to treat various diseases, heal wounds,and also has cosmetic uses. This review highlights the morphological and taxonomical status ofthe curry plant along with its phytochemicals, pharmacological activity, medical importance,and ethnobotanical uses.

The medicinal plants are almost the exclusive source of drugs for majority of world population today. People want to use herbal drugs because they are considered as safe, inexpensive and have no adverse effects. Plants are also very useful because they can self-generate and can produce a range of beneficial bioactive products. Murraya koenigii belongs to family Rutaceae which can be used as medicines to cure various ailments. It is seen that the different tribal communities have used the various parts of this plant. Plants have been used in traditional medicine for several thousand years. India is perhaps the largest producer of medicinal herbs and is rightly called the "Botanical garden of the World". Ayurveda-The Indian traditional system of medicine claims to cure and control various diseases by means of herbal medicines. Murraya koneigii (Curry Leaves/Kadhi Patta/Mitha Nimba/Giri Nimba) is native to India and it is found almost everywhere in the Indian subcontinent excluding the higher levels of Himalayas. The curry tree is having many diseases protecting ingredients (natural compounds) which can be used as a natural source to make newer, alternative and innovative medicines. Curry leaves used traditionally as antiemetic, antidiarrhoeal, febrifuge and blood purifier. The whole plant is considered to be a tonic and stomachic. Curry leaves are found to be effective as antioxidant, antidiabetic, antibacterial, antihypertensive, cytotoxic and also in the treatment of bronchial respiratory difficulties. The leaves are used traditionally as a spice in curry and other eatables. The present review incorporates the description of M. koenigii, its phytochemical constituents and various pharmacological activities of isolated compounds as well as bioactivity of extract studies carried out by various numbers of laboratories.

In several ancient systems of medicine including Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani, Murraya koenigii, a medicinally important herb from mainly Asian origin has vast number of therapeutic applications such as in bronchial disorders, piles, vomiting, skin diseases etc. The medicinal utilities have been described especially for leaf, stem, bark and oil. The well studied pharmacology and phytochemistry of M. koenigii and therapeutic potential of this plant needs to be compiled in form of review. The present review incorporates the description of M. koenigii, its phytochemical constituents and various pharmacological activities of isolated compounds as well as bioactivity of extract studies carried out by various numbers of laboratories. In addition to that, it highlights its potential to be the important nutraceutical for diabetes and cardioprotection.

Medicinal plants are used in herbalism and thought to have some medicinal properties. They form the easily available source for healthcare purposes in rural and tribal areas. Ethanobotany is a distinct branch of natural science dealing with various aspects such as anthropology, archaeology, botany, ecology, economics and medicine, religious, cultural and several other disciplines. Recently, great interest in the above given studies of herbal drugs and traditional remedies is indicated worldwide and there has been an upsurge in the scientific investigations in this area. The Murraya koenigii plant is widely used as herb, spice, condiments and also used to treat various types of ailments in Indian traditional system. World's about 80% population relies upon herbal products, because they have been considered as safe, effective and economical. The present study was aimed to review the ethanobotanical properties, pharmacognostic, phytochemical and pharmacological properties of Murraya koenigii plant. The various parts of this plant are widely used by different tribal communities. The leaves of plant are use as tonic, stomachic, carminative, internally in dysentery, vomiting. Used as antihelminthic, analgesic, cures piles, allays heat of the body, thirst, inflammation and itching. Following various claims for cure of numerous diseases, efforts have been made by researchers to verify the efficacy of the plant through scientific biological screening. A scrutiny of literature reveals some notable pharmacological activities of the plant such as activity on heart, anti diabetic and cholesterol reducing property, antimicrobial activity, antiulcer activity, antioxidative property, cytotoxic activity, anti diarrhea activity, phagocytic activity and many more medicinal values.
