Determinant Factors of Interprofessional Collaborationin Labuang Baji General Hospital

Background: Health services provided to the community were often overlapped among health careprofessionals. Poor communication may affect the quality of patient care and potentially increase the numberof medical errors.Objective: The study aims to analyze the most determinant factors associated with the implementation ofInterprofessional Collaboration (IPC) at Labuang Baji General Hospital.Method: The study used a cross-sectional design for data collection method. A questionnaire wasadministered to 291 respondents. Interprofessional collaboration is cooperation between health professionals who work together to solve health problems, provide medical services, and achieve common goals. In the health sector, 70-80% of errors are due to poor communication and understanding within the team. Introduction: The quality of communication among health care professionals is an important aspect of interprofessional teamwork. As there is a gap in research on communication in interprofessional teams as assessed by team members and patients, the aim of this study was to analyze interprofessional team communication and team participation in a Slovenian general hospital from the perspective of health care professionals and patients.Methods: This was a case report study using a multi-methods study with a survey (n = 150) and a qualitative approach with focus groups (n = 27) and in-depth interviews with interprofessional team members (n = 22) and patients (n = 20).Results: Interprofessional team members rated communication as relatively good, being least satisfied with equal participation in team communication, especially communication with physicians due to interdisciplinary rivalry. Communication is the cornerstone of healthcare setting which is one of the most important tools used to provide a great patient care and bring patient satisfaction. A noble communication is precarious to good healthcare and fundamental element for all health care process. However, the effectiveness of communication became a question due to the presence of high self-esteems such as ego, nonexistence of self-assurance, inefficient managing skills and unstructured organization lead to slow progress in productivity. The presence of communication always takes place whenever sharing patient's health information within or another team or group of medical specialists such as doctors, nurses and other staff at a hospital discussing how to treat existing and incoming patients. Strong communication strategies can improve the patients‟ health by address all the concerns of the patients by providing positive health outcome. However, it is significant for every health care professional well performed in their profession as they need to communicate strategically providing health information and improve positive health outcomes. This article is about an integrative review of interprofessional communication practiced by the health care professional at Malaysian perspective. It highlights the significant of interprofessional communication to achieve positive health outcome.
