Behavioural Assessment Problems in Evaluating Patients, Pupils and Peers (original) (raw)
British Journal of Occupational Therapy, 1982
Abstract
INTRODUCTION The observation and assessment of behaviour is fundamental to the teaching and practice of occupational therapy; the assessment of residual capabilities and potential in those with physical or psychological problems; student performance on written examinations, practical activities or on clinical placements; selection interviews to become a student occupational therapist, or, if qualified, for positions of responsibility. There are difficulties however, in the making of reliable, accurate and valid assessments of the behavioural abilities and potential of other people. Despite the fact that these problems are numerous and specific, very little appears to be done in the teaching of skills and consideration of effective techniques to assess behaviour.
