Aortic root aneurysm in Takayasu arteritis syndrome: Exploration in active phase and repair in inactive phase (original) (raw)

Aortic root aneurysm in Takayasu arteritis poses challenges for surgical intervention due to the inflammatory nature of the condition. A case is presented involving a 39-year-old woman diagnosed with annuloaortic ectasia and a 60-mm aortic root aneurysm. Initial exploration during the active inflammatory phase was aborted due to fragility of the aorta; however, successful radical surgery was performed after six months of corticosteroid treatment when the inflammation subsided. Careful management and timing of surgery in relation to the disease's inflammatory status are critical for successful outcomes.
