Checklist of the vascular alien flora of Catalonia (northeastern Iberian Peninsula, Spain)
Mediterranean Botany
This is an inventory of the vascular alien flora of Catalonia (northeastern Iberian Peninsula, Spain) updated to 2018, representing 1068 alien taxa in total. 554 (52.0%) out of them are casual and 514 (48.0%) are established. 87 taxa (8.1% of the total number and 16.8 % of those established) show an invasive behaviour. The geographic zone with more alien plants is the most anthropogenic maritime area. However, the differences among regions decrease when the degree of naturalization of taxa increases and the number of invaders is very similar in all sectors. Only 26.2% of the taxa are more or less abundant, while the rest are rare or they have vanished. The alien flora is represented by 115 families, 87 out of them include naturalised species. The most diverse genera are Opuntia (20 taxa), Amaranthus (18 taxa) and Solanum (15 taxa). Most of the alien plants have been introduced since the beginning of the twentieth century (70.7%), with a strong increase since 1970 (50.3% of the total...

In 2011-2012 new research on alien vascular plants (or Iberian plants occurring beyond their native distribution range) was carried out, mainly in the provinces Huelva (Spain) and Algarve (Portugal). Several new provincial or regional data are presented. The global and local distribution, ecological preferences, (possible) previous records and degree of naturalization are provided for each taxon. Amaranthus tuberculatus is reported for the first time from Spain. Bidens bipinnata and Mollugo verticillata are apparently first recorded from Andalusia (Spain) while Moricandia arvensis and Solidago gigantea seem to be new for the Algarve (Portugal). The presence of Diplotaxis siifolia and Kyllinga brevifolia in Huelva is confirmed. Finally, Gypsophila pilosa and Tripleurospermun maritimun subsp. inodorum turn out to be new for the province of Huelva and Ambrosia psilostachya for the province of Alicante.
New records of interesting vascular plants (mainly xenophytes) in the Iberian Peninsula. I
Flora Mediterranea, 2012
printed, 2240-4538 online. Further investigations on the (mainly non-native) vascular flora in the Iberian Peninsula, especially between 2008 and 2010, yielded, once again, numerous chorological novelties. Acanthostyles buniifolius and Sphagneticola trilobata are probably reported for the first time in Europe. Boltonia asteroides, Cardamine flexuosa subsp. debilis, Oenothera lindheimeri and Sisyrinchium rosulatum are new for the Iberian Peninsula, while Eragrostis mexicana and Symphyotrichum laeve were recorded for the first time in Portugal. Finally, new provincial records include Bothriochloa barbinodis (Huelva), Camelina microcarpa (Huelva), Cyclospermum leptophyllum (Huelva), Cyperus esculentus (Alto Alentejo), Ehrharta erecta (Algarve), Eleocharis flavescens (Baixo Alentejo), Eragrostis curvula (Alto Alentejo), Kochia scoparia (Huelva), Linaria maroccana (Huelva), Oenothera affinis (Huelva), O. indecora (Huelva), Pteris vittata (Lisbon), Rorippa palustris (Huelva), Setaria verticilliformis (Huelva), Veronica peregrina (Huelva) and Viola tricolor (Huelva). The presence in Spain of Consolida regalis is confirmed and Stenotaphrum secundatum is reported as an aggressive environmental weed in several natural areas in Huelva.
New records in vascular plants alien to Tenerife (Spain, Canary Islands)
Biodiversity Data Journal
Recent fieldwork by the author in Tenerife, mostly between 2014 and 2019, yielded new records of alien vascular plants. Fifteen taxa (Acacia decurrens, A. mearnsii, Caesalpinia pulcherrima, Ensete ventricosum, Eucalyptus camaldulensis subsp. arida, E. cladocalyx, Euryops chrysanthemoides, Ficus elastica, Lippia alba, Pavonia sepioides, Pittosporum tobira, Populus × canadensis, Pyrostegia venusta, Ruellia dipteracanthus and Wigandia kunthii) are reported for the first time from the Canary Islands. All were initially introduced on purpose, mostly as ornamentals, and recently started to escape from cultivation. Most of them are ephemerals or only locally established, but nearly all have the potential to naturalise in the future. Thirteen additional species are reported for the first time from Tenerife: Atriplex nummularia, Bellis perennis, Chenopodium probstii, Coccoloba uvifera, Commelina benghalensis, Cuphea hyssopifolia, Eragrostis virescens, Lemna minuta, Malvastrum corchorifolium,...
New records of interesting xenophytes in the Iberian Peninsula. VII
2017
Our previous research on the xenophytes vascular flora of the Iberian Peninsula was continued in 2016-2017. Several new provincial or regional data are presented (18 taxa), especially for the provinces of Alicante, Huelva and Sevilla (Spain), and Algarve and Estremadura regions (Portugal). Special interest was paid to the naturalized flora of the Natural Park of Sintra-Cascais. For each taxon details are given about the distribution, occupied habitats, ecology, previous citations, the degree of naturalization, etc. Adiantum raddianum, Ageratina ligustrina, A. riparia and Fuchsia boliviana, are possibly mentioned for the first time in the Iberian Peninsula. The naturalization and spread of Blechnum cordatum is confirmed in Sintra (Estremadura, Portugal). Local novelties for Estremadura include Cenchrus setaceus, Cyperus papyrus and Nassella tenuissima are reported from Huelva, probably for the first time for Andalusia (Spain). Lemna minuta is possibly first recorded for the Algarve (Portugal), while Soliva sessilis is new for the provinces of Sevilla (Western Andalusia) and Algarve (Portugal). Elaeagnus angustifolia and Senecio angulatus turn out to be new for the province of Huelva. Finally, Leucaena leucocephala, Oenothera lindheimeri, Parthenocissus inserta and Tipuana tipu have been observed for the first time from Alicante province.
New records of non-native vascular plants in Gran Canaria (Spain, Canary Islands)
Flora Mediterranea, 2020
Verloove, F., Déniz Suárez, E. A. & Salas Pascual, M: New records of non-native vascular plants in Gran Canaria (Spain, Canary Islands). — Fl. Medit. 30: 121-136. 2020. — ISSN: 1120-4052 printed, 2240-4538 online. Recent field work by the authors on the island of Gran Canaria (Canary Islands, Spain) yielded new interesting records of non-native species. Seven species, i.e. Centaurea sulphurea , Clematis flammula , Fallopia baldschuanica , Fraxinus angustifolia , Melilotus officinalis , Saponaria officinalis , and Searsia lancea have not been recorded before from the Canary Islands, whereas 13 species ( Bellis perennis , Centaurea diluta , Chlorophytum comosum , Chondrilla juncea , Cyperus papyrus , Delphinium ajacis , Helianthus annuus , Lonicera japonica , Lupinus pilosus , Montanoa bipinnatifida , Ornithogalum arabicum , Trifolium cernuum , and Wigandia caracasana ) are reported for the first time from Gran Canaria. The actual presence of five further species ( Chenopodium vulvari...
