Literature-Based Approach in Developing Scientific Skills Among Young Children

International Journal of Education Humanities and Social Science

Developing scientific skills among learners is the aim of every country. Children are curious about the things around them. Hence, they should be provided with science lessons that will help them develop scientific skills. Literature-based approaches (LBA) can be used in teaching science to young children. To determine the effectiveness of the Literature-Based Approach in developing scientific skills among young children, this study utilized a quasi-experiment approach. The participants were kindergarten teachers and pupils (N=27) from a public elementary school. The pupils were divided into groups of non-story (n=11) and story (n=16). In investigating the effectiveness of LBA, pretests were given to the two groups of kindergarten pupils to ensure validity and reliability. With the use of Pear Deck as an application in administering tests during online classes, it was found that there were no significant differences between the two groups in their pretest scores, thus making them su...

The research design used was nonequivalent control group. The sample of this study amounted 20 children consisting of 10 experimental groups and 10 control groups. Data collection techniques used were observation, tests and documentation. The data analysis technique used was the descriptive and inferential statistical analysis test with the t test. The value of a child\\\'s sciencecapability before being given treatment had an average of 16.00 which was lower than the average value of a child\\\'s scientific ability after being given a treatment of 18.00. The results showed that there were differences in the value of children\\\'s scientific abilities before and after the plan do review learning model.

Development of Science Module SETS Approach to Strengthen Cognitive Learning Outcomes of Elementary School Students

Journal of Primary Education, 2020

At present, there is still a lack of teaching materials in Elementary Schools, specifically science that is suitable to the needs of students and encourages students to care about their environment. The purpose of this study is to develop a Natural Sciences module with the STSE (Science, Technology, Society, Environment) approach to strengthen cognitive learning outcomes in Elementary Schools. The method used is the research development of the modified Borg and Gall model, namely preliminary studies, development stages, and evaluation stages. The research subjects were grade IV students, Public Elementary School Kangkung 1 Mranggen. Data collection instruments used were observation sheets, tests, questionnaires, and documentation. Analysis of research with t-test and n-gain test to determine the comparison of modules, as well as improvement of learning outcomes. The results of the study that the Natural Sciences module, with the STSE approach, is valid for use. The results of trials...

DEVELOPING LEARNING SCIENCE TEACHING MATERIALS BASED ON SCIENTIFIC TO IMPROVE STUDENTS LEARNING OUTCOMES IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

This research aims to develop learning science teaching materials based on scientific. The methods of this study are a research and development (R & D) by Borg and Gall. The instruments that used to collect data were observation sheets, interview guidelines, scoring questionnaires, and test (pre-test and post-test); To verify the effectiveness of the application of teaching materials using t-test. The results of this study can be concluded: 1) The results of the validation of learning experts obtained the value of 4.76 and a result of expert validation material obtained value 4.39. 2) For the effectiveness of teaching materials obtained an average score pre-test and post-test is obtained tobs = 7.9360> ttable = 2.024, it can be concluded that the test H0 is rejected. It means that the teaching materials developed can improve student learning outcomes.

https://www.ijrrjournal.com/IJRR\_Vol.10\_Issue.2\_Feb2023/IJRR-Abstract19.html, 2023

Elementary school students need direct experience and learning objects that can drive the pace of their cognitive development. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the development of digital picture storybooks integrated with videos and worksheets on the learning outcomes of elementary school students. The development model used in this research is ADDIE (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluate). This study involved fifth-grade students at SDN 3 Krack as research subjects. Based on the results of the material valiator and media validation test, scores of 84.44% and 80% were obtained in the appropriate category. The product was tested on a small scale and obtained an average pre-test science learning result of 50.66 and a post-test of 72.33 with an n-gain of 0.43 in the medium category, and the results of the t-test obtained count 20.05 ≥ t-table 2.306. In the large-scale trial, the average pre-test in science learning outcomes was 60.5 and 76.33 in the post-test with an n-gain of 0.40 in the medium category, and the t-test obtained tcount 31.25 ≥ ttable 2.069. The researcher concluded that the developed digital picture storybooks were effective in improving the science learning outcomes of elementary school students.

The Analysis of sixth grade science book based on the biological, physical, and technology areas proposed in the fundamental transformation document of the educational system

2018

The purpose of this study is to analyze the sixth grade science book based on the biological, physical, and technology areas proposed in the fundamental transformation document of the educational system using William Romey method. As a kind of "content analysis" research, it examines the desired content in terms of specific and predetermined criteria or indicators and measures everything with specified criteria; it is in fact an evaluation study. However, during this study on the criteria or indicators, descriptive research has been used. The research statistical population was the sixth grade science book in 2017-18. Findings revealed that the science books received less attention in the field of biological and physical areas but it has received more attention in the field of science and technology. Also the text involvement index in terms of biological and physical was very low, indicating that the text book has not been written in an active manner; on the other hand the...
