An Analysis of Some Learning Management Systems

The use of modern information and communication technology as a means of training pupils and students has become a popular trend. For this purpose, a special type of web-based content management systems, called Learning Management Systems (LMSs), has been used. Due to their wide implemented, lots of LMSs have been developed in recent years. All those platforms often provide similar features and users can hardly choose the most appropriate for them. There is a variety of methodologies for the quality evaluations of e-learning in the scientific literature. However, there are no good explanations and detailed studies of most of the modern LMS platforms. This article proposes an analysis of the usability and software functionality of the LMS frameworks. Based on the survey of the state-of-art science research, the criteria for analysis of the LMS platforms in this paper are summarized in three categories: Learning skills tools, Communication tools, and Productivity tools. The main goal is to present a wide-range comparative analysis of 36 electronic learning management systems. All of them support the use of multimedia elements, creating and editing the lectures, exercises and course assignments. The lack of communication support leads to using web forums and social networks out of the LMS. The contribution of this paper presents an enriched modern trend of the software methodologies of the web-based oriented learning management systems from the perspective of design and development.

Design and Implementation of an Online Teaching and Learning Management System

The global education system was impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. To stop the coronavirus from spreading, all schools, colleges, and universities were closed. Students, instructors, and parents all experienced challenges while schools were closed. So, distance learning was a solution to continue the education system. Unfortunately, in a developing country, it was challenging to adopt distance learning due lack of network infrastructures, computers, epileptic power supply, and good internet access. In order to circumvent some of these challenges different online platforms were employed. However, they came with some limitations, for example, the freemium subscription scheme, which allows users to use basic features of the system but requires a certain amount on a predefined basis to access extra needed features. In addition, to use video conferencing in some of the existing LMS you are required to leave the app for another app, for example, to use video conferencing in google classroom you are required to use google meetings. This study aims to create an online E-Learning System that provides all in one tool for teachers to develop and administer courses online. The LMS comes with various functions such as creating learning plans, implementing learning processes, and assessing or evaluating learning processes. Our LMS presents instruction through content creation and storage, sees student participation, and assesses student performance online. The Online Learning System was designed using JavaScript (Vue), PHP (server-side programming Language), and NoSQL as the database. The developed system was evaluated by potential users and found to meet predefined user requirements.
By using Learning Management Systems (LMS), educators are able to create numerous resources expressed by various technological tools (HTML pages, quizzes, forums, wikis etc.). In this manner, the student is supported throughout the educational process. The students in their turn interact with these resources, by experiencing an enriched learning process. However, the LMSs do not provide adaptivity or guidance to the students' choices. As a result the students use their own criteria to choose between large collections of resources. This usually leads to frustration, and wrong choices, as the students' abilities are not taken into serious consideration. This paper focuses on Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Education. More specifically, it proposes a way to enhance the Moodle LMS's functionality by providing more adaptivity. Our ultimate goal is to improve the situation described above. For this purpose, we have designed a user-friendly interface through which the educator can dynamically develop a knowledge base (in the form of an Ontology) of the learning objectives of the e-course's resources. Although the Moodle LMS already supports a mechanism for tagging its resources, this particular proposal extends this functionality, by adding "hierarchical" information. That means that by using the interface the educator adds to the system the knowledge that the learning objectives of «Resource 1», are prerequisite knowledge for understanding the learning objectives of «Resource 2». By offering that knowledge to the system, an agent observes the student's actions and makes personalized suggestions, concerning navigation, or further actions. Finally, the proposed approach can be extended to different LMSs as Web Services were used for the creation of the above functionalities. By implementing the above features, we achieve the enhancement and extension of Moodle LMS's adaptive functionality.

The use of information technology as a means of educating students has become a popular trend. For this purpose, a special type of content management system was used, called learning management systems (LMS) and course management systems (CMS). Often all of these platforms offer similar features and users cannot choose the one that best suits them. This article proposes an analysis of the usability and functionality of software in LMS frameworks. Based on the integration of parallel work on the same database, you can automatically synchronize and manage accounts, users, sessions, and distribute (session and user) easily. There is no need to manually enter data in two different systems. This increases the value of the learning management system used by improving time and accuracy. By first, reducing the time creating learning materials within the LMS. Second, the accuracy in creating the learning materials within the LMS. Third: Accuracy in distributing students and teachers to the course. Fourth, configure the class room inside the LMS that matches the CMS one hundred percent. It includes subjects, departments, faculties and users (students and teachers). The contribution of this paper provides a rich recent direction of software methodologies for web-based learning management systems from a design and development perspective.

There can be no doubt that technology has transformed the way education is delivered to people across the globe. We now live in an interconnected world where the traditional concept of formal learning, taking place in a single physical location, is becoming increasingly less relevant. Modern learners are becoming dissatisfied with the stand-and-deliver approach to education that dictates attendance times, learning venues, and modes of participation. The emergence of sophisticated communication technologies and mobile devices has enabled a new generation of information consumers to satisfy their demands for knowledge without the need to meet in a physical location. Software vendors, open-source developers, and educational institutions, cognizant of this development, have embraced systems that can facilitate the management of courses and engagement with students remotely. The technologies that facilitate the provision of courses over long distances are broadly termed “learning management systems” or “LMSs.” Learning management systems can be defined as web-based software platforms that provide an interactive online learning environment and automate the administration, organization, delivery, and reporting of educational content and learner outcomes.
Evaluating On-line Learning Platforms: a Case Study

Our "information-oriented" society shows an increasing exigency of life-long learning. In such framework, online learning is becoming an important tool to allow the flexibility and quality requested by such a kind of learning process. In the recent past, a great number of on-line platforms have been introduced on the market showing different characteristics and services. A series of features should be taken into account when one evaluates e-learning platforms, starting from the function and usability of the overall learning system in the context of the human, social and cultural organization within which it is to be used. Obviously, the analysis of the features of a system is not sufficient: it is also important to understand how they are integrated to facilitate learning and training and what principles are applied to guide the way the system is used. To evaluate them both pedagogical and technological aspects must be carefully evaluated. This paper proposes a model for describing and characterizing on-line learning platform component. The model is then used to evaluate the most known existing commercial platforms.
Comparison of Learning Management System Moodle, Edmodo and Jejak Bali

E-learning, some features can be used by students and teachers from making online competency tests, student activity, learning process graphs, or value recapitulation. In this study, analyzing the LMS in the comparison of Moodle, Edmodo, and Jejak Bali so that users can compare and distinguish LMS and their respective uses. The results of this study are to provide an understanding of the differences from LMS so that the use of LMS can be maximized. As a material for consideration of the application of electronic learning that is evenly distributed in every school in Indonesia. This type of LMS is widely used by users, especially among educators, knowing the function details are expected to provide convenience in the current learning system.
Learning Management System Implementation. Case Study on User Interface Configurations

Using ICT, it is possible to build an educational process that will not only be independent of time and space, but also provide quick access to educational materials. In this case, educational material can be not only in a readable format, but also in the form of video materials. In the Kyrgyz Republic, the use of distance learning can be helpful to solve a number of problems. The focus of this study is the usability problems faced in Learning Management System, as well as to investigate factors influencing usage of the system. In the frame of the study, we have used several methods, including survey, the RAM usage analysis and loading time compression tests. Results suggested that the LMS usage could be widely adopted in the region. In addition, within the analysis of usage problems, decrease the loading time in Moodle by organizing the course resources, and hence improving the loading time and stopping users from abandoning the site was done.
Learning Management System -Moodle: Impact on Teacher Educators
Learning Management Systems (LMS) have been extensively accepted by higher education institutions universally for over a decade. Educational organisations now spend a significant proportion of their resources on installing and maintaining these systems. This expenditure continues to increase, raising questions as to whether LMS in educational organisations are fulfilling their potential. Learning Management Systems are now installed in the majority of higher education institutions. These web-based LMS are proposed to support teaching and learning activities. They consist of various features that enable teacher educators to share learning materials as well as providing interaction with their students both synchronously and asynchronously (Vovides et al. 2007). The most widely adopted LMS are Blackboard, Sakai, KEWL, and Moodle (Unwin et al. 2010). The research paper focuses on the LMS Moodle. Institutions use the LMS to supplement traditional face-to-face delivery where teacher educators develop and share digital learning materials via the Internet. In this case, the LMS are used as an electronic repositories of learning materials (Vovides et al. 2007). Institutions especially those offering distance education, have been combining LMS with traditional face-to-face delivery in order to reach more learners across various geographical boundaries (Andersson & Grönlund 2009). In light of these benefits, the adoption of LMS by higher education institutions has continued to increase in recent years. With the continued increase of LMS in recent years, this paper researches by suggesting strategies that can help teacher educators make more effective use of LMS.
