On the Tangential Geometry of Foliations
We discuss main ingredients of (differential) tangential geometry of a given foliated manifold (M, F). The tangential geometry of (M, F) is essentially the (differential) geometry of the leafwise manifold M δ. A horizontal bundle of (M, F) is defined as a vector subbundle of the tangent bundle T M that is complementary to the vertical bundle of (M, F). Horizontal vector fields and horizontal sheets are naturally introduced. Fundamental vertical and/or tangential objects, like functions, vectors and forms are introduced and explored. Various characterizations of such objects are given. Finally, an important ingredient, namely the vertical frame bundle of the foliated manifold (M, F), is defined.
Identification of Riemannian foliations on the tangent bundle via SODE structure
The geometry of a system of second-order differential equations (SODE) is the geometry of a semispray, which is a globally defined vector field on TM. The metric compatibility of a given semispray is of special importance. In this paper, the metric associated with the semispray S is applied in order to study some types of foliations on the tangent bundle which are compatible with the SODE structure. Indeed, sufficient conditions for the metric associated with the semispray S are obtained to extend to a bundle-like metric for the lifted foliation on TM. Thus, the lifted foliation converts to a Riemannian foliation on the tangent space which is adapted to the SODE structure. Particularly, the metric compatibility property of the semispray S is applied in order to induce a SODE structure on transversals. Finally, some equivalent conditions are presented for the transversals to be totally geodesic.

AbstractThe geometry of a codimension-one foliation with a time-dependent Riemannian metric isstudied. The work begins with formulae concerning deformation of geometric quantities as theRiemannian metric varies along the leaves of the foliaiton. Then the Extrinsic Geometric Flowdepending on the secondfundamental formofthe foliation isintroduced. Under suitableassump-tions, this evolution yields the second order parabolic PDEs, for which the existence/uniquenesand in some cases converging of a solution are shown. Applications to the problem of prescrib-ing mean curvature function of a codimension-one foliation, and examples with harmonic andumbilical foliations (e.g., foliated surfaces) and with twisted product metrics are given. 1 Introduction A Geometric Flow (GF) is an evolution of a given geometric structure under a differential equationrelated to a functional on a manifold, usually associated with some curvature. The most popularGFs in mathematics are the Heat flow, the Ricci flow ...
Vector and affine bundles related to Riemannian foliations
The purpose of this paper is to give some new criteria by which a foliation is Riemannian. The following conditions are equivalent for a foliation to be Riemannian: the foliation allows a positively admissible transverse Lagrangian (in particular a transverse Finslerian); the foliation that allows a positively admissible transverse Hamiltonian (in particular a transverse Cartan form); the lifted foliation F r (on the bundle of r-jets of sections of the normal bundle νF) is Riemannian; the lifted foliation F r 0 on the slashed bundle is Riemannian and vertically exact ; there is a positively admissible transverse Lagrangian on J r E, for a foliated vector bundle p : E → M , all for some r ≥ 1.

Extrinsic Geometric Flow (EGF) for a codimension-one foliation has been recently introduced by authors as deformations of Riemannian metrics subject to quantities expressed in terms of its second fundamental form. In the paper we introduce soliton solutions to EGF and study their geometry for totally umbilical foliations, foliations on surfaces, and when the EGF is produced by the extrinsic Ricci tensor. We study geometry of a manifold endowed with two complementary orthogonal distributions (plane fields) and a time-dependent Riemannian metric. The work begins with formulae concerning deformations of geometric quantities as the metric varies conformally along one of the distributions. Then we introduce the geometric flow depending on the mean curvature vector of the distribution, and show existence/uniquenes and convergence of a solution as t → ∞, when the complementary distribution is integrable with compact leaves. We apply the method to the problem of prescribing mean curvature vector field of a foliation, and give examples for harmonic and umbilical foliations and for the double-twisted product metrics, including the codimension-one case.

We study deformations of Riemannian metrics on a given manifold equipped with a codimension-one foliation subject to quantities expressed in terms of its second fundamental form. We prove the local existence and uniqueness theorem and estimate the existence time of solutions for some particular cases. The key step of the solution procedure is to find (from a system of quasilinear
On the curvature groups of a Riemannian foliation

In [Ann. Sc. Norm. Super. Pisa, Sci. Fis. Mat., III. Ser. 22, 331–341 (1968; Zbl 0155.49803)], I. Vaisman introduces curvature groups and curvature numbers associated to a linear connection Γ on a C ∞ manifold M. In [J. Differ. Geom. 9, 547–555 (1974; Zbl 0287.53031)], S. I Goldberg and N. C. Petridis study this type of curvature groups for the general case of a semi-Riemannian manifold. The authors of this paper generalize these notions by considering basic curvature groups in the case of a transverse Levi-Civita connection Γ of a foliated Riemannian manifold (M,ℱ,g), although their construction could be generalized to the case of an arbitrary projectable connection on a foliated principal bundle over a foliated manifold. They prove some interesting results among which the one stating that, if the transverse Ricci tensor is everywhere non-degenerate, the basic curvature groups of (M,ℱ,g) vanish. Therefore, an Einstein foliation with at least one non-zero basic curvature group is tr...

The notion of F-geodesic, which is slightly different from that of F-planar curve (see [13], [17], and [18]), generalizes the magnetic curves, and implicitly the geodesics, by using any (1,1)-tensor field on the manifold (in particular the electro-magnetic field or the Lorentz force). We give several examples of F-geodesics and the characterizations of the F-geodesics w.r.t. Vranceanu connections on foliated manifolds and adapted connections on almost contact manifolds. We generalize the classical projective transformation, holomorphic-projective transformation and C-projective transformation, by considering a pair of symmetric connections which have the same F-geodesics. We deal with the transformations between such two connections, namely F-planar diffeomorphisms ([18]). We obtain a Weyl type tensor field, invariant under any F-planar diffeomorphism, on a 1-codimensional foliation.
Orthogonal foliations on riemannian manifolds
2017
In this work, we find an equation that relates the Ricci curvature of a riemannian manifold M and the second fundamental forms of two orthogonal foliations of complementary dimensions, F and F^, defined on M. Using this equation, we show a sufficient condition for the manifold M to be locally a riemannian product of the leaves of F and F^, if one of the foliations is totally umbilical. We also prove an integral formula for such foliations.
