N-benzyl-N1-phenyl Thiourea as Corrosion Inhibitor for 304SS in Hydrochloric Acid Solution (original) (raw)

2009

Abstract

The corrosion behavior of 304 SS in 1 N HCl solutions containing different concentrations of N-benzyl – N1 - phenyl thiourea (BPTU) at different temperatures was investigated using potentiostatic polarization technique and weight loss method. The results obtained shows that BPTU is an efficient anodic inhibitor with efficiency of greater than 93% in the temperature range studied. The adsorption of this compound on the 304 SS surface was found to obey Temkins isotherm, and the inhibition was governed by physisorption mechanism. The thermodynamic parameters deduced for the adsorption process reveal a strong interaction and spontaneous adsorption of BPTU on the alloy steel surface.
